Did you do Bernie Sanders yet?

BTW, very interesting to see the differences between the Trump picture and the ones you did with Procreate. I'm guessing Procreate has more brush styles and color control? Also, I think your technique improved from Clinton to this Cruz one. But I think Clinton is more expressive -- is it that you have a better feel for her personality?

Yeah the trump one was the result of several things, namely not having drawn much of anything in a while and having no plan of attack! But I did like the sort of ink pen brush medibang had. So I ended up with that sort of cartoony look.

I made a more concerted effort with procreate to rely less on outlines (although I cheated with Cruz and left it on a low opacity to hint at some details).

I agree Clinton seems to have turned out the best, which I chock up to dumb luck more than anything! My approach to all of them is to find a reference of them making a ridiculous face and just seeing what happens :p

Kinda tempted to push myself and try to add more caricature with Bernie. It's fun learning the tools, but i imagine it'll be more fun to interject some creativity rather than just try to replicate a reference.

I love cats, and I started drawing cats like this way(realistic) when I got 12.9" Pro on digital form. I use procreate, and now I'm doing much better just because now I know what kind of brushes give me the effects or results I want to have.
For digital art, it's one of important points that you know brushes and which one gives you what you want.

My very first digital cats drawing/eye drawing were like bellow ;

You can see how much I got used to now from there, right? :)

I didn't like Adobe sketch/Adobe draw as much as Procreate. It(Procreate) is a paid app but you can have so many brushes at start already, easy to learn, I highly recommend it.

Drawing is fun. Not necessary things have to be like real shape/colors when you draw them.
This thread, there are lot of skilled artist, from newbies to expert, great thing to add is all those people are nice here and willing to help if they can!

I can't find my first photoshop drawing, most of you guys gonna laugh if you see it lol
I'll post it later if I can find it on my Facebook lol

Just wanted to comment before I forget, that close up on the cat eye is phenomenal and inspirational :)

Just wondering, under devices in procreate there's no option to select the Apple Pencil. What does everyone have selected. I'm asking, because there is a huge difference in drawing with my finger vs pencil e.g. (Some brushes seem to be more pressure sensitive)

You don't have to select the pencil in Procreate. Procrate automatically knows it is there once it is paired with the iPad.

To me, Bernie looks like a caricature even without any embellishments, if you see what I mean? :D

Hope you do draw him, it'd be fun to see what you come up with!

I don't think there's the need of selection Apple Pencil on Procreate. When you connect your Pencil first time to your iPad Pro, it's already recognizing the device.
There will be difference between drawing with your finger and Apple Pencil/other kind of stylus, because screen catching the pressure. On finger drawing, usually color shows up more strongly and lines wider.

I've not done any drawing since I was at school almost 20 years ago, but the Apple Pencil has inspired me to try and get back into it. Here's my first attempt at Lego Darth Vader...!

Very impressed with the pencil overall, and the Procreate app is insanely great.

I know it does. But if you look in the device selection it just says 'none', whereas other pencils are in the list (like the pencil 53, Wacom, etc.)
It confused me a bit.

has anyone learned how to adjust the tilt settings in procreate? i find it to be difficult to control the size accurately. its always to big or to small. i would like to make it more linear, IE; less on and off, like it came from the factory, i find it to be a useless right now. thanks for any tips.

couple of quick life drawings sketches from last night. done from a live model. one is 5 min, the other is a 15 mins timed session. i could take these farther, but i just do them as training for my painting practice. Life drawing (from model or plein air painting) is a good way to learn how to draw! surprisingly its much harder than copying photo's. our eyes can see values much better than the camera. also, when copying a photo, the camera has done allot of the work for you, concerning foreshortening, and composition. the camera is a great tool, but i try to not let it become a crutch. i noticed a few years ago that being a slave to the camera will limit my ability to draw from my imagination.

i have a couple of paintings that are almost done, ill post those soon!

Keep up the good work everyone, this thread is always inspirational. its so nice to see everyone's digital artwork.

Bernie is always pointing to something to his right that only he can see :)

Single biggest frustration I keep running into in procreate is that I start painting on the wrong layer!

I can't contribute, I'm a photographer, not a painter/sketches/ etc. but I'm trying to learn to draw and I thought the pro would be a nice way go go...I know it's not typically recommended to learn digitally but what the heck, seems like procreate is a fairly good tool for what I need, ultimately I'll wind up digitally anyway. I just wish I had a Mac desktop to use the Astropad program, or Windows had a similar.. Anyway I wanted to say thanks for everyone sharing.. Some good stuff here, showing me I have a long way to go but also that everyone should try - and practice -etc. so thanks for the thread.

I need to find a pro photography thread or start one,

I don't know details of everyone's life here, but what I kinda know is many of us here posting our drawings are even not painters, most of us enjoy drawing as our hobby.
So, if you like to draw, want to learn to draw, this thread is still kinda right place for you!
I was drawing on my Mac by using Adobe Illustrator, and little bit of Adobe Photoshop, but since I hadn't found any great tablet/stylus setting until I met iPad Pro 12.9" and Apple Pencil, I started drawing on iPad more and really am into it :)

Procreate is great App, I think there're so many things that App can do but I don't think I use them all very useful way yet. It's new App to me, just few months from the time I started to use it.
This thread is about sharing your drawing, but also I see some people very good about tech, knowledgeable about computer related things, they know a lot. And most of people here are friendly and helpful.

