I'll stick with my 5s and Canon EOS 20d (photo attached) from 2005.
But I will say that I don't know any other phones that can compete with the picture quality of the 7+.

Is that a Rat terrier?
Coming from someone who shoots primarily on a Sony A7 with a multitude of fast Zeiss prime glass, I have to say i'm really quite impressed with the Portrait effect on the 7+. Here's a quick snap I took earlier on (the fall off from the in-focus area and "bokeh" seems quite natural):
Honestly, with my 6s+, I feel like I can get shots pretty close to what some of these pics posted look like at least for close up shots.

You can, and you're exactly right. Subject close, background far away is always going to produce an out of focus background. That's just basic optics 101.
I don't think any of the posted shots look remarkable in any way.

I would spend less time buying "fast Zeiss glass", more time not placing the subject with a pan growing out of his head.
Night and day difference.
The background is like 10ft away in your photo, in most of the others it's like 100 yards plus.
Hence why I didn't even respond....Yet another one of those over-critical people here whose expectations seems to be for the 7 Plus to match a proper dSLR or PnS before it can be considered impressive.
Please scroll back to older posts. This depth effect is not to replace or rival dSLR. It's for the iPhone to be one of the, if not the, best smartphone camera out there.
And another thing to bear in mind, this is just BETA 1.
I have been quite impressed with this. It's often not perfect with edges etc. But it can give an amazing effect considering it is from a smartphone.
I'm really disappointed. Sure in a 1x1" preview image it looks fantastic, but even on Instagram you can clearly see edges where the software is blurring the image, often blurring things it shouldn't be and vice versa.
