Scratches happen, but I am not finding that my X is more prone than any other iPhone. Actually, it's been better. I had all these micro scratches on my 7 Plus pretty early on. Nothing so far on my X.

We’re all going to have different experiences, I have no idea how other people use, abuse and store their phones.

But mines been great. Had it since launch day, no case, no protectors and it’s been dropped, hurled across the floor and bounced off the dog, poor thing, she will lie at my feet.

Not deliberately mind, I am as careful as I can be. But things being dropped and thrown about are inevitable with me whether I like it or not.

My X still looks as good as the day I took it out of its box, I’ve found it to be surprisingly resilient. I was very worried about the glass back. But so far it’s faring better than my JB 7+ did.

My iPhone X some scratches but whatever. Screen Protectors changr the texture of the screen and make it look less nice. Unless you have deep scrathes, you won’t even notice the them when the screen is on. Why does it matter?

Seriously. Some of you each year are suprised that a device you constantly use and touch has some wear and tear. The iphone is not some art piece.

Under bright morning sunlight I can see dozens of fine scratches glinting on the display but only in bright morning sunlight. For the sake of my OCD I’ll just assume it’s the oleophobic coating and not the cover glass.

In the two weeks since I got my X, I have not used the phone any differently than with my past iPhones. Although I always make sure to put my iPhone in a pocket by itself.

I used to always put my iPhone in a dedicated pocket, no screen protector. I now stopped doing that because if the tiniest, unseen particle of sand or dirt gets in your pocket then it will scratch the screen. Hilariously, Starbucks lighting is the worst - it will show any and all micro scratches on your iPhone! Stay out of the light people!:);):D

Actually, since then, I've gotten really good at putting on screen protectors.. lol

I’m with you OP. I was watching YouTube this evening and noticed several light scratches on my X. I have been using iPhones the same way since 4s, never have I had scratches show up this fast and easy. Had my 6S almost two years, nothing like these...

I find it interesting that you bring that up. I, too, have had many of the iPhone iterations. The iPhone 4S was the last model I owned in which I did not need a screen protector. The only thing I can speculate is that the formula on the glass has changed over time (possibly even the oleophobic coating) to the point where it's more shatter resistant, but NOT as scratch resistant. Yet videos from JerryRigEverything on YouTube seems to contradict that. So I'm baffled..

Would the spot be on the right side of the screen, almost a quarter down from the top?

I circled the area.

I’ve got scratches on my 10 - no idea where they are from. I have nothing sharp in my bag pocket, where I keep the phone, nor in my jacket pockets. It’s a mystery. The screen must be pretty soft.

I do won’t go without a case, but I really hate to cover the screen because it’s so velvety smooth. I’ve been following these threads and decided to inspect and brush out all the pockets this X might go into. Glad I did, as some of my seasonal dress slacks for work, even though they’re fresh from the cleaners, had some grit/sand like dust buried deep in the seams of the pockets when I turned them inside out and used a clothes brush on them.

Yeap and keep it away from the beach.

I know I am a bit OCD about my phone but interestingly my previous iPhone X (not working out of box so I returned) and current replaced one both got fairly deep scratches almost on the same spot near the area u circled (like u-can-feel-it-with-ur-finger kind) within less than 24 hours. It never happened with the 6 I owned and the only thing I had with it is my AirPods charging case. Which I highly suspect is the reason as when I put them together the height matches . Yet it does not make sense since AirPods charging case is not like keys... I usually handle my phone quite carefully and I have a case and I use it as the same way as I would with my 6 (which only has one small scratch that’s as deep as the ones I had on my X and some hairline scratches, and I put it with my AirPods case).
I know glass scratches and I accept it. But what bothers me is that two phones scratched almost at the same area within such short period of time with essentially a rounded plastic object...

I've had my iPhone for 6 days now, and it's been in a case the entire time. I just looked down at the screen and it already has a scratch on it. I'm baffled.
I've always had an iPhone, going back to the first one 10 years ago. I haven't dropped it, and it stays in my pocket alone. No keys, nothing else in that pocket. Yet it has a scratch on the screen already. How did this happen? I'm wondering if anyone else is finding their iPhone X screen being prone to scratches.

Soooo I've had my phone 4 days and just noticed the same... like you I've never experienced this before with an iPhone and thought I was going crazy for a second. This to me a flaw and I'm sure others will follow. Please let me know what your outcome is if any.

I've had every iPhone from the original and never used a screen saver. I've only had typical small scratches, even when putting them in a pocket with my keys. The first week with my iphone X, I got a long nasty hairline scratch. Pretty clear to me that this screen is more scratch prone than the others.

Is it the nature of OLED? I still really like Apples suped up LCD panel.

I agree iPhone x scratches way too easy. My iPhone x has two scratches already and scratches way easier then any iPhone I have ever owned. I read that the new iPhone was suppose to have a more durable screen I am very disappointed with the screen quality.

My thoughts exactly. Now I have to decide if I want to (a) pay $99 for a new screen, and then (b) use a screen protector for the first time in my life. but to be honest, a screen protector may not be too bad for this phone. I had always avoided them because it's impossible to get the fit just right, with the home button, etc. Now that all we have to deal with is a notch, a screen protector may not be too obtrusive.

I've had my X in a pocket with keys and no sign of a scratch anywhere. So no, its screen doesn't scratch easily.