I hope you come back some point and can show us your progress! :)

I think iPad is a good tool to learn on. The biggest Issue I have noticed with my digital art, is overreliance on the ability to undo. Confident line work and brush strokes usually leave a more powerful impression. My art teachers jokingly say every artist should have someone standing beside them, to tell the artist when to stop. We tend to over render things., or not see interesting marks media can leave naturally. Most beginners smudge too much with hands. It's a fine line. I find It's much easier for me to develop confidence with traditional media. I usually do life drawing weekly with pen and ink to counteract this issue in my digital work. You can't erase ink. It's Nice to keep a balance.

I think photography has helped me become a better artist. Composition matters so much in all visual arts. The camera allows me to not worry about rendering details, and just focus on composition. It's my favorite hobby.

Learning to draw is really just learning to see, not allowing our brains to take over and fill in the blanks. I bet it might help improve your photography. I run a life drawing class, and many seniors benifit from improved memory. I bet it helps all ages in some way or another.

Start that photography thread! I edit RAW sometimes on my iPad Pro. It would be cool to get more people into iPad Pro photography editing. We might benefit from better apps and even color calibration eventually

That Bernie Sanders is right on! Love It. I myself have the same problem on a painting I've been working on a few weeks, I find I forget to switch layers. I use to be a CAD designer, so I know layers and should be better, but it's been years. I'm slowly learning that if I make mistakes by painting or drawing on wrong layers, I've been able to merge the layers to make it right. Depends on what you are drawing and how you are adding to the layer which is wrong. It's worked for me a couple of times.

I can't believe you drew that model in 15 minutes Danijoy. That's what I need to do is become faster, I tend to get lost in my work and spend too much time trying to be perfect. I guess I'm a perfectionist! LOL. I do agree, I find myself correcting stuff too easily on the digital aspect of drawing.

Thanks for the detailed response, very helpful..

I like your analogy about learning to draw is learning to see - photography is learning to understand shadows - not necessarily light. I believe that's one thing which will help me learn to draw. Overall my photography technically is sound - right now I'm at a stand still a it as I had double spinal surgery and I have another coming - then brain surgery probably... So aside from physical therapy and rehabbing I won't get out much. Plus it's already passing 100F here which means very long days, very poor golden hours - that said I have a few thousand shots to develop. I don't rely on photoshop as a digital artist. I am a more traditional photographer from the way I shoot to the way I develop. For example I shoot weddings in the style of a 1960s photo journalist. Fixed range , usually 35mm, up close, zone focusing , so I set to 6 ft and step to range - composition is the only factor in that kind of shooting - So I believe that too may help me.

As I have the Adobe photographer membership I'm also using their sketching tool (sorry the name escapes me right now) I'm curious as they present the ability to trace an underlying image if that may be a valid way. What I've been doing is tracing the overall line stuff and then considering what I'd see were I shooting the photo again - how the shadows lie, etc.

I use my spyder calibrator to at least get a color pure app to present - and double check, and I'm just starting to use filterstorm neue pro - having used the original filterstorm pro as it offers proper raw and good resolution exports.

Sorry to pollute the thread if anyone feels I have - there's some crossover here and I really appreciate all the stuff being posted!

I'd love to be able to do life drawing stuff - maybe I can learn by attempting to recreate shots I've taken
Thanks again everyone!

Looking to do up our back yard so here are a couple of quick concept sketches I did on my new 9.7 pro. I had the 12.9 at first but love drawing on the smaller pro as well, it's prefect, the 12.9 was just a lititle too big too lug around when on jobs but the screen was good

Hey what did you use for this, kinda looks like paper by 53?

Btw All I ordered this, yah it's $10 and probably there'll be a Chinese one for a buck but they deserve it for getting it out so fast. This should have been included with the pencil.

I've been doing some drawing and painting over the last few years, mostly small canvases.
I was a happy iPad Air owner for a long time, used it every day. I also got 53's pencil but I still felt limited drawing on the iPad, the accuracy was lacking too much for me.

When the Pro and the pencil were announced I was intrigued but I was pretty sure I didn't want a bigger iPad. I liked the size of the Air. The idea of a bigger canvas to draw on didn't change that, I have always been more into small work.

So when rumors started about the next 9.7" iPad being a Pro with pencil support I was getting eager. I had been frustrated with one thing on the Air, I had the 32gb version and with the photo editing and such I wanted to do it wasn't enough, I always ran out of space. I had almost gotten the 16gb, imagine! Thankfully it was out of stock everywhere at the time. So I had been eyeing the 128gb models but if I was going to upgrade I wanted something more out of it.

I ordered the Pro 9.7 as soon as it became available here (pre order on the 29th, delivery April 4).

And now here's my first attempt in procreate. I had the app already but hadn't really given it a good try before.
