I'm not sure if this applies to the Fold 2 but this article says you no longer can add on Care+ after purchase for the Note series... so you may want to find out if that's the case for the Fold 2 or not.

With regards to carrier insurance, I've heard nothing but horror stories on carrier insurance replacement phones (typically through Assurion). Plus the cost is high... high monthly premium plus a very large deductible. Better off just putting some of that money into a savings account in the off chance something happens to your device.

Don't forget many credit/debit cards have their own insurance as well.

For those of you balking at the price, am I the only one most likely selling a tablet because I won't need it anymore? I have my surface pro which I will always keep, it's much larger, has the kickstand and windows so I don't think I ever will be without a windows tablet. But my "small" go to tablet, my ipad mini 5, will most likely be sold or given to another family member as they are almost the same size screen so why bother? I was also patiently waiting for the ipad mini 6 which rumor says will be physically smaller, but now I don't really care about it.

Actually the Fold 2 is much smaller physically when open but still has almost the same size screen. I carry the ipad mini around with me a lot, it does fit into a back pocket but it's still nowhere near as portable as a smartphone like the Fold 2. For reference the picture is a Fold 1, the Fold 2 has an even larger screen.

Did a deep dive online. It looks like you cannot add Samsung Care+ anymore post-purchase. Regardless of the current terms online.

What a joke honestly. Why not reflect this change on your website???

I guess I'll determine my 3rd party insurance options if I decide to keep the Fold 2.

Has anyone asked if you can add it before receiving it? I'm tempted to call Samsung but am too lazy to wait on hold to find out.

I called Samsung and could not get anyone on the phone that could answer my question. I kept being transferred and then I finally gave up. But I felt I got enough confirmation from my online research.

I doubt you can do it before receiving it.

This really reflects poorly on Samsung.

What a world of difference where Apple went the opposite direction and extended the time to add Applecare to a year! That's one of my huge concerns, having to deal with Samsung support. My last foray into Samsung support was being on hold for a long time and outsources reps with very heavy accents that had difficulty understanding what I needed. That was a few years ago so I was hoping it had improved. They really should just turn their experience centers in Best Buy into warranty centers.

FYI I've been on "hold" with Samsung chat for about an hour now, it won't connect. I did chat because they said phone support was backed up. At this point I'm starting to think dealing with US carriers warranty might actually not be that bad.

I tried chat. The guy was worthless. Literally copy and pasted TOS from the site.

Yup I agree. Apple is going in the opposite direction with AC+.

I’ve read about so many bad experiences with Samsung’s customer support that it makes me really hesitant to ever want to own one of their phones.

I’ve contemplated pulling the trigger on a Fold 2 cause I genuinely want to check it out but I already know I wouldn’t be keeping it so what’s the point?

Also Samsung’s practice of continually fragmenting the colors based on region and different storage sizes for different regions is quite annoying.

I know  isn’t perfect but I’m glad Steve Jobs put his foot down with the carriers and everyone in the world gets access to the same iPhones (ok with the exception of China where they got the physical dual sim)

I have a 40" Samsung TV in my kitchen. The panel had issues after a month of owning it, so I called them. They wanted me to take the TV to a service center about 45 mins from my house for them to fix it. They said they don't do house calls for TV's smaller than 49". I was respectful but firm and pushed back saying look I'm not going to unplug my TV and transport it to your service center and risk breaking it. They relented and someone came and replaced the panel.

As for the Fold, this is one of the many reasons I don't want to leave the iPhone. I can go to my local Apple store and get great immediate service. With any other smartphone I will need to contact the OEM by phone or a 3rd party company and mail them my device. Truly less than ideal. But Apple isn't making a folding iPhone anytime soon, so here we are.

I used an iPad Mini (OG) and then an iPad Mini 4 for many years. I eventually moved onto a larger iPad Pro for the quad speakers and larger screen for magazines, but I absolutely loved that 7.9" screen for several years. The idea of having close to that in my pocket at all times (with far less bezel) is extremely exciting.

