We have had this discussion as well before. 21" Sony GDM FW500 from 15-20 years ago, one of the top monitors, was over $1200. my 24" Sony GDM900 was near $1500.I remember when a good monitor became affordable. Or at least reasonable. This still seem too high. I don't argue the price professionally, but when compared to where monitors were 15 years ago on price, I don't think the tech has increased in price so much as they realized what the market was willing to pay.

Sony GDM-C520K review: Sony GDM-C520K
Graphic designers and photographers will find this high-performance CRT worth every penny.

Its about the PPI. the "5K" widescreens are really just two 2K screens combined. Not even two 4K screens.Yes, it's 5120 x 2160 instead of 5120 x 2880. However, my 20:20 eyes- long-term accustomed to Apple 5K in iMacs- see no difference at all in the quality of the image: there's just more of it. Are there technical differences? Yes. If we get wound up enough about the technical differences, we narrow our pool of choices to as little as a single choice. That's a very popular game around here.
But I totally get the widescreen for video. I did play with the Dell 34" widescreen for a moment, just didnt work.
My next screen, once my 2020 iMac gets useless and Im forced to upgrade to an apple studio, or i get FOMO, will be the Dell 32" 6K. Hopin it drops to below 2K.
