Hello again Synchro,

More info: I just plugged the new revision in again. This time into slot 4 and this time it negotiated a 5GT/s link speed, but the protocol still showed under storage as SATA. It tests now slightly faster than my first revision. I don't get the SATA/PCI protocol difference bit? **Actually, I just plugged the old one in and it shows as SATA under storage as well.

Every seller I've ever communicated with on Ebay have told me there is no difference between any of these revisions of 1tb blades. Our testing here seems to suggest otherwise. If you are going to spend ~$700 on one of these I think it matters if you are going to get ~950MB/s or +1300MB/s.
 
So it is a bit faster than the MZ-KPV1T00/0A2. 1400 MB/sWrite and 1500 MB/s Read.

I think only in Yosemite it is listed as 'Generic SATA Express Controller', in older OS it's always listed as 'AHCI Controller'.

I'm in the market for one of these but all I can find on eBay are the Samsung MZ-KPU1TOT/OA6. I'd buy yours and/or appreciate any tips on how to find the one you got.

Grrrrr.... I just got my MZ-KPU1TOT/0A6 and I was thinking about buying the MZ-KPV1T0R/0A2 but there wasn't enough data on it. I should have looked at the controller part number

I guess I will need to order another 1TB from eBay.
 
Oh jeez. I buy a 2009 Mac Pro for $475 and now I'm on the upgrade trail. Already did the airport upgrade and a CPU upgrade (under $200 invested there, all told), added and flashed my own Radeon 7950, and now I just took the plunge on this adapter card. Once the adapter gets here, I'll be buying a MZ-JPU512T/0A6, which seems to be around $400. After everything I'll have like $1000 invested in this box. It better not get dropped by OS X 10.11 or I'm gonna be pissed. :eek:

Fortunately I was able to get a decent amount back on selling my Hackintosh PC, or else I'd be going to the poor house. :D :cool:

Looking forward to the crazy storage speeds, though. My Toshiba Q Series Pro is held back by SATA2, and buying a SATA3 card with 2 ports is not THAT much less than buying the 256GB version with a SATA card (but I might as well get some more capacity while i'm at it). Really love this forum right now. :D

edit: What do you think of the drives from OWC? The prices for Aurora Pros on a per-GB basis are pretty much the same as drives on eBay, though the warranty through OWC seems like it'd be nice to have. Speeds do seem to be lower (as far as ratings go)

There are too many posts to count on MR detailing issues with OWC drives. Performance on their recently announced upgrades for the nMP, which is compatible with the Sintech Adapter, leaves a lot to be desired.

Regarding warranty concerns, I haven't heard of any failure issues with Samsung Drives and have been using their SSD's since the 470 SATAII drive without issue. With that said, there are major performance issues with the 840Evo line whilst accessing data > 90 days old that Samsung is attempting to address with Firmware updates.
 
Yeah, I saw that about the EVO line. That's pretty brutal; from what Iv'e read even the firmware fix didn't fix it.

After doing more research in this thread (and based on what you just said, handheldgames), I think my best bet is going to be an Apple drive. Native Trim, tons of performance, good reliability.
 
I need someone to deconflict what I'm reading here and what I see on eBay on the model # of the 1TB Apple/Samsung SSD "blade." If I'm reading the last couple of pages of this thread correctly, the MZ-KPV1T00/0A2 (655-1860A) is the one to get. Is that correct?

Looking on eBay, I only see MZ-KPU1T0T/0A6 (655-1810D).

Yes, the MZ-KPV1T00/0A2 can 1.2 GB/s Write and 1.4 GB/s Read. But the newest MZ-KPV1T0R/0A2 can 1.4 GB/s Write and 1.5 GB/s Read.

Thanks. But, unfortunately, there are no MZ-KPV1T0R/0A2 SSDs on eBay (that I can find), only MZ-KPU1T0T/0A6 SSDs.

For reasons I still don't understand, when I had it in slot 2 it would link x4 but at only 2.5GT/s which produced the tests in the ~750's. When I moved it to slot 4 it kicked up to 5 GT/s and I got the better numbers.

And there is no secret method or supplier to finding these revisions. At the moment there haven't been many around and I've just been faithful about looking. There are services, you know, that scan ebay for whatever you are looking for and email you when one pops up.

Wonder how it would test in a 6,1?
 
If a consistent supplier of PCI-e SSDs could be found that include the TOR model, outside of eBay, would anyone be interested in a flat rate price with adapter card?

Access to Samsung's latest technology is a benefit for any vendor. The few sticks that have shown up thus far must have fallen off a truck or out of someone's pocket. These are probably engineering samples that represent early production runs for new technology in the pipeline. If this is not the case and this technology IS AVAILABLE... Please send me a PM.

Here's the speed I was getting on a 512GB Apple/Samsung blade in one of the cheap $10 adapters.

The model # was MZ-JPU512T/0A6

I am having dramatically different results when testing a 1TB SSD blade with Blackmagic vs. Quickbench and could use some advice on why.

I installed the blade in a nMP (not the Sintech and cMP setup most of you guys are using). Earlier today, Blackmagic was showing results consistent with the average 1 TB blades people have been talking about.

After I partitioned the SSD to allow for a 65 GB Boot Camp partition, that may have been when my results totally tanked. I started getting 200 MB/s read/write. I was shocked. I thought the blade itself might not be working right anymore.

But, I bought QuickBench and this app is showing the right speeds when run with "Large Test (2-10 MB)." The results are again right in line with what yogis have reported.

Anyone know why this might be the case? Trim Enabler (which I don't use for TRIM, but occasionally for its speed test) also reports the slow speeds of 200 MB/s read/write).

Which app is probably right?

Could the Boot Camp partition be throwing off the results somehow?

About 5-10% slower than in a cMP.

Sadly my sluggish D300s are each getting 16 lanes of PCIE 3.0 while the SP951 is only getting 4 lanes of PCIE 2.0.

Oh well, at least it's shiny.

Gonna slap it back in my 4,1 where I can use a GTX980 and get some real performance.
