Interestingly, my S6 rebooted halfway thru the walk when I was changing podcasts in the Outcast app. Full on Apple screen reboot. Then picked right up in the Workout app where it'd left off -- didn't lose the workout or any (apparent) data since I'd stopped walking while fiddling with the Outcast app.

Good to know. I'm sure it'll get sorted out.

(and no, it's not ideal, would prefer Apple get this stuff right before releasing, but I've also suffered through some pretty buggy Garmin running watch software releases in the past)

I noticed something last weekend and again last night/ this morning. If I put my watch on the charger before I go to bed during week nights around 10:30 or 11PM. During those time I take it off the charger at like 7:00 or 7:15AM and the battery starts to drain within mins of being off the charger.

But last night I forgot to put my watch on the charger and just happened to wake up around 4AM to get some water. I noticed it was off the charger and put it on before I went back to sleep. Took it off the charger around 7:20 AM before heading to work and notice the battery isn't draining like it normally does.

That same thing happened over the weekend and the battery life was insane. I took it off charger last Saturday around 10AM and around 9:30 or 10PM it had only had dropped 5% battery or so still was at 95%.

Sounds like a calibration issue of some sort. I’ve had that happen on the S5 and every time I would find that when the watch hit ~30% it would die. There are a number of threads on Reddit and apple forums on how to fix it - or just leave as is if it doesn’t bug you :).

40mm. Everything on still. No workouts or GPS use, though. Just hit 10% mark.

50-hours between charges this time. 40mm Aluminium S6 on latest OS7.x

Charged overnight Tuesday night & worn all day Weds / Weds night / Thurs / Thurs night. Now on charge Friday AM when it hit 10%

  • Sedentary & dull week - two very long work days sat at home desk on computer & calls
  • Short tracked Workout Weds night
  • sleep tracking & AOD turned off
  • Mostly just Calendar alerts for Zoom meetings & a few Gumtree notifications

Actually I was mistaken the battery is pretty much the same. After I let it drain completely it seems to be better.

I’ve never let i run out but so far I think the best I’ve managed is 40 % left after 24 hours.

I charged it to 100 % at about 20:00. Then wore it to bed (sleep mode with built in sleep tracking). After this I had a normal work day, no work out, reciving both notifications and messages (with some replys). This is my first AW so I still fiddle alot with it.

When doing work outs (I mostly run), I do so with only AW, playing music to my AirPods (locally stored on the watch) I lose about 15-20 % in one run (roughly 1h) using default work out app (but it’s roughly the same with Runkeeper). But I get most of that back when I charge the AW while showering.

I have a AW6 Ti 44 mm

Thank you for pointing out that we all have the same hardware. That is exactly the purpose of this thread, to compare how long the S6 lasts for different people (see title).

Based on your above comments, I am not sure if you are saying that "light" usage is what is leading to the outcomes (by the way, that was someone else and not me, but my usage is probably also light by your definition); or that I (or others) are just lying about how we use the watch. The former is fine, the latter is inappropriate.

In any case, we would all appreciate if you contributed to the results that are being shared. What kind of battery life are you getting with your S6?
Are you worried about the battery life? It's insufficient.
If you need to bring your charger with you when you go away for a weekend; It's insufficient.
If you switch off functions to make the battery last longer; It's insufficient.
If one of the longest threads on the Apple Watch forum is about battery life; It's insufficient.

If everything in life leads to an insufficient battery life; Buy a Garmin

I usually end the day with ~35% battery left. I believe the only time I’ve seen it drop below that was the first day when it hit mid-20s, but this was to be expected on day one. Hope this helps.

Just to update this, the past two days I've had over 60% left. Seems to be on track for similar today. Not sure what caused such big difference, my usage hasn't changed. Perhaps the watch was still "learning" my habits.

Yep - if the ability to avoid carrying a 0.3m watch puck in your travel kit is more important than the substantially better phone/ecosystem integration, and one doesn't mind the poor screens(*), then yes go buy a Garmin.

@Vjosullivan - speaking for myself - I don't worry about battery since it lasts all day, I brought my Garmin charger when away for the weekends too since GPS&HR does use a bunch of battery, and I don't have any functions turned off on my Apple Watch. Battery discussions seem to always flare up around a major watchOS release then settle down as folks apps quit misbehaving and OS bugs get fixed. Battery thread barely made the top 20.

