Night shift will usually show up areas that are bias towards pink by making those areas of the panel more darker when night shift is enabled.
As weird at it sounds I still prefer the display technology used on my m1 MacBook Pro. Is it mini led ?
PS. The best mobile device oled panel that I’ve ever owned was and don’t laugh. On a Huawei Mate 20X. That was the oled panel with a 7.3” flat screen. I think it was made by BOE but can’t be sure.
Oddly with night shift enabled it is even less noticeable. At high brightness of 75% or above it also isn't noticeable.

I believe you re: the Mate 20X. The supposedly "cheap quality" Chinese phones that I've used are better than many iPhones I've had. I had a OnePlus 7 years ago with the pop-up camera, that is still my favorite phone to date with no cut outs or notches on the screen. The screen was perfect. Had a Xiaomi 14, also perfect screen. Was in China and played with two Huawei flip phones, perfect screens.

White uniformity that also was visible on light grays. Top 1/3 of the screen was a different hue of white than the rest of the screen, with a hint of red tint at the very bottom. I'm making it sound worse than it is, had my relative not wanted the phone I would've kept it. But since he did, why the heck not get one more?

Nope, this one is it. I've seen enough trash screens to know when to keep one (as you and others also have). I can deal with off-axis shift if the screen is uniform.
That's strange. I was looking on mine for like 5-10min trying to find an issue, but I couldn't. I guess I'm lucky. :D (usually when it comes to displays, I'm very unlucky with pixel defects)

At least we got "top" tier G9P screens (if this is 100% giveaway). I saw that G9N was the best for iPhone 13/Pro. For 14Pro/15Pro and 16Pro it seems G9P are the best, than G9N.

They make good screens. I wonder if they are BOE.

Sometimes I think perhaps subconsciously I refrained from upgrading the 14PM to 15PM last year because I had a decent unit and decent display. Haha. But indeed, it’s stressful .

Hah been there. Panel lottery definitely makes me stretch my upgrade cycles. Especially if I just got over a bad one the previous year with hassle or straight up losing

So the 16 pro and pro max are using the new m14 panels but is the LG panel some new model as well? All the rumor article headlines were only talking about m14 coming to this generation phone without shedding any light on what the LG one is

That's a whole other rabbit hole that I don't want to go down into 😂. I have the same question- is the tech the same in the LG panels, power consumption / savings, voltages, etc. Who knows.

I did see another LG screen on my cousin's 16PM last night. Let's just say he now knows the pain of the panel lottery, would never had known otherwise had he not seen my phone beside his. Worst green shift I have ever seen on a phone. Especially when tilting the phone vertically, the green hue is very, very strong and just horrible. The whole screen glows bright teal / green at an angle. LG is also a panel lottery. But many of these screens should never have made it out of the factory.

You can ask Ross Young about that. On paper M14 is Samsung thing, but since Apple are designing the screens and Samsung and LG, just making them, I'm gonna say both LG/Samsung use the new materials.

Decided to walk into Apple store and they happened to have stock for walk-ins. Sticking to my 3 and out rule (self-imposed two unit return limit) and this is my 3rd 16PM. Prayed to the OLED gods as I unboxed it and sure enough it is almost perfect. Barely any uniformity unevenness and shift. This one has Samsung G9N panel. I was very worried after seeing my cousin's 16PM LG screen. Thank goodness 😁.

I wouldn’t rule out LG!

I much prefer the off axis of my Samsung 16 plus but it has its merits .. the colors are a little bit punchier on my LG 13 mini against it looking at the same content and I consider both panels excellent (the 13m and 16+)

..And my (unknown panel but suspecting lg) 16 pro i returned was a brightness champ compared to all in store units and looked a smidge more vibrant too in store despite also coming across a smidge warmer. It just wasn’t as uniform as I wanted and battery life wasn’t great and thought it was too hefty

:p

G9N here on 16 Pro. Warm green tint (i'd prefer it to be just blueish) and rather poor viewing angles. But i've gotten used to it.

NewerApple Watch models are also like this (now that I start to notice it).

Yep, spoke too soon. At night with average to low brightness an ugly red tint appears on the right bottom half of the screen. More obvious with TT and night shift. I don’t know why Apple can’t QC these screens better. That’s it for me, keeping my 2nd one and sending this one back. Borderline infuriating considering the price of these devices.

Sorry to hear about this. Roll on the iPhone 17 series 👍🤓
I did mention in one of my previous posts that the red tint is visible when night shift is used. Again I have to be very critical and notice one slight corner side of device with night shift enabled is microscopic darker with night shift enabled. I just left it, since generally speaking it’s good when in dark and day mode with just truetone on. I always have truetone enabled.

Everything is a contender for winner under the store lights :p

Mine probably is identical to yours. Not noticeable in daylight, maybe a bit with TT enabled. But I use my phone a lot at night or in lower brightness and this sticks out. My 2nd one that I’m keeping despite the slight uniformity issue looks less offensive with TT or night shift enabled.

Mines definitely the top quarter area slightly more tinted when night shift is on. Again it’s all relevant to my ambient lighting also. Sometimes I see it sometimes I don’t. Haha. I’ve said this before, I do love the non OLED M1 MacBook Pro 14” screen. Wonder why they never used this tech for the iPhones. Probably cost or robustness?

Is my panel slightly yellow ? 😂🤣
Hard to see in photo but night shift on full wack

16 pro here, GVC serial and to my eyes it looks amazing. I switched phone colors (launch day) to yesterdays (new stock already on 18.0.1) and the display difference is night and day. I wish I had checked the display serial number on the returned unit.

Another legendary LG panel. 👍👍🏼 I can’t wait until Apple fires Samsung as panel suppliers. Roll on BOE.
