. the only thing I had with it is my AirPods charging case. Which I highly suspect is the reason as when I put them together the height matches . Yet it does not make sense since AirPods charging case is not like keys...
two phones scratched almost at the same area within such short period of time with essentially a rounded plastic object...

Go pick-up your AirPod charging case and run your hands around it. It is certainly not smooth. Feel those sharp edges at the back and front around the lid? .... exactly

I don’t like micro scratches so I’ll use a screen protector. I suggest everyone else to do so to or don’t bi**h about scratches

Screen protector is a waste of money and makes the experience feel cheap. It's absolute butter without it why would you want to make your fashion icon look and feel cheap?

Never had a problem in the past with prominent screen scratches with the 7+ even when tossed in my bag with sharp object and/or keys. Suddenly I have one long scratch down the front of my X screen and it was caused by keys in the same pocket. Oof! I should have known better, but now never doing that again.

Because you don't need one, if you're careful. And, use common sense.
Most sensible thing said here all day.

I've never, ever scratched a phone, not even the sides. I don't nanny them either, just use a good fitting case and as you say, common sense and a bit of care. It's funny when people say how fragile the phone is yet they know it's glass, and guess what happens when you drop glass?! lol

Doesn’t feel cheap to me. I use a glass one. But I prefer to have one my phone so the screen will have no scratches on it.

I have a pretty deep scratch in my X's screen, it's about .5cm-1cm long that I can feel with my fingernal. I run mine naked, as I did with my 6 for the previous 3 years. Not a mark on my 6's screen. I've run every Iphone since the first one naked and have never had an actual scratch in the screen. I keep my phone in my left front pocket with nothing else and have never had an issue. X is definitely more susceptible to scratching in my anecdotal experience. I have apple care+, but I don't think the scratch is bad enough to get it fixed now, I'll probably wait and see how the durability is over 6 months then get it fixed.

With the amount of tech available there must be a way to make a scratch resistant screen. I’m so over the micro scratches in one week, it’s been the same crap since iPhone 3G . IMO it’s GREED GREED GREED GREED on Apples part.

They give us just enough to shut us up but never go the extra mile. I really hate Apple but it’s still the best phone. Really upset with their business model because this goes beyond the screen(it’s just the screen that makes me madder) but it’s the ram the storage the compromises on camera bump , what a mess .

F You apple, but I’m
Stuck I’ve tried android and overall it’s a worse experience although it seems like they try to give us more

Perhaps invest in a screen protector. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints about Apples displays or scratches with any of my iPhones for that matter.

But if you're complaining Over ten years worth of iPhones saying it's "The same crap since the iPhone 3G", then perhaps it's time for you to move onto a different smart phone, given that Apple's build quality with their iPhones has always been stellar by my standards. But good luck finding better customer service than Apple.

What do you suggest Apple use to stop you from scratching your phone?

Diamond screen would be very expensive and still scratch if you hit it with a diamond ring. It’s easier just to be careful.

More brittle than glass. Would shatter easily.

LOL!

The phone would triple in costs. A large piece of sapphire would also be very brittle. What Apple uses is about the best compromise there is right now. All cell phone screens will scratch. The micro abrasions are unavoidable but only can be seen is very bright light a just the right angle.

Apple would be the first to use something if it were better than what we have now as they do want you to be happy. The OP’s solution is to blame it on ApPle for micro scratches that they likely has on every phone they have used.

The screen on mine is doing just fine with no scratches; though I do clean the phone at least once a day with a microfiber cloth. I usually don't use a case, but decided to get one as I noticed two small scratches on the back glass, and a minor one on the stainless steel frame. I only use the case when I'm out of the house, and always make a point of taking it out of the case at the end of the day for cleaning -- dust and whatever else has its way of finding its way into the case.

Micro-scratches are unavoidable. Pockets and purses are full of tiny particles of dirt as well as fingers. Screen protector is the only option if it bothers you but, they’ll scratch too.

It does make me laugh when people buy a device and expect it to remain completely free from the effects of wear and tear.

Trying to keep a phone screen free of micro scratches is as impossible as trying to keep car paint free of swirls. They happen.

Funny how you rag on Apple not going the extra mile when the iPhone was one of the first smartphones with glass and made it mainstream.

They also tried to mass produce sapphire crystal displays, which no one else has done. There are phones with sapphire, but not mass produced.

Do you get mad at a car company for selling you a car that gets paint swirls and dents?

Some things are preventable with proper care. You're comparing an iPhone display to Paint on a vehicle. When you purchase a new car, you have the ability to physically inspect the car before you purchase it and sign the contract. Unless the car is used, then you would have to expect the vehicle to not be in perfect condition with defects.

When someone purchases a phone, they have the option of utilizing a screen protector to help protect the display. If they're complaining of scratches, the scratches had to get there somehow in the first place. That's the risk you take when you purchase a new iPhone without using any type of protection.

I used it two days with no case and their are no hairline scratches on the glass or the stainless steel band. I put it in a case with a glass protector after a couple days, so no issues. I was careful with it, but I wasn’t coddling it either, so it seems about as durable as other phones from my experience.
