I don't understand how the market continues to sell so many 27" monitors. I upgraded to 32" a few years ago, and I will never look back. The ACD 30" was the big thing in 2011, and let's face it, 4K and 5K really shines at 30"+
Because at my age I just don't get more than 27" in focus at a time - and that's with prescription glasses that are made for computer work. Larger screens are blurry at the left and right edges, which IMHO is more annoying than don't having that screen real estate at all.

None of us can see the future (I know, that's a very rare statement on this site), but I assume the current price is to get maximum profits and ROI on the design and engineering of this monitor from the early adopters who are willing to pay full price, and then prices will drop before too long. I expect there will be sales, especially around Black Friday, that see a big discount. A significantly lower price is the only way this can compete with the ASD.
Agreed on all points. Of course the ASD is routinely discounted as well - more so it seems than many other Apple products.

They definitely do delete any post that is critical of the front page articles, regardless of containing abrasive insults or not.

The math is simple:

Best size for 4K resolution at 200% scaling: 24 inch
Best size for 5K resolution at 200% scaling: 24/4*5 = 30 inch

Any manufacture first comes out with 5K 30'' gets my money.
Did I miss the math in that first conclusion? Where does the "200%" factor into the math? What if I want 150% scaling how do I do the "simple math"?

Don’t really understand why so many people seem to be upset/defensive over this new screen? And to compare the price to the standard studio display is imo not completely fair. It’s more reasonable to compare it to the studio display with tilt and height adjustable stand and nano texture finish. The price difference is then also greater. Regardless I’m super excited for the reviews and comparisons!

The thing that has always ruled out the Studio Display for me is the lack of multiple inputs (as I use one monitor for both a work and home machine), so the Samsung at least avoids that veto. At that price it's not enough to tempt me though.

I am really not so sure we will get big discounts on this model in the near future - it's a pretty niche monitor with an unusual panel, so I bet Samsung don't make all that many.

I don’t think I could go back to 27”

What I’d really like is a 32” 5k without any extra “features” like camera, usb hub, speakers, microphones, etc with a mediocre to decent panel at a consumer price

That is my impossible dream
Yeah, I'd like a large high-dpi/Retina screen, but am not too picky about image quality. I got 24" 4k IPS monitors for $200 each several years ago. They may not be high contrast, or have high color accuracy or a large gamut. But I don't need super high quality for excel or PDFs. Maybe a 5K monitor in the $500 to $600 range...

I went into a Best Buy recently, and most of the monitors available for sale had fewer pixels than my phone. I want more pixels!

I get it, but the stand doesnt make the actual "screen" better. And as we have discussed before, once you get a screen where you want it... how often does it get moved after? I dont think Ive touched mine in... years?

IHMO, the *primary* person the ASD marketed to is former 27" iMac users. Which had the same semi-gloss screen.

I hooked my Studio Display to my PC which runs Windows, using a DisplayPort <-> USB-C 8k cable and it works perfectly for me. So I am not really sure what you are talking about, perhaps the problem in this situation is the lack of technical knowledge from the user and not the product itself.
Ok now hook another computer to it at the same time and switch between them and have a single keyboard/mouse be routed to the right computer based on the input.......

That can only be done by buying a KVM switch, if you can even find one that does USB-C (Thunderbolt).

Not saying that you are wrong. Haven’t moved mine either. However my point still stands since Apple charges a premium for the ability to adjust height etc.

For me personally I just wish the ASD had AirPlay support at least. Not sure if it’s possible to AirPlay from my phone though when my Mac is connected to the screen and do it that way.

My biggest complaint against Apple monitors is that they do truly suck if you want to hook them to anything but Apple computers. They are a waste of a purchase for those with multiple computers.
Why? Does it do something different or special if connected to a mac vs pc?

Why? Does it do something different or special if connected to a mac vs pc?
Apple monitors have no external controls; that makes it difficult to control with a PC. But it is mostly because I have multiple computers that I want to hook to my monitors(s) and my main Dell 38" Ultrawide has built in USB routing so it works very well with both the Mac and PC hooked up. Keyboard and mouse are both connected to the monitor and when I switch inputs the USB is routed to the correct computer.

Now if lazy Apple would update the AMD drivers so I could get a W7000 series GPU then I could upgrade my main monitor to something higher res; like a 40" 7680x (3200 or 2160); higher refresh rate would be nice also.

Why would anyone expect any corporation to freely give away an opportunity to make more money?

Samsung, Dell, NVidia, et. al. envy Apple's ability to charge premiums and make money! They're attempting to build ecosystems so they can engage in similar activities.

The price of the Samsung monitor will go down only if market forces pressure them to reduce costs.
I guess what I'm describing is market pressure? I would think they could sell more units by undercutting Apple's price, rather than price it exactly the same to compete on features. Even if they priced it at $1499 it would still be a super-premium pricing model but, for me, would make the choice between this and the Apple Studio Display much easier. I know that my personal experience != everyone's, but I waited for this for a while, and if it was less expensive, I would have bought one. Instead, I'll pick up a Studio Display, losing Samsung the sale.

Not everyone has a desk or large enough space needed for such a large display.

Any other Viewfinity S9 owners having issues connecting to inputs on occasion? The reason I got this over a Studio Display was to have multiple inputs, an Intel Mac and an Apple Silicon one. And while it does switch between the two computers, I've noticed on the Intel Mac it often times will not connect properly during boot. Have to restart a few times and then out of nowhere it randomly connects.

Tried both mini displayport to Displayport as well as a direct Thunderbolt connection. Only had it for a few days so still testing but wondering if this is a common issue w/ others. I know the Samsung website says they only support Apple Silicon but clearly it (sometimes) works as I'm typing this on the Intel Mac. Running the latest firmware on the monitor as well as macOS.

Through Workplace Savings in the Samsung store, the Viewfinity S9 is currently available for 20% off, which is $1,279.99. Check the Samsung website for a discount program for which you qualify.

Does the Viewfinity S9 support DCC/CCI over Thunderbolt? If I was to buy one I'd want to be able to control brightness using something like Lunar or MonitorControl.

Nice comparison video of the ViewFinity S9 vs Apple Studio Display:

thank you.

As I had written in other comments, there was the possibility that the S9 was made of plastic and in fact everything is made of plastic except the bottom stand.
It's not smooth to move.
External power supply, external webcam, bad speakers, bad webcam, bad microphone, cheap plastic everywhere.
Commercial suicide if it is sold at the same price as the studio display, as it is sold in Europe.
A good price is $999.
IMHO
