Is the outer screen that bad to use? How is it bad? I'm trying to wrap my head around this. The impression I got was what spinedoc77 mentioned below, It's close to the size of many non plus sized phones.
Lastly, I'm not sure why there is so much negativity around the outer screen, it's perfectly usable. It's a 120hz screen, it's as big as many non pro/max phones currently out, and really is not that much worse than even a pro/max model. I used my outer screen much much more than the inner screen the year or so I had the Fold 2 and rarely found myself complaining, but most of that was probably due to the constant dopamine rush I got when I opened that huge inner screen. What many are missing here is that NOT having a tablet in your phone is also a disadvantage to some of us.

Oh, I totally understand your point. I‘m sure if you polled Fold users… majority will most certainly favor the inner display over the outer display. But my push back on your point… is that you have that option to unfold. Whether or not you use the inner display more than the outer display.. if it’s 60/40. That 40% of the time… that’s an experience no standard phone can replicate.

What I’m getting at is… there’s more to the Fold than AOD and brightness set to 100%. I totally understand why disable features only to have an average device. A consumer wants to enjoy their device to it’s full capabilities. But I’ve been a Fold user for about a year.

And battery has always been the annoying part of the experience… that’s why I try to manage it as best as I can. It’s one of those things where… gotta take the good with the bad. And I believe the good outweighs the bad as long as I can manage the bad, it works for me.

Well, I also favor the inner display, but do to the size of the Fold when unfolded its not always possible. When unfolded, its definitely a 2 hand device. I have big hands, I can manage my S21 Ultra one handed in just about every situation. So, if you have you're doing any activity that requires you to have a hand free, then you have to use the outer display. That was my point. That I couldnt use the inner display as much as I would have liked. It just naturally didnt make sense.

Is it terrible? No not at all.

Is it worse than using a regular slab phone? Yes, easily due to how narrow it is. But the whole point of the outer screen is to be passable in times when you cant unfold. It accomplishes that IMO.

I’m am sooo tempted by the Fold/Flip. Haven’t felt this way in a long time about a phone.

Seems like there is no privacy anymore with either android or apple. Might as as well go with the cooler tech.
Exactly.
The only reason I used iPhones as my main phone all these years was privacy.I used few Galaxy Notes as well.
In terms of tech iPhone’s were always behind.
Now we will get least amount of privacy with iOS 15 and most aggressive intrusive form of privacy breach.
the Z Fold 3 is cutting edge technology and very exciting.
That being said I REALLY wish it had built-in S-Pen and cameras on par with S-21 Ultra.

Depending on how you use it. One handed, still my personal opinion, it's actually easier to use than a typical *larger* slab phone. I still opine it has about the same difficulty as any other phone of similar width for 2 hand use.

To be fair, thats not enough time to judge battery life. Usage pattern learning hasnt even taken effect. Thats made a big difference in the past on my devices.

But it also sounds like you may have a rogue app draining battery. I would look at battery stats and see if something stands out.
Possibly. However, generally speaking, charging to 100% and using the device as normal is a solid indicator for me whether the battery will be good or not. 3 hours of usage is terrible. I don't have that problem with my Pixel or any previous iPhones. Just browsing here and YouTube seems to suggest the same. I believe it could get better–not 3 to 4 more hours of usage better though.

Also, usage patterns just kicked in this morning. It used to say learning habits. Now it provides figures. Popped my sim in this morning and would say I'm getting maybe another 30mins to an hour out of it. Still not satisfied. In the end, the phone just may not be for me. I'm ok with that.

That's fine, but when you're the outlier it's worth looking if there's a rogue app. Your SOT is not normal from what I've read and experienced. If the phone just isn't for you then that's fine. But if battery life is the only reason, it's probably worth looking into.

Those are my 2 areas of main concern. Non flagship cameras and no silo for s pen. Maybe next year.

Once again apps look terrible, blown up mobile apps, not showing much information.

Google will never get this right, shows developers don’t care about android tablets, don’t blame him for returning it, better off using your mobile phone. 🤦‍♂️

Stay in your iOS 15 forum and continue to complain about the green tint issues you’re having. Hopefully Apple gets it right for you.

Was fixed ages ago, maybe one day developers in the android world will take tablets seriously. ?‍♂️

I don't have any issues with how 98% of my apps are displayed on the folding display. Sure, certain apps like Facebook, Instagram, and a few others might be the odd ball out. But I don't use Facebook at all, and Instagram is more than good enough after I set it to full display. 98% of my apps do not look stretched out of distorted in anyway. Many 3rd party apps look even better, to the point I can't tell if they are optimized of not.

The pros of the Fold 3 highly outweigh the cons.

Great video, in particular I found him spot on with his complaints of a lack of a pen silo. I never found much issue with the apps I was using on my Fold 2, maybe I just got lucky. But I don't disagree, Google continues to show a complete lack of direction with tablet use. I find it interesting there are rumors of a Google Fold device, I wonder if Samsung is going to save them (like they did with Wear OS) and maybe OneUI will become stock Google. Yeah it's far fetched, but I would not be surprised if there won't be some sort of partnership with Google and Samsung when they release their foldable.

The outer screen is fine. At first, the only downside was typing on it due to it being slightly narrow. But over time, and with the help of SwiftKey, it is no problem at all. The front screen is totally fine for emails, texts, WhatsApp, and web browsing too. YouTube videos on portrait aren't very good but that's what the big screen is for. I've adjusted completely to the outer screen and am still mightily impressed by the device overall.

I really don't get the app issue, you can view Instagram full screen easily. You can change it to full screen for any app.

You can also change dpi settings under Developer options. Plus Instagram is a really a bad example that too many reviewers use, cause there is simply no tablet app for it on any platform. And it looks worse on iPad, with no ability to make it full screen or change dpi.

Agreed, is awful on the iPad.
