I messaged Apple via the Apple Store App and they said nothing looked weird on their end and my UPS label hasn’t even been created yet.
Next year I’m going in store.
Last year, my pre-order for my 256GB iPhone 8+ ended up being WEEKS late, shipped directly from China. I could have easily gone in launch day to get an 8+ 256GB. I swore I'd never pre-order again. Of course, I didn't hold to that promise, especially when I got that handy dandy "pre-approve your Apple Upgrade Plan phone!" email.
Since my wife and I are planning on keeping our Xs MAX phones for 2+ years, definitely going to be waiting till all this madness is over and then upgrading in store. I'm not mad, but why preorder? Seems pointless to me. I'd gladly pay for shipping if it meant I'd get my device in a reasonable amount of time.
Maybe it's my Amazon Prime bias but it sure takes Apple awhile to get online orders to you.

Apple offers free 2 day shipping without having to pay $130 a year for membership.. this is only a problem during preorder time.

I've had the fortune to be able to receive all my previous preorder iPhones on launch day (last year was a little frustrating due to activation issues, but still got it on 11/3) until this time. If I knew I was going to end up preordering again I would've just stayed up to order for a pickup on launch day -- I really thought this year was going to be the year I keep my phone for 1+ years. (Long story short, I didn't think it was worth upgrading from X, and then my husband wanted to upgrade to my X from his 7 Plus, so I'm on his 7 Plus now and seriously wanting to go back to X or higher)
It's really frustrating not getting on launch day or on the day you decide to buy it! I can't even cancel because it's an upgrade on DPP
Out for delivery, just got home and I'm sitting here not moving a muscle till I hear the door.

I just chatted with Apple just to see what they'd say about it being stuck in ZhengZhou. My Apple account says it'll be delivered tomorrow. The lady I chatted with says she shows it being delivered on the 28th.
I don't know how my account says tomorrow and she shows a different date. Just gonna have to ride it out and it'll come when it does.

I just contacted UPS and they told me I will just have to wait for tomorrow to pass and see if it gets scanned somewhere?
I am so confused! When are we going to get our phones?
Interesting... My original delivery date from Apple was Oct 1-8, and then when I got the shipping notification it changed to Sep 28. Once UPS updated to Sep 25 Apple order status page changed to that date as well. Wondering if there's some kind of a mixup...
This will be the first time since iPhone 3GS that I've gotten mine early or even by the "promise" date. I feel lucky!
I am in the same position as you and BigMcGuire. Stuck in ZZ, had your same delivery dates, changed to Sept 26th once, now back to the 28th. But zero movement since Saturday. It sounds like the three of us might be on the same pallet.
Since I'm an impatient person I contacted Apple support as well for any updates on tracking, and they told me that "this happens a lot" and "overseas shipments take longer to update with UPS for some reason", and that "they usually update overnight right before the delivery date". This gives me some hope but I'm trying not to put too much weight on it!
Count me in the stuck in ZZ as well with 9/21 10:33pm Departure & 11pm Arrival. UPS first had delivery date of tomorrow 9/25. Now it just says Scheduled Delivery Information Not Available, Check Back Later. Been saying that for days now. At one point, my Apple account mirrored the 9/25 UPS date, now that date is gone and it just days delivers 9/28-10/5 which was the original estimate. But Apple account still shows shipped 9/21! This all seems very strange.
What sucks about all of this is I know (because I called and asked) that all the carrier stores in town have stock and are getting shipments daily but I can’t cancel my Apple order to just go get one
I feel you.. all Apple Stores around me show every iPhone model in stock for immediate pick-up, but I can't cancel my Apple order because it's an upgrade on a DPP so unless I'm paying outright and forgoing the upgrade, I can't cancel until the phone is actually here. At that point why would I get a new phone from an Apple Store. I have the money to pay outright but spacing it out over time makes it easier to afford other things in the near future.
Wife's phone just arrived. Very disappointed there is STILL no news/change on my phone even though it was less than a day behind my wife's phone to ZZ and ordered first too.
