mine also has a small imperfection on the titanium! I didn't change it for fear of receiving something worse! what do you think?
If that minor imperfection is the only thing and not too noticeable and especially if the screen is something you find nice I'd keep that one.

Yeah, you might be right. I just myself had a long exchange roulette going on with my previous 12 Pro and I had 6 units with G9P and all had uniformity issues but the first G9N I got my hand on was very nice and I was happy with it. Now with 15 PM we got 2 identical ones with both different screen G9P and G9N and yeah, neither has very good uniformity just different and I can't really make up my mind which one is less bad. I chose G9P even I knew these stories about claimed difference. It was a hard decision to make since this one with G9P also has weaker battery but based on test patterns and long tests I ended up with this. I regret not testing each one for a full day or two in normal everyday use as I still wonder if that other one is actually better in normal use (other family member has that phone now, it was a deal already between us that I get to choose the better screen since this other person don't stress over screens like I do.). It is just so hard to test them using it normally with your Apple ID since if you need to swap between the phones.
I can't remember if I went through 7 phones with the 12 Pro or 13 Pro. That was when I looked at screen type. Since the 14 Pro I've stopped checking, didn't check my 15PM until this thread haha.

I'd pay an additional $100 for a "premium panel guarantee" like some laptop manufacturers offer. Saves a lot of time and gain peace of mind.

my screen looks good to me! everything active and brightness at around 10%! what do you think about it?

I hear you. I'd pay even double premium for that. It is incredible stress to do this endless lets swap and hope the next one is good roulette.

You mentioned about OLED TVs in your previous message and I must say I was amazed (not in a good way) when I got my first 77" OLED. When I looked at 5% gray test pattern on that TV I better not repeat here what my thoughts were then. :)
That was such a huge turd in size too so I did not enter exchange roulette with it and I soon learned that my TV was actually one of the good ones, many were much worse.

I'm not sure you actually want to hear what I see, so I put my comments in spoiler tag just in case. :)
I can see that screen is a bit darker on the bottom, it has different tint between left and right side and some pink around DI.

I am about to make my final exchange (currently, this is my fourth unit).

The first unit had a strong red tint on the screen. The second had a good display but overheated significantly and quickly drained the battery. The third unit, again, had a strong red tint on the screen, and True Tone worked extremely unstably; the phone constantly misadjusted the screen temperature, not adapting properly to the surrounding light. The fourth unit has a slightly less prominent red tint but shifts the screen strongly towards a green hue when I slightly tilt the phone. Sometimes I find that half of my screen green and the other half is red. Additionally, the fourth device has a scratch on the frame near the screen and the case doesn’t cover it. That scratch catches my eye significantly when I hold the phone.

I am deeply disappointed with the quality of these new iPhones; my previous phone (iPhone 11) was perfect in every way, and I never once considered exchanging it.

For many people, it might not be a big deal, but for me it is a big deal. Buying a $1600 phone with a scratch out of the box, even if it's very small, it is still a defect. Same applies to screen.
I think so too! the problem is another, and that you will never know what the next one will be like! I can confirm this from my past experiences! In fact I didn't change it to avoid other problems! you have to live with something! or don't buy.

I agree, but today I found dust under 2 lenses (main and telephoto). So definitely will exchange again…

Our other 15 PM also has minor hairline scratch around volume buttons, but I did not bother exchanging it since it is always possible another has similar and/or some other problems. Also I went exhausting process of changing multiple 12 Pros back in the day and I never want to experience that stress again, it took months and was nerve wrecking. I've done some exchanges with other my gear too before including Apple products and it has been disaster almost always.
I just few months ago bought ThinkPad (I have MBP 14" too but I use Windows for certain tasks) and I ended up going through few of them until found one that has the least issues (it was 6th unit).
I envy people who don't stress over displays but actually just watch the content on the screen. I tend to watch the display instead of content. I've noticed most people actually concentrate on the content, like when I show my stuff like a new TV to someone and play movie content to demo it, they actually watch the content not the panel itself...

I don't worry as much with TV's or displays that mostly have moving content (video), as it is generally less noticeable to me and I focus on the content. A phone or laptop however, has a lot of static images, borders, whites and greys throughout OS UIs, and on these devices it is very noticeable and annoying to me when the screen is not uniform or has cast issues. In addition, people probably spend more time (i know I do) looking at my phone and laptop throughout the day.

Sure it makes difference where the screen in cut from the big glass but there might be something else too. Some company is telling on their web site about this, check Google using search Rewa tech G9P. Not sure what to think about that...?

Yeah if you just google G9N vs. G9P, you will find several sites and forums discussing this grading scale for Samsung and LG panels over the last number of years (probably since OLED was introduced). If this quality gradation scale is real, I am not sure what they are actually indicative of in terms panel characteristics. i.e. what does 'good' mean?

I remember seeing that when we were experiencing the same issues with the 13 Pro. I've have had many terrible G9N screens and G9P screens. I had a perfect G9Q screen once. My current G9P is perfect.

If someone comes and provides data on hundreds or thousands of samples of each panel type, then we're talking. Until then I don't believe anything I read about panel types and it is all just filed under the category of "trust me bro".

Can't wait until OLED dies...I refuse to even buy an OLED TV and haven't yet. My Nintendo Switch OLED suffers from smearing at lower brightness, the older LCD version was perfect. Same thing on PS Vita OLED, had dark blotches. The LCD revision while being slammed as inferior, was perfect.