Good thing there's other options and folks can find a watch suited to their needs.

(*) Garmin *finally* released a decent display with the Venu, though you still can't do something as basic as respond/acknowledge a text or answer a phone call from the watch when your phone is across the house.

I've added more data to the first post. Results are fairly consistent at this point. WatchOS 7.0.1 doesn't seem to have any material impact.

Seems like Apple forgot the disclaimer "Fast Charging not available in the tropics". I'll be keeping an ice pack in the freezer to put next to my AW while charging.

Battery life has been more than decent on my 44mm when using the watch, is it normal to lose 26 percent in 16 hours while the watch is sitting on my desk in standby mode?

Even have the bedside table feature turned off, background app refresh is also turned off.

Received the watch just under 2 days ago maybe its still doing its thing in the background.

I’ve owned an Apple Watch since the original and I honestly don’t know if that is normal. Either the watch is on my wrist or it is on its charger. I’ve never experimented with the watch just sitting idle for any length of time. I might have to check just out of curiosity.

So I just wanted to follow up with my battery drain saga. Last week after I unpaired and re paired the battery improved but, shortly after, it went back to draining. I unpaired a couple more times until yesterday I tried something new. I had been noticing for over a year issues with reminders not syncing between the watch and the iPhone. It got a little better at first with the new S6 watch but quickly went back to problems.

So yesterday I took the extreme test and erased all my reminders, turned off iCloud for reminders, deleted all iCloud reminder data and unpaired the watch. After I paired the watch and turned on iCloud for reminders, confirmed all reminders were at zero. I then re input all my reminders, about 23. Miraculously everything synced perfectly and in addition, battery drain was gone! As an example my watch says over 4 hours of standby with an hour of usage and 91% battery. I was usually at about 50% by now with the same activity. So maybe all these years since the Series 0 accumulating completed reminders was forcing the watch to work too hard. In any event, just a data point to review in your quest for better battery. I’ve gone ahead and turned everything back on with no issues as well. Hope this helps...

For me battery is no problem. My day starts at 6 am and I wear the watch overnight. It goes down to 95% and when I'm at work I charge it at around 10 am for 20-30 min back to 100%. After that I wear it all day incl. 2h workout. I put it back on the charger at 8 pm (because then I watch TV and don't need the watch) and yeah when I go to sleep its back to 100%. Battery is so good it will probably hold all day even with one charge before bed =)

On 7.0.1 with my Aluminum GPS S6 44mm, I usually have around 40% remaining after ~16 hours of use. This is with a daily workout (always bring my phone with me, so my watch doesn't use GPS), AOD on, handwashing detection and reminders, loud noise notifications, and fall detection on. Listen for "Hey Siri" and Raise to Speak have been off.

For comparison, my Aluminum GPS S3 42mm usually had around 60-70% remaining after ~16 hours of use on WatchOS <7. Also had the daily workout with a phone, and "Hey Siri" and Raise to Speak off, but no AOD, handwashing, loud noise, or fall detection since those features weren't available.

We'll see if this improves with 7.0.2, although I suspect not. I'm a little bummed out that the battery usage of these additional features, while nice, is not offset with the use of a more efficient processor and bigger battery (bigger chasis + more space for battery due to loss of force touch module).

@Capeto - there was a drop from S3 to S4, partly due to the increased screen size as I recall. Perhaps battery too, I don't remember and don't feel like digging up the teardown. In any event, the S3 is probably the benchmark against which no current generation watches will compare favorably. Apple seems to stand by their 18-hours target, even if they exceeded it more with the S3 than with more recent models. IMHO anyone considering an Apple Watch should expect to charge it every day.

Also - fwiw - the S6 battery *is* a slightly higher capacity battery than was in the Series5, and the case is slightly thinner. See the ifixit teardowns.

Apple must of done something right with watchOS 7.0.2, watch has been sitting on my desk for 5 hours, used it briefly for 15 minutes in the morning, still on 99 percent.🤔

I was losing 20 percent if not more in the last couple of days on 7.0.1, the watch was just sitting there doing nothing.

Now hurry up and ship my charcoal sport loop band so I can wear the watch around the house. 🥺👀⌚️
