512 GB Apple Samsung SSD MZ-JPV512R/0A2 for Macbook air Early 2014

Will this work?

I have been reading this thread all day and had to become a member so I could ask your opinion about an Apple/Samsung SSD that I just purchased this afternoon:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Samsu...ina-iMac-Mac-Pro-Late-2013-2014-/151605593746

Will it work with the Sintech card in a 2010 Mac Pro?

Originally I wanted to contact "handheldgames" directly but I don't even know how to PM in this site since I just registered. Will appreciate any advice!

Thank You!

Well, that's good news! Like I said before, yesterday I was reading this thread for several hours and made my desicion to buy this particular SSD based on what I read. But this particular SSD was only mentioned at mid-thread and after I placed the order I started having seconds thoughts and decided to join and ask for your opinion.

Have you used this SSD in particular? Is there anything that you can share with me that could make my upgrading easier?

Thank's again!

Many of us here are using one of the Apple blade SSD's in a cMP with great results. The one you linked is the newer revision that's been talked about toward the end of this thread - in short it will work the same only with faster read/write speeds.

I have one of the original 512 ones that was pulled from a nMP and it's been incredibly fast for my purposes, and I had absolutely no issues at all installing it and loading OS X using the Sintech adapter.

Thank's again!

Thank's to you both Mikeboss and Zorn for your insight. I just was notified that I will receive the Sintech card by the end of April and I should receive the SSD either by the end of this week or beginning of the next one.

While I was reading the thread I started thinking that I should buy one of the Apple/Samsung ssd's so I could have trim enabled during isntallation and avoid having to use the third party software. I had barely used this Mac Pro and recently I decided to upgrade it and use it only for development. My goal is to have the operating system and applications in the ssd and only use the tower bays for backups and extra storage.

I will keep an eye on this thread and certainly I will share my experience with the forum when I finish my project.

Update:

Tomorrow Saturday I should receive the 1tb apple/samsung ssd. The seller gave me a little trouble after I made the purchase and wanted me to cancel it because he didn't want to ship to PR and I had to remind him that we might not be a State but we are definitely territory and he agreed to ship. Since this happened they changed the price of the ssd; I paid $664 and no shipping charges and now it's $723:

I have my fingers crossed and won't feel at ease until I have it in my hands!

You realize that there are PCIe adapter cards on Amazon right? Sintech and others, that do work fine.

What?

No, I didn't. I used the link at the beggining of the thread to buy the Sintech card because I wanted a card that was talked about a lot in the thread as a working one. Please, enlighten me! Is good to have many choices!

Using a Samsung XP941 256gb SSD on a Lyncom DT120 adapter. Working fine and bootable. Fast Boot up time at 19 secs starting from the chime sound. The icon of the SSD appears as an orange external HD on the desktop. Apps open noticeably faster and snappier. Using Mountain Lion 10.8.3.

In my recent upgrades I installed an OWC Accelsior E2 in my Mac Pro and the icon of the ssd was orange (as external HD)... I just copied the icon from an internal HDD and it didn't bug me anymore... LOL

What would be a reliable combination to get for a boot drive? I see a lot of posts about trouble-shooting, resetting SMC, drives not recognized at startup etc.

I am not worried about a bit of a challenge, but once installed it should just work, I don't want to have to have to fiddle with it. Is that a realistic target? Anybody here who has had this stuff working flawlessly for like a year?

Or woud it be better to just get one of those turnkey Accelsiors from OWC? I see the OP has described those as unreliable...

I have a Apricorn Velocity Solo X2 & Samsung 840-Pro 512GB installed in Slot2 of my cMP 5,1. TrimEnabler installed and working fine since early Mavericks.

No fiddling after the install, it works flawlessly.

That said, I have the Sintech v.1 adaptor just waiting for a new Apple/Samsung blade to replace it as the boot drive.

Advance Congrats on your incoming SSD Samsung blade. Usually the excitement builds up waiting until unboxing. Nice to have varied options.

I just saw where RamCity has the new SM951 NVMe on Amazon just 1 and only 128GB.

Sequential Read: 2000MB/s, Sequential Write: 600 MB/s, Random Read (QD=4): 90K IOPS, Random Write (QD=4): 70K IOPS

M.2 Interface: PCIe Gen3 8Gb/s, up to 4 lanes. Works with cMP.
Estimated Delivery Date: April 29 - May 20

Apple compatibility: Note this SSD is not compatible in Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro computers. The only apple computer it works in is the pre-cylindrical Mac Pro with a standard M.2 to PCIe adapter such as the Lycom DT-120 ;-)

Cheers

nMP = 6,1 New Mac Pro
cMP = 1,1 thru 5,1 and c is for Classic, not as I a guessing you thought, "cylinder"

I had a little grin when I read "pre-cylindrical Mac Pro"! Never read this in any review before...

Cheers

Placing the SSUBX in slot 2 may drop it to a 2.5 GT/s speed, limiting the bandwidth to 800MB/S

I just wanted to share my experience (confirming the 2.5 GT/S speed) when using the SSUBX in a Sintech adapter in slot 2 on a 2009 Mac Pro flashed to 5,1.

Placing the Sintech adapter (v2) in Slot 3 or 4 allows the SSUBX to run at 5.0 GT/s and you can get the full speed of the device (approx 1450 MB/s) Placing the Sintech adapter (v2) in Slot 2 drops the connection down to 2.5 GT/s and halves the speed into approximately 750 MB/s. My results are consistent with other users who have reported this same issue. The v2 card seems to fit fine regardless of the slot used but something clearly is wacky when its placed in slot 2.

Either way by reconfiguring your PCI card positions and placing the Sintech adapter in slot 3 or 4 the speeds are fantastic.
