I REALLY don't understand Samsung's reasoning of going with a "square" watch with a circular face, I can see the advantage of reading area of a smart watch with a square face (screen) ... I'm sticking with 6 Classic. ;)

Tom

They did it for a bigger battery while keeping cost down. So instead of creating more cost by having to manufacture a new watch display, they keep the one they have from the classic, and put it in what's called a cushion case design. They've had this design before as well. YouTubers that called it a Apple Watch ripoff are clueless as usual. It was the orange band color that made these "pros" come to that conclusion. Simpletons.

Examples of cushion case watches.

I still prefer my Classic 6 smaller rotating bezel. Actually I wear my 5 Pro more, and will probably keep it until it dies.

I love the look of the square case round face. Probably my favorite looking smart watch. I still like the Apple software more but this is my favorite watch to wear because of the look. Its not a Rolex or anything like that but it looks less casual or sporty at a business meeting or a night out. I hope they keep this look going forward. The only thing I don't like is the orange accents like the AWU.

If I am going to wear a smart watch on Android side of things the Samsung watch 6 classic is just about perfect.

The round format is on Pixel watch as well but between the two I prefer watch 6 classic. Having a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal and large watch face is as good as it gets.

I would like to try the newest watch classic whenever it comes out.

I can get a day and half usage when fully charged which is decent. The new oneui 6 update for the watch is pretty good. Just put it on and updated it today after having it sit for a few months.

I still question the need for a smartwatch watch but one of the new faces comes with a compass which is really a nice feature to have.

I do think eventually a square screen face would be more optimal use of space but as it is now it is hard to tell I am wearing a smart watch. Having a fabric strap means no PFAS in my watch band so as an occasion user it works about as good as I can expect. With the new watch face I may be wearing it now more often.

I liked the Pixel watch 2 I had. I gave it to my son along with my Pixel 8 Pro. For now I am all in on Samsung and Apple for respective devices and Ecosystem. I like both. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I will probably get the new iPhone SE 4 or whatever it is called to have two complete ecosystems and eventually I may update may M2 MBA as my budget allows. I am very happy with my s24ultra and it looks like everyone is very happy with the new s25 series. Android on the phone and OneUI are still my favorite mobile operating systems.

I love hearing about people's experiences with the new phones and OneUI 7 and I apologize if my past posts seemed to point out any negatives. A habit I am trying to change-always pointing out flaws instead of enjoying what is new and what I already have.

I'm an old guy with over 50 years of watch buying. I love smart watch tracking my workouts, primarily elliptical and treadmill, heartrate zones, etc,. They have replaced my G-Shocks and Polar.

I've never tried the Pixel Watch, as a runner who trains and takes part in marathons, I don't want to have to worry about the battery dying. Granted marathon running is not a daily, weekly or even monthly occurrence. Also the health tracking features and the tracking of the running is not something I'm use too when it comes to the Pixel Watch. I am intrigued by it tho.

I find that outside of the Apple Watch, I have liked the design of the Galaxy Watch classic, and I do like the look of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. being able to customise the watch and receive WhatsApp notifications as well as reply to them, has been very useful.

Looking closely at my old Seamaster I'm not sure the edges are rounded enough to call it an example of "cushioned case", but Google does. :)

You mean like the never ending bigger screen smaller bezel already designed phone tail chase? :D

Tom
Phones have had a few more weapons in their arsenal to combat the very small increments in screen size by making bezels smaller

Making the GW Ultra a full square screen is more like a 50% increase in size and a considerable extra battery drain

You can see historically with AW poor battery endurance and the compromises they have had to make in the past re AOD and sleep tracking etc what a delicate balance it is on battery sizing vs screen and features :)

I take it you did not buy them from new LOL

Reminds me of my classic Cartier tank watch my son poached from me
Correct. I've always been fascinated by the complexity and build quality of analog watches.

The Wittenauer on the right came from a small North Dallas, TX mens shop in the 1980's.

The Tiffany on the left is very rare (with incredible internals!). It was a watchmaker's last piece when he retired and sold everything (~1999).

S24U, Pixel 9Pro XL and iPhone 15 Pro Max user here. Been watching lots of S25U videos on YouTube and reading along in this thread, and of course was getting the FOMO. In particular the improvements in camera and battery had me most interested.

Saw an S25U in the flesh this past weekend, and wasn't overly impressed by the sharp edges on it. Flat edges are good - better than the rounded edges of the S24U IMO, but the fact that they have left the flat edges 'sharp' is not a good thing. Of course if you put a case on there it won't be an issue, but I prefer to go caseless and just don't like the feel of it in the hand........ 'ladies'.

This weekend I had another try at the S25 series at the store. I'm very impressed with two things: how light the Ultra is and how cool and modern One UI 7 is.

Samsung and Apple should really improve their big flagships with regards to weight. Having an Ultra or Pro Max under 200g would be amazing. Anyways, I'm glad Samsung managed to make the S25 Ultra lighter this year. I hope they continue to make improvements in this aspect, as well as make the device just a little bit thinner (without sacrificing battery life, maybe with the new battery tech in chinese phones).

Then, there's One UI 7. It feels much more modern and fresh than iOS 18. I did try the iPhone 16 PM afterwards, and was underwhelmed with the software. It's just the same as 5 years ago or more, and still not as fast as Android with animations and the UI navigation is seriously lacking. They NEED something like the back button on Android.

On Android (most of them), you even have the pull down gesture to access the notifications and quick panel. This and the back button are essentials for quick every day use of the phone. Now that One UI 7 has a new modern look, it feels way better and easier to use than iOS. The level of customization is just top notch, and thankfully we now have something similar to live activities, which is an amazing iOS feature, which I loved for live sport scores.

I'm super excited to receive One UI 7 on my S24+. Shame it's taking so long. Samsung, when they want, show they have so much potential to make great hardware (foldables) and software (One UI 7). Sometimes they get lazy, just like Apple.

I really want them to push the envelope on foldables (no crease at all) and make a high end Android tablet with the iPad aspect ratio.

Oh, does anyone know if it is possible to download and install the S25 interactive wallpaper on the S24 series? There's an interactive wallpaper with the 'S'.

Hmmm I would consider exchanging it for another. Haven't seen many complaints about it and seems like the best FPS they have had on a device as far as the under display ones go. I would get annoyed with it not working consistently for sure.

Figured it out!

Recalled another similar sort of issue in the past when developer mode was enabled and I tweaked a few animation times from the default of 1s to .5s on the items below.

Window Animation Scale
Transition Animation Scale
Animator Duration Scale

Cleared cache and rebooted which didn't help so I set the above back to defaults and disabled developer mode.

All good now :)
