I think a 24 year-between-charges battery would probably involve plutonium...

Nah, this would cut into future sales if they did this. Keeping a weak battery year to year, slowly giving a little more capacity keeps them selling watches.
If they offered a 2+ day battery, less people would see need to buy a new watch every year.

with phone nearby? With cellular I lose 25% on workout/h

No this was with the watch on cellular.

I am getting more and more impressed with the battery life as I use this watch. I went to bed with it at 100% and it was 87% this morning. A quick charge in the car topped it, and 4 hours later it was around 90%. My series 5 would drain 20-25% in the same 4 hours. I feel like this watch is going to be fine on a daily basis (sleep tracking included) with charging it in the car during my commute (1 hour total). My series 5 needed another top off charge before bed to keep it going for sleep tracking.

yeah you are right I’m really impressed. Today I’m averaging 3.5%/h with a 1:25h workout (connected to iPhone) and I did at least 10 Spo2 measurements. Charged it up at 7:30 am and now 7:20 pm still 57% left

Took my watch off the charger at 8:31pm last night. Same settings as previously noted with the addition of battery grapher monitoring battery usage and WaterMinder now sending regular notifications.

My wife opened her 40mm at 80% yesterday at about 5pm. At this point she's sitting at 43%. Battery life for the 40mm is insane!

I've been popping mine on my charger too much (just did now for the 7.0.1 update) but during my run yesterday I only lost 6% when I'd normally be at 85% or lower. -- And I did 2 calls and I streamed music for a song or two. :p

The biggest difference for me right now, is not having a watch face with complications. That will save some battery. I decided (for now) to keep the apps I want running in the dock instead.

So far I'm really happy with the battery life. Sleep seems a tad better than my S5 for the 44mm :D.

Maybe try changing the complications or switching to a simple face for a few days. I am using the Infograph full of complications but all of mine are Apple complications so likely optimised for WatchOS 7 / S7. There is always a chance that a 3rd party complication is not optimised for WatchOS 7 and could somehow be draining battery.
So I “only” got about 24 hours with about 11% remaining again today. I’m going to try turning off everything that wasn’t on my Series 5 under watchOS 6. In addition I’ve removed all 3rd party apps except 2: Duo which i need to log into various websites as a 2nd factor and Geneva Moon since it is a watchOS only app which means i’d have to go find again in the app store to restore. Not a big deal but it is very unlikely to hit my battery if it isn’t in the dock or in a complication.

I’ve also removed all but 2 very simple faces: California & Utility. Sleep tracking is off and so is Blood Oxygen monitoring.

This should be interesting. I would expect to get more battery life than my Series 5 under watchOS 6 Which was consistently over 36 hours.

Preliminary results of my experiment. It is now 21 hours and 20 minutes after a full charge. My watch just hit 50%. This shows with many of the new Series 6 and watchOS 7 features turned off, I can get better than Series 5 battery life. This makes me happy.

The fact that I can probably get over 40 hours says the problem is software related which is easy enough to work around. Next step is to find out what is causing the battery drain.

After full charge today, 5 AM, it is now 5 PM and I have 72% battery left. Unknown if this would improve over time, but I’m happy. Couple of phone calls made, use the blood oxygen app twice, and I use the heart monitor twice. Not too heavy on anything else. I will see what it looks like at 5 AM tomorrow morning

It all depends on the 3rd party apps and the complications being used and the background refresh... has anyone tested with a stock watch, with no 3rd party apps installed?

My test in the first post was all stock complications and apps running in the background. However, 3rd party apps were installed but never accessed.

Just over 36 hours of use on a single charge. Putting the watch back on the charger now. Getting great battery life doesn’t mean having to turn most functions off. As stated before, all my settings are on, along with background app refresh for all apps.

See my post above. I was getting pretty mediocre battery life with a new Series 6. I removed all but 2 third party apps. Didn’t have either in the dock or as complications. I got very good battery life after that. Working now to figure out what was causing the battery drain.

I’ve swapped for a SS model with cellular and will do a test of that shortly (no active data plan).

Interestingly, with the new watch and charging puck, it’s taken an hour to reach 50% battery (vs 30min on the Aluminum GPS model).

The charge rate is very slightly faster (0.47-0.48A vs 0.46A on the Alu model) - perhaps due to the puck materials, but the charging is taking more ‘breaks’ where the charge rate goes to 0. I wonder if heat dissipation is not as good with the Steel models...

What made you want to go big time with SS?

40mm S6 cellular but no data plan so that switched off (I assume).

1st full day 100% charge down to 18% after approx 17.75 hours use.

Usage? My first ever full day with an Apple Watch so virtually constant fiddling with screen, tweaking clock faces on iPhone & pushing them down to my S6. Adding and deleting apps. Re-arranging the app launcher icons. Multiple ECGs, multiple explicit blood ox readings plus set to take automatic blood ox readings. 1 x 1.5 hour outdoor walk. 1 x Breathe session. Brightness default. Various notifications & a couple of Applepay payments. iPhone 11 Pro Max within 1m of Watch the whole time.

I'd honestly say that with all my fiddling I was probably physically interacting with the watch for a solid 4 hours split over the whole day if not more so I'm pretty happy with the battery life. I suspect that when I learn to ignore my new toy and use it as intended I'll probably be at something like 50% battery remaining by the end of the day but that's not goingto be today because I'm still having all sorts of new ideas about how I want to set up the clock faces, complications dock and main app launcher. I love this thing!
Update on the above. Same basic setup as above and still maybe 30 mins of extra unnecessary hands-on fiddling with the interface just because it's still a novelty for me. Apart from that about 1.0 hour workout tracking per day, maybe 1 EGC and a couple of manually taken blood-ox readings in addition to the automatic ones. No fancy third-party complications installed (unless you count Shazam) although I do have 19 complications installed across 4 watch faces. I assume that if a face is not active its complications don't add to battery draw so I only have 4 complications on my main face which is what is on screen 99.something % of the time. Brightness has not been changed from the out-of-box default.

The last couple of days have been about 16 hours from putting my watch on in the morning to putting it back on the charger before getting into bed (I don't use sleep tracking). I finished the day at 53% on Friday and 48% last night.

It's sad to hear that some people are unhappy with their battery results, I can understand the frustration because when it comes to my iPhone I'm still of the opinion that I can't have too much battery life and am constantly wanting more from Apple each year, but for the Apple watch I have to say that I'm really perfectly happy with my battery life.

Haha, I had the SS model in the very first Apple Watch... before they had Series. When I was at the Apple Store I realized that I missed the look so figured I would give it a shot again. Honestly, I’m still trying to decide, but I’m comforted by the 2 week return policy in case I change my mind.

My series 6 (40mm) is far surpassing my Series 6 (40mm) - it was worth the upgrade for this battery life. I upgraded because I wanted to move from silver SS to a gold SS model. I never would have believed the battery would last so much longer. I do charge every night. It's just my routine since Series 0. I never sleep with a watch on....

Give sleep tracking a try. :) Get a comfy band and you won’t even remember you have a watch on. The solo and braided loops are comfy indeed.

Pretty obvious from the context I think but for avoidance of doubt I assume that is a typo and should have read “My series 6 (40mm) is far surpassing my Series 5 (40mm)”. is my assumption correct?