Anecdotally, my assessment of quality (which is subjective) also doesn't show that G9N is superior to G9P in many conditions, and vice-versa. The combination of OLED technology limitations and Apple's QMS will likely have us on a wild goose chase with potentially no end. I probably have two average panels, and I will likely just pick one and be done with it. Bring on microLED.

I would definitely pay this also!

I have to agree regarding quality control here. These are expensive phones, and I expected Apple to have raised the bar in this department. Also, not sure if anyone has discussed this, but I actually do find viewing videos (YT, streaming apps etc) to be a little jarring at times, with mid and dark tones not being bright enough in comparison to the lighter tones. In mostly dark scenes (especially HDR content), detail, contrast, and depth is lacking, which is quite disappointing. This is even in comparison to my 12 PM.

So… I made my final exchange. The screen is much better; it's not perfect, but it's noticeably improved with no red tint at all. The green tint still persists at viewing angles, but it's not as aggressive as on the previous unit—totally acceptable. There's not a single scratch on the frame.

BUT… there's still some dust under the camera lenses, this time on both the main camera and the ultra-wide one.

I guess I lost the lottery this year.

Was it worth it? Absolutely… NOT!

Yes, I got a better screen and a chassis without scratches. But it's still not perfect, and I still have to deal with dust under the camera lenses on a $1600 phone. Instead of enjoying my new phone despite a few defects, I wasted a lot of time and ended up with the same phone with a "lesser amount" of defects. An Apple Store employee told me to accept it and not to think about dust under the lenses because "it's not dustproof." lol. I don't know if he is right or not.

I'm totally disappointed with the quality, but I think if we want to continue using iPhones, we have to accept Apple's mediocre QC and just live with it. Don't repeat my mistake; enjoy your new phone and don't try to find the "perfect iPhone." I feel bad and exhausted for going through multiple exchanges.

I hope you guys are having a good time and enjoying your new iPhones!

And again, do not repeat my mistake! It just doesn't worth it.

P.S. I feel bad because all these exchanges will cost Apple some money. I know it's a trillion-dollar company, but still, I feel like I wasted their money because I'm too picky. However, they definitely have to improve their quality control for such expensive devices.

he’s not…According to Wikipedia IP68= dust tight. Meaning complete protection against dust…
But yeah I get why you’re disappointed with Apple’s qc…I’ve gone through 4 iPhone 15s…3 pro max and 1 pro.
all returned because of dead pixels, dust in the camera and cosmetic damages…

I understand, but I'm very tired of dealing with these exchanges. Despite Apple employees always trying to help, today they looked at me like I was an idiot. They were very polite, but at first, they didn't see the dust under the lens, and then said it would get there anyway. In general, I felt like a complete idiot once again. I'm fed up. Since the dust that came with my 5th unit doesn’t affect the photo quality at all, I'm willing to accept it. Although I still believe that allowing such flaws in production at this price is absurd.

Fair enough.

Of what type?
A couple of dark dots, a few areas where it looks like the coating has smeared a little bit, etc. A couple of dark "scratches", which look more like a line of too much coating rather than a scratch. I can see some kind of defect on all 4 edges of the phone, but weirdly, I'm accepting of it. Really can't be bothered with the stress of going through exchanges. I'm very happy with my screen and I'm glad there are no imperfections whatsoever on the back glass, so I'm good. It helps knowing that the edges are covered in smears/fingerprints anyway after using it for 10 seconds, which actually hides most of these imperfections, so what's the big deal, you know?

I’d be highly annoyed but would keep that phone if the dust doesn’t affect photos or videos. And don’t feel bad for Apple. They accept these risks when they loosen QC in order to produce volume. They also lose FAR more due to thefts from trade ins by UPS and FedEx, which is a crime. You returning several phones due to defects is being a smart consumer.

Today my friend, who is into photography mentioned that even if the dust shifts over time on the lens, it's unlikely to be visible in photos. However, if it gets inside onto the sensor, there will definitely be a noticeable spot in the pictures.

Also I woke up with completely changed opinion. I feel nothing but anger. As a loyal fan of the company, having invested a lot of time, nerves, and money (replaced the screen protector three times at my expense), I still haven't received a quality product.

Moreover, every time I go for an exchange, I notice bewilderment on the Apple employees faces and hear excuses that defects are normal. Every time I disagree with them and go for an exchange, they behave as if they are paying from their own pocket. They try to be nice, but I can feel that they want me to agree with them and don’t do the exchange.

Wtf Apple ?

I feel your pain. And since I have gone through a lot of exchanges in search for perfection the past with several different electronic devices (Phones, TVs, Monitors), mostly for display problems, i have learned to live with a certain amount of imperfection, although I would love to have „perfect“ devices.
I still exchange when the flaw is too obvious, like the regular 15 Pro i ordered at launch, which had a very prominent red tint on the right side. I tried an 15PM some weeks later and while it’s uniformity is much better than the 15 Pro i first had, it’s still not perfect like i already mentioned here before (slightly warmer top than bottom…). I considered exchanging, but I’m happy i did not, since im not really noticing it anymore after just using it like i usually do.
In my opinion these devices should be perfect for the price we are getting charged, but it’s just not happening. So there is two options, live with a certain degree of flaws or just don’t buy it. The hunt for perfection is just exhausting and will make you everything but happy and enjoy these devices.
Sometimes we might get a unicorn which we consider perfect, but what i have learned over the years is that this very rare, at least for me.
