You can also change dpi settings under Developer options. Plus Instagram is a really a bad example that too many reviewers use, cause there is simply no tablet app for it on any platform. And it looks worse on iPad, with no ability to make it full screen or change dpi.

^^^^THIS

This is like everywhere oh Instragram..pick a legit app …full screen it and move on …

Sadly I returned my fold 3 and Samsung watch4 I’m going to wait until I see what apple and google offer up
I am 99% sure I will be returning the Fold3. It is super nice, but takes so much getting used to. But I really love the watch 4 and might keep that and use with my S21U, since I wont be sending that back now for trade in $.

I don't have any issues with how 98% of my apps are displayed on the folding display. Sure, certain apps like Facebook, Instagram, and a few others might be the odd ball out. But I don't use Facebook at all, and Instagram is more than good enough after I set it to full display. 98% of my apps do not look stretched out of distorted in anyway. Many 3rd party apps look even better, to the point I can't tell if they are optimized of not.

The pros of the Fold 3 highly outweigh the cons.
there a menu where you can specify to have certain apps to fill the screen

I have used Samsung galaxy phones on and off over the years and this by far is the most inovative smart phone I've ever used. The FOLD 3 is just ticking all the right boxes. Being able to play a mobile rpg and surf the web at the same time is just *chefs kiss*. I've been able to read manga and comics more comfortably compared to my iPad 12.9 pro or iPad mini. Then the icing on the cake is the spen capabilities. I thought the crease would effect my drawing but I'm shocked at how it has little effect on line drawings. The only fault I've come across is tilt for shading. I can't wait to see how Samsung improves on future iterations every year.

The Fold even as just a tablet does have a couple of notable advantages over the iPad Mini, even if the latter has more apps specifically tuned for it: AMOLED, and a much more intuitive multitasking mode. Both of which I sorely miss on the Mini, and none of which will be remedied with the version supposedly coming this fall. It also has a smaller pen which is great, just too bad there’s no silo for it because that would just have been so damn nifty.

I hope I get to play around with one soon. Buying it wouldn’t be an option for me sadly because of the price. It’s kind of frustrating though because I really want it as a tablet, but I could actually do without the folding and phone part.

We’ll see what happens if I do get to test it soon…knowing myself, even a price tag like that starts to look acceptable with monthly installments :p

I’d buy one if it had :

- dual sim ( or esim ) support
- S21U caliber camera(s)
- built in S-Pen

For me, it’s still not quite there…

Some of the points here I think are valid and why I think the fold might not be for everybody. The content viewing should be far better than a normal phone but the optimisation on some of the apps are just not there and due to how developers are not sure it will ever be perfect. This is why I think my next fold will be the iPhone version if we ever get one. As app wise it will be perfectly optimised for the screen size when opened up.

That said this Is still great tech and I enjoy to see more people buying them and using them. I like the fact samsung are improving areas step by step. Having an ip rating is a massive step forward which many thought couldn’t be done this early.

Haven't watched the vid... but I think Samsung tries to do their best to combat poorly optimized apps and Google has been somewhat absent in encouraging tablet UI optimization. And I believe someone mention earlier that Instagram doesn't even have an optimized iPad app.

And it took Apple up until iPadOS 15 to give us a landscape view of iPhone apps.. instead of having portrait view for years. I think there's pros and cons on both platforms in regards to app optimization and I haven't had any issues with app optimization. Primarily, because of the workarounds Samsung provides in GoodLock to help..but I think you look toward the iPhone version due to the ecosystem where you most reside at. For which is nothing wrong with that.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the 3rd party app support for tablets and foldable on Android will make a huge leap forward when Google makes it easier and pushes developers to to do. And if the Pixel Fold is actually releasing within the next year, that's when I think that will start to happen. Samsung has actually done a very good job for forcing apps to use the screen size by using Goodlock/Labs. But unfortunately, a stretched out version of an app is not the same as one built specifically with a layout and features for a larger screen device.

If Samsung Foldables keep selling better and better and Google also adopts the form factor, it's a matter of time before devs start playing ball.

Agreed. And they could support this by releasing a simple tablet too. I'm definitely in the market for a small AMOLED tablet to buy instead of the new iPad Mini which seemingly will have another IPS display.

Agree, even apps that support full screen mode, still look like terrible blown up mobile apps, even internet browsing looks better on iPhone for some reason, google and Samsung really need to pay more attention to detail, great hardware let down by poor software

This issue is on Samsung I agree they are doing great things to work around this it remains a google issue. Developers need to make the effort to change things. Maybe when google brings their fold out or as it gets more popular it will be pushed harder

Tbh, I think it is what it is. As much Samsung is marketing these Folds heavily, popularity is at a good spot. And right now, the realistic drawbacks are... its expensive and bulky compared to a standard phone. If we are judging whether the average consumer will pick it up... those two factors will lead them to another direction.

Google really needs to step up. Samsung should not have to keep making work arounds for android; otherwise sell the entire android division to Samsung who seems to be the only company that tries to innovate etc with phone technology currently. Android would go much further if Samsung was able to completely take over it because Google seems lazy with android development.

P.S. Glad some are returning the Folds, the device sells will be pretty low and can ensure I see a new NOTE Ultra next year.

Some are returning them, but judging from reddit thread… seems majority is quite pleased with the experience. And to Google defense, they went to Samsung years back in effort to tone down on skinning Android. As much as I like OneUI now… I had different thoughts back then.

As much as we want to put blame on Google, developers have to take part in the blame as well.. a lot of copy cat apps plague the Google Play Store. And it doesn’t help that building for Android isn’t as financial viable compared to iOS.
