Wrong. Nothing is scratch proof, not even diamond.
I have had every iPhone and have never had the screen protected .and have never had a scratch. That said, I do have the anti glare film from PowerSupport on my iPad and I love it - so mu.ch so that I may have to get one for my next iPhone.

Mmm.. i had my iphone naked for a really loong time then one day i saw some deep scratches on the corner of the glass. Oh well I honestly dont care, I dont like that pos anyway. Hopefully the next iphone is decent.

Why in the world would you buy the next iPhone if you think the current one is a "pos"?

it depends on how you use your iPad
if it sits on the sofa all day (and you don't have pets, kids, or a clumsy bird) then its less likely to get scratched

I've seen the video of the cat using an iPad, but a bird? And in what way could this bird be clumsy in order to scratch the screen? Claws and beaks are much softer than glass, so that can't be it. Is it carrying over sand from the bottom of it's cage? Does it have a diamond studded beak?

I always used to have a screen protector on my iPhone 3G, but i took it off about six weeks ago. My reasoning was that i've stopped caring about it so much since i'm due an upgrade now. The screen protector was pretty scratched and needed replacing anyway.

Six weeks of abusing it in my pocket, with keys and change, etc etc, and its not picked up a single scratch.

So it does appear to me, all that time i spent with the screen protector on, was somewhat pointless.

Disagree. I have had the iPhone since day one, iPod touch, iPad, ect. Phone rides naked in my pocket with the change/keys and I have never had a problem.

Same here. Though I normally take care to put an iPhone in whatever pocket I don't have my keys in.

Sand is the thing most likely to scratch your screen. Like when you wipe it clean with your pants or shirt. If there's any grit on your cloths or screen when you wipe it, scratched.

Honestly the shallow scratches aren't a big deal, but it's easily avoidable. If you have trouble getting a screen protector on, ask a friend. If you don't have any friends, pay someone.

No offense taken. I don't have on on my watch, car window, house windows, tv, mirrors in my house, glass table tops, iphone, iPad, etc, I just use them and they are fine.

Oh, almost forgot, I don't have plastic slip covers for my sofa either.

I think I'll piggyback on Zazoh's excellent comeback. ;) I also choose to "ride bareback" with all three of my devices and I greatly enjoy the enhanced sensation of intimacy and closeness that comes with it...

There are no scratches on any of my devices... they're all pristine. The simple trick I've found is just not to: drop them, place them thoughtlessly in dumb places, eat food while using them, drink/smoke/fire handguns while operating, let kids/pets/drunks handle them, etc..

I have a Palm Pre, and the screen is covered in tiny scratches. Covered, from top to bottom. You can't see them when the phone is on, but when it's off it's like Christmas at the peoples house who get scratches for Christmas.

Tonight I found a small scratch on my iPad screen. It's not obvious, but it's there.

I ordered a Power Support screen protector right after I found it.

My guess is that I must have picked a speck of something abrasive in the Apple cleaning cloth that I use to clean the iPad. I know I'm always wiping the fingerprints off so I guess it was just a matter of time.

UPDATE: The three screen covers I got for $4.95 on ebay arrived today. I ordered them to see what it would be like remember, because I've never been a fan of screen covers on my iPhones. Surprisingly, these are awesome! My screen is still shiny, but not as shiny as before which is good, and fingerprints are minimalized. I think I may keep these and and order more!

I still refuse to put one on my iPhone though.

All the people saying "Glass is harder than X", maybe it's not the actual glass getting scratched, but the coating? Would still be visible I would think.

Apple iPad Case is great design

I use the Apple iPad case. Put it in the second day and haven't taken it out. Very tight fit and thin but adds extra layer of protection. I can can carry around without fear of dropping or scratching and easily open when needed. Also, works well for brief case. The cover has a feature to prop up pad for desk use which is great. I love my iPad!

Meh...no thanks.
Naked is the only way to go. If you use a screen protector might as well watch everything in low def and 256 colors.

Not true of quality protectors (i.e., Power Support). You'd be hard pressed to find any difference in color, brightness, etc. with their Crystal screen protector.

No offense but you have to be a complete and total idiot to not buy a screen protector for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Disagree. I don't have a screen protector and I'm most definitely not planning on getting one.

For me I'm done trying to go overboard babying my apple products to maximize resale.

+1. I really like my iPad Case as well. Fits like a glove and adds the protection all around. I also purchased the ShaggyMac cleaning cloth which is cut to the size specifically for the iPad screen. I keep this cloth over the screen at all times when not in use for even more protection! :D Just remember to give the cloth a shake to rid of any tiny hard objects. ;) I also bought a CrownCase Netbook shoulder bag, where I can slip my iPad in when on the go.

HAHAH 24.95 for a screen protector? I got mine for 3.00 shipped and I can guarantee you couldnt tell it was there if I didnt say something. Paying 25.00 for something that came from the same factory as the 3.00 one is just plain dumb.

As for the dude saying that its like watching low res, he should have his eyes checked.

So from the start I was under the impression that my iPad's screen was pretty much scratch proof. Despite that I've been extremely careful with it, the back is protected by a hard case and if I take it anywhere I put it in its sleeve. I've never once dropped it or dropped anything on it, but today I noticed 3 or 4 scratches on the screen, one of them being pretty noticeable :( Needless to say I'll be buying a screen protector shortly. I know there have been a few other threads about similar stories but this is just a reminder, YOUR IPAD IS NOT SCRATCH PROOF!

On a related note, will a screen protector help cover up already existing scratches or make them more obvious?

Could you please post a photo ?

iphone, ipod touch, ipad screens can be scratched.

I proved at a BB store when I was challenged. I just used my finger nails and applied a little pressure and left a slight scratch. At first it looked like a smear, but it wouldn't wash out. So it's a scratch.

So Warning: these screens are scratch-able. They can take some punishment, and depends on what packed along with it in your bag, something sharp and pointing moving against with some pressure will scratch the screen.

I will say the term scratch resistance when handle with care is the best description. But even the most careful person can still scratch it by accident.

I use Zagg invisishield on my ipad and iphone.

Can you post a link to the one you purchased from eBay? TIA

Your last name wouldn't happen to be Krueger or Wolverine, would it? ;)

Heh - - at least you brought a little humor to this, because I simply don't believe the iPad screen can be scratched with a fingernail - - perhaps devinci's diamond ring was upside down.

Can we please not have in every thread one of these " if you don't do what I think then you are an idiot" comment. It's getting old.

You don't know how likely someone is to scratch their device nor do you know if they care.

The world is larger the you seem to be able to imagine and people are more different than you think. No reason to call everybody names.

I for one don't care about scratches or dead pixels, never had one. The bumper on my car costs more than an iPad to replace. If I were worried about scratches my car would be the place to spend money, not a cheap iPad.

LOL

Seriously!

It can be scratch if you want to do it purposely, even with your fingernails! I showed a BB Apple Specialist at the Apple Kiosk in the store; when he said it won't scratch.

I was nice enough to scratch only at the glass away from the main screen (like near the speaker); because I was skeptical.

That point on, I told all my iphone friends, that the screens are scratch-able.

If you dont believe me (dont do it to your own please) try it on a floor model at a BB store.

AFTER it was scratch, it was still a bit hard to notice depending on lighting. I knew where it was so i knew how to look for it.
