Just placed an order for an S7 Plus. I still think this may be overpriced and overkill for what I use my tablet for (essentially a media device), but I'm going to give it a try for a couple weeks.

Just got my S7+ today. Keyboard is backordered for a couple weeks so haven't been able to test that out or really the Dex features since a keyboard is needed. But early thoughts....

Pros
- Best display on a mobile device right now. Period.
- Speakers are great.
- Everything so far has been snappy and no lag or issue keeping things in memory.
- This is probably the best device for multimedia out there. The screen is really that good.
- Spen feels really good and latency is basically 0. I'm not one to really use the Spen that much other than for note taking on occasion but it's really good IMO.
- Hardware in general on this is best in class. Samsung have pretty much perfected mobile hardware at this point.

Cons
- Android on tablets sucks. The Fold 2 settings to "show more information" aren't on the Tab for some reason. The apps that actually support landscape are just wide stretched versions of the regular app with the exception being some Samsung and some Microsoft apps. Goodlock us able to force rotation which makes some apps at least usable, but you never get more information on landscape like you do with ipadOS. I compared a handful of apps on this and my iPad pro and the information in landscape on the ipadOS is just way way better.

The deciding factor is going to be if I can get past how bad some of the android apps are. I think once the keyboard gets here using them in Dex or multiwindow will mitigate a lot of the issues. Besides that the hardware and software is really good.

My Keyboard cover is moving through Fed Ex. FINALLY!!! ?

Nice! It will be hard for me to judge whether or not to keep the S7+ if the keyboard cover doesnt arrive in the two week return period.

Also, Im wishing they made the regular model with an amoled display. Coming from a 10.5" IPP, this 12.9" is just a little too big.

I initially thought it was too big for me as well. But I think it's cause I never had a tablet this large before. I'm acclimated to the size now. And the fact that it's super light is a huge plus.

The build quality is really amazing. Its impressive how good Samsung has gotten at hardware since the days of the plastic Galaxy phones with the little popoff back pieces.

Yeah the size is going to take some getting used to but its not unwieldy or anything, its just a little uncomfortable for couch use.

Side note, Ive never messed with Goodlock much before now but it has helped a ton at getting androids unoptimized android apps to play well with the tab in landscape.

Anybody knows when people can buy the 5G LTE version of Tab 7S+ in Canada? Just contacted Samsung and the chat agent said she has no idea if it will ever be sold in Canada. I don't want to buy the top of the line model now and later they release the LTE version. However, I also cannot wait for them forever as my iPad Pro has several issues. They are making it difficult for people to buy their product.

@hajime you'd be taking a step back by waiting for the 5G version, the version available in the US is only the 128 GB version with 6 GB of RAM.

Thanks for the warning.

I just checked my iPP. It has 256GB but after using it for about 3 years, only 40GB are used. Not sure how much RAM it has. Why people need more than 128GB on their iPad? I can understand the need for more storage on the phone because people are using it to take photos and videos.

By the same token, I find it hard to understand someone who would buy an iPad and skimp with a 64gb model.

These kind of tablets are great for viewing/editing pics and lots of us have large photo libraries. Plus they're great travel devices and with a film easily being 3gb or more, doesn't take long to fill.

Yeah stuck with 6GB here and 128GB only

I wonder why the tab S7/S7+ are limited to only 6GB and 8GB while phones have 12GB? Is it due to the post processing of the cameras?

I'm sure I can get by with 128GB on my iPad, but having the 256GB model.. it gives me more freedom with adding movies/tv shows. Then there's gaming.. which I don't do much of, but it's nice to have when my family wanna hook up the Xbox Controller to game on. As of now... I have 8GB of storage left over. But I plan on doing some deleting of tv shows I've watched.

I have a 512GB SD card (Samsung EVO Plus for 85€) in my Galaxy Tab S5e and I have 2 reasons for it. a) so it fits my full Apple Music library which currently stands at 90GB, and, b) because if I go on a trip (ok, not so much right now during this COVID-19 thing going on), business or other, I can download content to it like crazy from Netflix, Disney+ or wherever and then I'm completely independent of an internet connection. I'm not watching any of that content on my phone if I have a tablet.

When I buy a new tablet I'll just take it out and stick it in the new one.

If we have NAS at home, do we need that much storage on a tablet? I don't do photo nor video editing on tablet.

Finally got the keyboard cover. The keys feel really good. The touchpad is just decent and I like the size of it. Love the back cover. Using this with DEX, and I forget I'm on a tablet. It's useable on your lap, but a little flimsy at the keyboard hinge. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing yet, cause I wouldn't like it too stiff eithier. Using the backcover fold out stand is very solid, even on soft surfaces like a bed.

My free book cover finally arrived from samsung today
I'm surprised at how much I like mine. Maybe because of the "internal" S-Pen storage nook? Oddly enough, I was ripping on 3rd-party cover manufacturers for including exactly that, but the way it is implemented on those was not something I wanted (extra plastic below the screen to make a space for the S-Pen to be stored) in comparison to the way the Samsung cover is designed.

I got a 3rd-party cover that doesn't have that, requiring that the S-Pen be stored on the back of the device and subject to loss, it's sitting on the other end of the sofa even though it provides more protection for the sides of the device than the Samsung cover.

Can we use xterm or some app for remote login under DEX?

Mine might be going back. I don't know if it's tech this year that's underwhelming or if I've become really picky, but I just can't get past the quality of Android apps on my S7 plus. The screen and performance are awesome. The pen is also great although I haven't used it much. But a lot of apps I use a lot are just bad. Good lock makes them usable, but still not good. I use Teams a lot of work and it's crap on the Tab S7.

I might just be resigned to updating my 10.5 ipad pro with another ipad. Maybe I'll wait until 2021 when the mini led ipad pros come out.

If apps is a big deal that's really only one tablet that's worth it.. Ipad is king

Yup! I've seen plenty of reviews praising the Tab S7+... especially the Dex aspect of it. But when it all comes down to it.. the apps is what makes a product worth it. And that's the Achilles Heel with Android.. not enough tablet apps!

And I'm kind of concern with the Surface Duo...cause I don't see too many developers anxious to build for that device. There's already an issue with developers not building for tablets...now Microsoft is asking for devs to build for a device that can allow the user to handle two screens, idk.

My hope was that Dex and Goodlock would be enough to get around it. And they do a good job, but it's still lacking behind the iPad in terms of app quality by a good amount. And I think that's the breaking point for me despite how good the hardware is.
