Man this is going to be a long two weeks to wait for our orders.

I really wish there was a waterproof case for this thing. I frequent the beach a lot. Otherwise I’ll have to use one of those waterproof pouches.

? Does anyone recall price drops for the Fold 1 since launch?

I don’t recall promos for the original Fold but there was also a limited supply of phones available. That might change this go around but I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting on it.

Wow, that battery life actually is pretty impressive, and his test was indicative of real world use. Also noticing from his video that the Sammy cameras are very close in comparison to the Pixel quality. They did great on this one, pending long-term durability.

One thing that I caught from his video, and that drives me particularly crazy on tablets, is fingerprints on the larger, inner screen. How would one clean that screen well without the risk of scratching the display?

I called Samsung and could not get anyone on the phone that could answer my question. I kept being transferred and then I finally gave up. But I felt I got enough confirmation from my online research.

I doubt you can do it before receiving it.

This really reflects poorly on Samsung.

FYI I had a conversation with a chat rep who said I had 60 days after getting the phone (technically after activating it) to add Samsung care. They directed me towards this: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/...obile devices can,via the Samsung Members app.

I will probably carry around one of those soft wipes like the ones that came with my sunglasses, but yeah this might be an issue. I got the mystic black one so I know the outside is going to be nasty, I'll probably get a Dbrand cover for it. I just don't understand why anyone makes glossy phones these days? I'm going to highly miss the matte white of my 11 pro max.

The only way I see S-pen support coming to the Fold any time soon depends on Samsung's ability to significantly boost the durability of the interior display. There's no way they're going to want to encourage you to have anything remotely pointy on that display. The Fold 3 will need some hefty changes to the "glass". Although yes, S-pen support would be a perfect match for the Fold.

Definitely agree. But I wouldn't count Samsung out, really if you look at just the concept of foldable screens they have to be commended for actually having it implemented in a mass market consumer phone. So maybe not next year, but I bet by version 4 they will have this solved. I think I read somewhere that Gorilla Glass had something foldable in the works as well. Foldable screens are the future, they are the next big thing that will drive the market and a lot of R&D is going towards them.

I wouldn’t trust the chat rep. The Android Police article said otherwise for the Note. I will call them at some point and get a proper answer.

Yeah I don't trust any chat rep lol, but they do have the policy in that link spelled out on their website. The chat rep didn't hesitate with the information or have to ask someone else either. Do you have the link to the Android Police article? I don't want to say they are wrong before actually reading the article, but I think they are wrong unless the Fold 2 simply isn't an eligible device, which may be the case.

Honestly, I've been using the Note20, and I think Samsung has caught up in camera quality to Apple and Google in every way. EVEN pushing Apple on video quality. Its splitting hairs at this point.

I don't get the point about how this is a phone and iPad replacement in terms of price. I mean, if all you use an iPad for is bigger screen browsing and content viewing then yep, absolutely.

But those who use an iPad or tablet for note taking, or rely on a specific iPad app then this isn't going to cut it.

For instance, I have just started my own business and use Over in iPad to do all of my marketing leaflets and it's brilliant. I don't think you could get something similar on Android as I had a look to see of I could do it on my phone and there was just nothing of that quality.

Having said that, for media consumption and to use Xbox Game Pass, the Fold 2 looks like it would be amazing so there are definite benefits. But I don't think it's a tablet replacement for some iPad users and their use cases.

I don't think anyone is saying it's a replacement for an iphone and a pen enabled tablet. At this point we all know the Fold 2 doesn't support pen input and if you need that then you need a separate tablet.

I have no plans to replace my iPad Pro with the Fold 2. The iPad Pro has quad speakers and a screen that is the ideal size for magazines. Plus it’s superior for watching movies during travel compared to the Fold. Instead I’m hoping the Fold can be like having an iPad Mini in my front pocket.

A lot of people have said that, including myself, I'll be selling my ipad mini 5. But I don't need pen support on it, if you need pen support then you are going to want to keep it. But I am keeping my surface pro, partly due to the pen input but also the larger screen, superior OS and kickstand.

I think I've read a lot of people say it will replace a phone and tablet.
It will for a lot of tablet users. Most tablet users, think general consumer, aren't using a tablet as a replacement for their computer. Most are using it as just a bigger version of their phone, or striclty as a more comfortable media consumption device. This will be a replacement for them. For the "power user" (I hate that term), it will not replace what they can do from a productivity standpoint, especially if you use a keyboard/mouse combo. That's not its intent though.

No I wasn't really saying that. I also don't think that most tablet users are using them as replacement laptops. I was merely saying I can't see this device replacing a tablet and a phone as a justification for the cost. For me it's still very niche and it's more the fact that it's an Android tablet experience that would prevent people replacing iPads with it.

Unless of course, as I already stated, it's just to browse the web on a bigger screen, consume media and game etc.

My only concern for that is the wording of "eligible device", but then again you can buy Samsung care for it at checkout so obviously it's an eligible device. I'm pretty confident you can add on Samsung care by 60 days, but I guess will find out after I receive my phone.

Well I think you are more specifically saying you don't see ipad users replacing their tablets with an android tablet? Well yeah that can be an issue, I don't think anyone is arguing that point at all, everyone's needs will be different. My use for my ipad is exactly how Cryates describes it, basically the ipad for me is just a dumb tablet, a really large iphone. But in your case you need specific iOS apps and the pen input, so this won't work for you.

But I do think there is a case for more complex use (ignoring lack of pen input for a second). I'm sure most apps on iOS can be found on Android, and Samsung always works very hard to give its tablet OS much more functionality than typical Android tablets. In some ways the Fold 2 supersedes iOS though, for example wireless Dex sounds really powerful and useful to me.

But do I think the majority of iPad users are going to rush out, sell their iPads and buy a Fold 2? Hell no, this is such a niche market and we are only at the very very beginning stages of a paradigm shift. Whether it's worth the price of a phone AND a tablet is very individual at this point, but IMO in a few years it's going to be a no brainer, but by then Apple will have its own foldable phone on the market.

The majority of iPhone/iPad users are too busy idiotically laughing at it because it's a Samsung device, so they aren't thinking about actually buying this anyhow.
