Sprung for procreate yesterday. Definitely more responsive than medibang. :)

Biggest challenge with procreate so far is they hide a lot of its functionality (I appreciate why, compared to the cluttered medibang workspace!). Theres just more of a learning curve at the start.

Also curious if many people have opted for a textured screen protector to make for a more natural drawing surface. I certainly think I can adapt to the smooth surface, but I thought I'd find out what others tended to do.

Oh and finally, I was drawing in procreate last night for about an hour (on very low brightness I might add), and it used about a quarter of my battery. Does that seem normal?

The pencil kills battery life.

Lately my work killing my life and I'm exhausted, but after 2 hours over time, drawing to let my mind release and flow makes me feel better.

On Procreate.

I'm terribly out of practice.

Did this using medibang paint. I've noticed it has a bit of delay and sometimes does weird things (canvas jumps all over when you pan/zoom, sometimes the tools simply stop working. Force quitting the app temporarily fixes most issues). Anyway, will procreate likely be a better experience?

Ah, the next president of the Unites States :D.
Just kidding. Your drawing looks good.

I've got ideas, but I don't know how to execute them yet.
No idea what brushes and settings to use, is my main problem.
This was my first attempt in procreate (work in progress) and I'm a bit embarrassed :-/
Guess it will be a lot of trial and error for me.
I'm still amazed what other people come up with and how well they use the tools.

I know the feeling, I've watched a couple YouTube vids of people showing their process. Ultimately everyone has their own style and you find what works best for you, but it can be interesting to see how others work :)

The little one. I liked the idea of a little sketch pad I could take with me places. :)
Just trying to imagine actually drawing on the smaller iPad....I like the true tone feature, but I like the screen real estate of the larger version (not so much the weight). Also the cameras don't matter, and yet I'm still struggling to decide between the two.

I tend to draw smaller anyway which made it easier for me. And I'm stuck in a chair with a broken ankle for another 7 weeks yet, so I appreciate something easy to wield while reclined!

But I have noticed sometimes the palm gets read not as a stroke but a multitouch canvas zoom/rotate. I wonder if it's because it's partially on the edge of the smaller screen that it gets misinterpreted. Can any 12.9 users speak to that issue happening to them?

Also, keeping a little reference layer onscreen while drawing gets a little cramped on the 9.7.

I like the form factor in concept (and for my budget!) but I bet the bigger tablet is a better creative workspace overall.

My case is kinda funny. I was long time wanting iPad which works with like Apple Pencil. When iPad Pro 12.9" came out, I was hesitated until very last moment just before the reservation started after midnight.
Only reason I was interested into getting 12,9" Pro was Apple Pencil, and I wished if it's bit smaller like 9.7".

After I picked mine up on the day of it came out, first my impression was "Geez it's HUGE!"
After few days of use of it, I completely understood, why that size was set as 12.9". That was just the right and comfortable size to draw. You don't need to pinch and spread and that's actually similar to usual paper size.
And split screen mode is convenient. I sometimes draw by watching pictures as reference. And then I use split screen mode, half size of 12.9" is almost equal as iPad mini screen size. It's smaller than 12.9" of curse, but yet workable for short time.
I also compose music on my iPad Pro. Many of those Apps actually much easier to operate on bigger working space.

When 9.7" Pro was announced, I went to go to Apple Store to check how 9.7" iPad size look like, since only another iPad I ever have was iPad mini 4.
It just didn't look like comfortable size to work on drawings to me. And split screen mode totally seemed not usable, just because half of 9.7" screen size is too small.

Although I didn't get 9.7" Pro, if next iPad mini will be released with Apple Pencil support, then I'll buy it.

For me, 9.7" is still big as to go device anyway, carrying 12.9" isn't much different(especially because I don't use attachable keyboard). If both devices anyway can't be so comfortably mobile, I don't have any reason to get 9.7", it seemed 12.9" fit my needs better.
I don't need better camera, I don't take pictures on my iPad and anyway cell phones have much better quality of cameras nowadays.
I don't want true tone display, I want consistent color when I work on digital drawings/edit photos.

So, I decided to stay with 12.9".
I think it totally depends on what that person wants to use it for. 9.7" Pro isn't for everyone, so as 12.9" Pro, and iPad mini.

I agree. Drawing is my way of relaxing and unwinding at night. I'm just curious how long it takes you to draw some of your pics? Great Work by the way. As are most of the drawings on here.

Thanks for such a nice compliment :)

Sometimes I just sit in front of a piece of paper or my iPad, feeling like I'm empty because of too much exhausted feeling and overwhelmed feeling, but I always try and push myself bit harder to stay creative. That kind of days I bit will be struggle to come up with something I want to put myself in, but luckily, I know most of the time I love drawing cats whatever the form :)

Usually my most of work takes me between 2-3 hours to complete. Some of them are really quick one like 20-30 min to 1 hour. Now I so much got used to with Procreate, so things getting easier!

Did you do Bernie Sanders yet?

BTW, very interesting to see the differences between the Trump picture and the ones you did with Procreate. I'm guessing Procreate has more brush styles and color control? Also, I think your technique improved from Clinton to this Cruz one. But I think Clinton is more expressive -- is it that you have a better feel for her personality?

My First posting on here, I have a few pics to show, but these are quicker works. I don't know how all you create these things so fast. I get lost in drawings and take hours, to days, to weeks. The painting I'm working on right now is almost done, but having been working about 3 weeks on it. It's a slow process, but I still am not totally familiar with Procreate. The Cartoony sketches I did quickly using Sketchclub. The Dragon I did tonight on Adobe illustrator Draw after someone mentioning that app above. I do like it though.

I'm going to post my painting, once it's done. Because so detailed and was learning procreate at the time, I take breaks from it, otherwise it gets too intense for me and I'm trying other apps, so I have a bit of Distraction. Also been trying Graphic and Assembly for something different. Speed is what I need to get better at in my opinion. I welcome any criticisms or help on stuff I'm doing wrong. Had some art classes in high school and college, but mostly Drawing has always been a hobby of mine. As long as I can concentrate on it and have the time. I love doing it though. People seem to like my art on Draw Something. I would describe my style as Realism and cartooning. Always loved to do cartooning and drawing dogs is my favorite thing to draw or anything in nature.

I love this. The dragon seems so alive. The contrast between the green and the yellow/orange accents is nice, and the red of the eye is especially effective. I'm looking forward to your other works.

Early stages of some hand lettering I'm playing with at the moment. Used a Pentel brush pen in my sketchbook until I got the letters roughly how I wanted them, then took a photo of the sketchbook page with the iPad, and traced/corrected them in Adobe sketch. Will probably redraw them a bunch of times to make tweaks here and there (definitely getting rid of the Coca Cola style C ) before airdropping to my Mac and doing the final vectors in Illustrator.

First time I've used the iPad on a lettering/logotype project, loving how it fits into my workflow in so many different ways.
