I am on my 3rd replacement and can verify they give you a new one off the line.

Regarding a new MB, I bet there will be a new revision when they start shipping the 17" MBP.

Do you think it makes a difference if it's a BTO? The sales rep told me that as soon as they receive my box, they will put me in front of the line, and expedite production. Which made me think it's brand new. But when I checked the new order number, it says that it is waiting to be shipped and will ship when the current one is returned.

The whole rev C, rev D thing might be bunk but the way I see it, it's a) psychological to want a new one and b) who knows , maybe production issues get fixed as the weeks progress. They could be correcting minor things in the line to prevent the problems ...

THIRD replacement knifegun? And they're all fresh off the line? Sheesh. What is the serial number (week of production) of your last one. I had a 14 that is going back ..

The week 14s *seem* to be ok. Mine may have been an anamoly since very few people have reported this sleep problem.

For what's worth, the heat issue was fine. Whine on the left side was nonexistent while the one on the right went away with Magic Noise Killer. No dead pixels etc.

Hope you have a good one!

MBP going back for a second time. I went back to the Apple Store and the genius got it to be really really hot. More than usual. The table stayed pretty hot for at least 20 minutes after we moved it off. Apparently they'll need to replace the logic board again. I didn't complain too much about the whine, which developed after the first time I got it back, because I don't notice it when the TV is turned up but I happened to mention it so it went in the report as well. I'll see it back in 7-10 days. :(

Mine still had the processor whine. It was lower than before but still obvious in quiet rooms. I am returning it for a refund and will wait a month or so before ordering again. Maybe I will get the 17".

Good luck with it! I still haven't heard from Apple about the status of my MBP. It's been over a week :(

I keep checking the website but it says "part on order." I am assuming the logic board. I am going to give them a ring tommorow because this is getting ridiculous. I can't function without my damn laptop!

Any update on your repair? Mine went in on Monday (took it to the Apple store on Friday actually) and a part was "on order" until today but now it's pending shipping back to me. So about a week for the repair.

No updates! Can you believe it?

I sent it in the 14th and it is still pending an order for a "part." This is absurd =/

I got mine back today from a repair-the-whine repair. Guess what - it still has the whine. I can't live with it - it's so annoying! I'm on the phone to apple now demanding either an iMac replacement or a brand spanking NEW MBP.

At least I would be if the guy from apple had actualy called back when he said he would... Oh well - once more unto the breach...

I have heard that the latest revision of the MB on the 17" has resolved the issue. You may want to see if you can return it for another MBP. If it is true that the 17" has the issue resolved, my guess is that a new 15" may have a new motherboard revision fixing the whine.

I have a 17" on order and will let you know if the whine is gone. HOwever, I won't be getting it until May 15th or so.

I called Apple yesterday, and chatted with a rep for ages about the whine. Mine is pretty strong I must admit, and unusable without the fixes. It kills my battery as well though. He said, that the whine was a known issue (I repeatedly asked, if he was sure it was the CPU idle whine, and not the screen buzz) and that I would need to get it fixed. He said that my serial number matched the ones with the issue.

I thought they were supposed to say it was within spec??
Has anyone had their MBPs succesfully repaired?

Well i've sorted it out at last - I'm gonna exchange my mbp instore for either another mbp (I'll ask if I can be in a quiet room with it for a min to see if the noise is there!) or an iMac if I can get it...

Also where can I find a list of the serial numbers and what revs they are?

You don't want to consider ditching it and getting the 17" instead?

My 17" MBP was a $100 cheaper than the 15" MBP I returned ...

crucial difference - I didn't max out the 15", just got the most basic (and later upgraded to 1.5gb)

How did that work out? I'll go for the 17" if that is the case...

I had a maxed out 15". 2.16, 2 gigs, 7200 rpm 100 gig drive and Applecare.

The 17" one I ordered was 2.16, 2 gigs, 5600 120 gig drive and Applecare.

This config was $100 cheaper than the old one

**UPDATE**

Finally received my Macbook Pro back after waiting over 2 1/2 weeks. It's amazing how you call in to complain and suddenly your macbook pro ships out next day and all repairs are done.

Anyways:

1) They installed a new thermal model w/ temp sensor - My MBP is now running much cooler.

2) They replaced my keyboard with a worse one. All the buttons on the right are misaligned. I'll take a picture to show you guys what I mean. G-d, I really don't want to send it in again.

3) The CPU whine is still there.

4) They put in a new battery, still getting the same amount of battery life though. 2:40 on a full charge =(

5) Speaker distortion seems to have gone away

Ugh... at least it runs cooler?

Out of curiosity, is that with the screen brightness turned all the way up?

Which week was yours manufactured?

I'd demand either a refund or replacement at least - get the latest rev

I will definitely complain tommorow. I also noticed that they did NOT put in a new battery. They just put on a sticker to make it seem like it's a new battery when in fact I know it was mine (serial number + fingerprint mark I left).
