I would probably return it. What about dark grays in low light?

no non uniformity with dark greys
only white and very light grey
I am thinking of just going to the S25 Ultra as I fear it is almost impossible to get a perfect 16 Pro Max panel

Don't think that S25U will be flawless. OLED is OLED :) In my opinion, your unit is not bad compared to many. Just take it as is and enjoy. :)
I think this generation with S25 Ultra the uniformity of the samsung has greatly improved specially with the problems that were there with the S24 Ultra
anyways I am torn don't know what to do
my return windows expired and I am thinking of selling the phone and getting S25

It's more of an OLED variance, rather than uniformity that are gen related.

I feel like that is not always the case
the 12 pro max suffered from severe display problems
13 pro max was less
14 pro max that year was the best for apple I nver saw a bad 14 pro max screen
the 15 pro max was an okay year I guess
this year is bad again

Not trying to be condescending but if it makes no difference to you what eco system you’re in then get the s25 ultra.
Yes. The 14 pro max screen was nice. 12 pro max was the worst for sure. Green tint etc and pink tint in dark colors.

I almost earned a PhD in replacing the iPhone 16 Pro Max this year, and here are my observations. I went through 10 units. The Samsung screens this year are not great at all. Every single screen is different from the other, as if Apple has no quality control whatsoever. Even the LG screens of the same type can differ when placed next to each other. My wife has an iPhone from launch day, and its screen is excellent (GH3H). After many replacements, I finally received a device with a GVCH screen today, and I’m going to keep it. It’s not perfect either, but it’s satisfactory.

It’s a complete lottery, and it’s sad that Apple can’t seem to produce a device with consistently good quality. Moreover, all the demo units I’ve seen in various electronics stores have perfect screens — when compared to my replacements, it’s like night and day. What’s more, with each replacement, I kept getting devices that had defects right out of the box, like blemishes on the frame or fingerprints. It’s unacceptable. And all of these were purchased through Apple’s official store.

So, I wish you patience and perseverance in the search for the perfect replacement unit.

Same here: I got an excellent LG panel (GH3H...).

Just upgraded to two 16 Pros, both GVCH. One of them is pretty even with just a little green/blue shift when tilted. The other one had yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen and noticeable green shift off-axis. The shift also caused a reduction in brightness and clarity - really noticeable once I saw it and very disappointing. Luckily I stumbled on this thread the day after I opened the box and returned it.

My 14 Pro Max is a G9N and is very sharp/clear with solid uniformity.

Not sure what to do now as these are carrier deals and continually returning devices is not appealing even though it seems like the 16 Pros should be a little more consistent.

Has anyone purchased through Apple but used a carrier deal and can speak to returns/exchanges in that situation? Guessing I’d be able to freely exchange according to their 14 day policy?

I suggest returning and repurchasing as full price on a credit card until you get one that you are satisfied with, once you get one you like you should be able to have the in-store rep return it as open box and let you re-purchase it. I’m not sure if this will allow you to use a carrier deal but it certainly works for the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Same here. All the demo iPhones in my local Apple store have perfect screens, I took the time to check every single one of them. I don't believe it's a coincidence since good screens are very rare.

However, after these few days of testing, I’ll be returning another unit. I thought this was finally the one, but it turns out it’s not. I’ve given up and will swap with my wife for her launch-day unit, and I’ll order a new one for her—she doesn’t care much about the screen. It’s disappointing that Apple hasn’t done anything about this for years. I’m waiting for the iPhone 17 launch, although leaks don’t mention new screens, just a design change.

What is your current screen's serial number, and what specific issues are you facing? Also, what is your wife's screen serial number?

As I already mentioned in the previous thread – my wife’s phone is from launch day, and she has a GH3H screen, meaning it’s an LG panel. This week, I received a replacement unit with a GVCH panel, which is also LG. Despite my initial optimism after testing, I concluded that it’s bad, just like the previous ones I had replaced. The main issue is color shifting, especially when you tilt the phone. Additionally, the screen has a yellow tint, and grays are not actually gray.

Of course, you can live with it, but the demo units I saw in stores feel like they’re in a completely different league. Their screens (just like my wife’s) display colors perfectly, with no weird yellow discoloration. Unfortunately, the previous units I received were also GH3H, and every single one was terrible. I also had a Samsung G9N panel once, and it was just as bad – at the slightest tilt, the display would show all the colors of the rainbow. Yes, it was much brighter compared to the LG panel, but that didn’t matter much.

That’s why, in this regard, Samsung has a great feature in the display settings that lets you choose a color profile and compensate for these issues. On the iPhone, even after trying different color filters, no settings were satisfactory. It’s frustrating, and it seems like Apple is aware of the issue but isn’t doing anything about it.

I’m curious to see which screen my wife got today – the package with her phone just arrived. I’ll keep her good unit and wait for the iPhone 17 in the fall. I’ll let you know which screen she received.

Decided to impulse buy the 16 Pro Max yesterday to have 5x zoom on my upcoming trip. I love my 16 Plus but miss the 5x zoom.

Anyway, of course, the screen on the 16 Pro Max was a disaster as expected. Some of the worst off-axis shift from white to piss yellow. So, they haven't fixed any screens. Obviously, returned on the spot. Apple fail.

I also have this conspiracy theory that last year (when the model was launched and demo units reached stores and the first customers), Apple was getting better panels for production, and now they’re receiving some lower-quality or cheaper batch. It’s unbelievable to replace 10 units and have all of them be subpar. That’s why I’ve given up.

it is not conspiracy I think it is not strange for manufactureres to sell the best units with launch day as mostly those are the people the the highest expectations however it is may not be actually correct
what I think happened is that apple did not inform samsung with the new display sizes soon enough so they could not cover all the order hence the 80% LG share from what I saw
another thing to mention is the less time available made them rush the panels hence the poor panel quality of samsung
which compaired to a device from 2 years ago 14 pro max is night and day
I sold the 16 pro max and got the S25 Ultra
the display is uniform but has color shift on severe tilt but I am much happier with it than the 16 Pro Max which I felt like the same as the 14 pro max I had with a downgraded display I could not accept

An interesting thing—The Desert Titanium that arrived today has a Samsung screen (G9N). It has a warmer tone but is perfect, with no rainbow colors when tilted. This only confirms the theory that every display is different. Interestingly, the back of the phone has a slightly different shade than the one from the launch day.