I might get heat for this bit 2k for a phone and tablet is a fair price....now if it stays at 2k with a pen support and periscope lens I'm all in and I won't be able to go back to a normal phone as once you get used to that bigger display thats it

I think the price is definitely fair considering the engineering, tech, and quality of qhat you get. However, that doesnt change that 2k is a lot of money.

$2k, for what you're getting (a true 2-in-1), is not as bad as some would make it seem. I actually think there is a massive amount of casual users who have both a phone and tablet, but think this single device (that can do both) is outrageously priced. Not to mention the accessories they have purchased for both phone and case. Thinking out loud, an iPhone 11 Pro Max (for comparable phone/cover display size) and iPad Mini (for comparable tablet/unfolded size) would retail at nearly $1,600. Trade in and/or sell of an existing phone or tablet could nearly knock the price of this down to that range.

However, this is an expensive device no matter how you slice it, and it does still have some unanswered durability questions even if it looks like they have improved on everything from the first generation.

You guys not worried about easily scratching the inside screen since it's mainly made of plastic?

That's really the only concern I'd have about jumping in on this generation. The first generation obviously had a ton of other drawbacks, but the only question for me on this one is the durability of the inner display. I don't see this type of device as a yearly upgrade like I do the standard phone, so I'm going to wait out one more generation and see how this one holds up long-term, and HOPEFULLY I'll feel confident enough to jump on the Fold 3 because by then I'll be more than chomping at the bit to do so.

I have the Fold 2 and the Tab S7+ on the way to me. But I'm still keeping my iPad Mini 5. It's way too good of a tablet to get it's worth selling it, it's rugged enough to not baby it, has pencil support, and if I give it to a family member they will probably rarely use it.

I have a love-hate relationship with my ipad mini 5. I'm so used to Windows and the massive flexibility/power it offers on tablets that whenever I use the iPad I just get frustrated, plus the lack of a kickstand really really detracts from it being a good tablet. Don't get me started on the atrocious memory management and issues with apps being closed/backgrounded. But it's really the only game in town for something that actually fits into my pocket so I put up with it's glaring inadequacies. The good thing about Samsung is they work hard to add many extras over Android, and that's true of its tablets as well. The Fold 2 is only really missing pen support, which hopefully will come next year.

The only way I see S-pen support coming to the Fold any time soon depends on Samsung's ability to significantly boost the durability of the interior display. There's no way they're going to want to encourage you to have anything remotely pointy on that display. The Fold 3 will need some hefty changes to the "glass". Although yes, S-pen support would be a perfect match for the Fold.

I agree with you. The Galaxy Fold is like having an iPad mini that can be folded in half, and becomes a phone. The only thing Samsung needs to do is add S-pen support.

There were rumours that the z fold 2 was going to get s pen support this generation thats why i think they mentioned it in the original samsung unpacked event in august. So i wouldn't be surprised to see it added next year.

Thats the only thing thats holding me back from buying it along with the fact that samsung phones don't retain as much value as iphone. Last years fold is worth 450 and abit more from samsung though while my xs max is worth slightly more and its 2 years old.

I think it's because it's probably rare for one to end up paying the full MSRP for a Samsung phone. Samsung is really aggressive in their promos. You will see discounts mere months after a new phone is launched.

I had said the same thing earlier in this thread. Unless Samsung decides to implement a very different type of soft tip stylus, I wouldn’t put an S-Pen anywhere near a screen of the type inside the Fold.

Of course it's interesting to note that the first Galaxy Fold is cheaper, and comes with more accessories like case and buds. The Fold 2 is more expensive, but lacks any accessories outside the charger and cable.

Sometimes it's annoying to see the most premium product being cheapened out of basic accessories.

Don't forget many credit/debit cards have their own insurance as well.

yep. we personally use the protection plan built in to our WellsFargo credit card. Just pay your cell bill via the WF card and they cover 2 fixes from accidents per year (up to $600) with a $25 deductible. I've actually used it twice in the past 4 years due to replacing the cracked screen on my wife's phones. it works well! https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/features/cell-phone-protection/
