I think I'd really like to try the Pencil.

... and to learn how to draw!

However, I'm really concerned about it scratching the screen?

Has anyone noticed any scratching on their screen, from the Pencil?

Thanks.

I've been using Apple Pencil on my 12.9" Pro since last November. I don't like screen protector, usually it kinda gives me bit of resistance when I draw on it(from my past experience, possibly current expensive ones have better quality), so I use my Apple Pencil directly on my iPad Pro screen. I don't notice any scratches on surface. It's possible that eventually Apple Pencil tip starts getting worse and cause of scratches, but I'll just be careful. Unless you're using everyday continuously for several hours, I don't think it's gonna happen either so easily or so quick.

This cat looks so much like my cat that passed away a year ago. Is it a drawing of a cat you have? I also like the dragon you drew on the iPhone, it's so cute!

Thank you :)
Actually this is my friend's cat and now in heaven as well. My friend really loves this cat, so I drew picture for her. Losing someone(either human or other animals) is tough when that person/animals mean a lot to you. And there is only so much you can say with your words, never enough. As one of artists, this is one of things I was able to do for her to share her sadness.

I had forgotten about this thread. It won't happen again; I'll restart at the beginning. Beautiful work @FairyCatInPink.

If the following is considered out of place, I apologize. One of the things I've admired about Ian Anderson has been his respect for animal life as represented in his lyrics (both in Tull and solo work). This song does so and is dedicated to a lost cat. It's touching and can evoke a tear so extra caution is urged for those who have recently lost a beloved companion.

Planning on buying an Apple Pencil. Don't have an ounce of drawing talent but I'd like to learn. Are there any good apps that teach you? Thanks.

Hey, welcome! :)
You know, I'm so glad lately this thread getting back to be active again, people started posting their drawings/paintings!

This is my personal opinion, so other people may have different suggestions for you.
For me, the best is still Procreate. It's a paid app, but worth for it. There's simple tutorial within the app, and also you can find some free book regarding Procreate on iBooks. This app allows you to create your own brushes too, I figured out how to do it only by using my iPad Pro, you need some more other apps and process is bit complicated(to me it was), but if you need help to do it, I'll show you the way I do :)
On Procreate, you can choose so many brushes at start already, and I like their pencils and charcoals brushes.

I tried but didn't like them much ; Adobe draw and Adobe Sketch.

I like Procreate but I didn't realise there were books available for it. Just downloaded a couple, they look really useful. Thanks.

A brilliant tip (pun intended) for when using the Apple Pencil:
I just found out that you can use the Apple Pencil though a piece of paper, so you can trace stuff!
I knew that primary school education would become of use one day :).
May I suggest another technique: Take a photo and use it in a layer. You can rotate and scale the image and draw on it in a new layer. When yo are done you can remove the image layer.

Love it!

Thanks!

I'm just really concerned about it scratching the screen of this new iPad ...

I'm terribly out of practice.

Did this using medibang paint. I've noticed it has a bit of delay and sometimes does weird things (canvas jumps all over when you pan/zoom, sometimes the tools simply stop working. Force quitting the app temporarily fixes most issues). Anyway, will procreate likely be a better experience?

The squinting chicken from Despicable me 2. Done with Adobe sketch in about 20mins ('don't really have time to doodle around on the iPad when my little one is still up haha). I'm not really good at drawing, would I enjoy procreate?

Yes it will. I don't love Medibang for several reasons. It does have some nice brushes for comics, but Procreate is so much better in every other way (cleaner UI, lower latency,) and is very flexible in creating/ importing new brushes.

Is Procreate the best drawing App with no lag? Or is there anything better?

I haven't found anything better that has such a rich suite of tools and is as powerful than Procreate. I can't remember if Procreate costs anything, I got it so long ago, well before the apple pencil. If it does I've found Adobe Sketch to be really good for just drawing though.

Whatever the cost though, Procreate is worth it.

There's nothing better. But it's import and export options for layered files are very lacking if you want to pair it with Photoshop. One way around it is to copy and paste layers to Pixelmator.

Sprung for procreate yesterday. Definitely more responsive than medibang. :)

Biggest challenge with procreate so far is they hide a lot of its functionality (I appreciate why, compared to the cluttered medibang workspace!). Theres just more of a learning curve at the start.

Also curious if many people have opted for a textured screen protector to make for a more natural drawing surface. I certainly think I can adapt to the smooth surface, but I thought I'd find out what others tended to do.

Oh and finally, I was drawing in procreate last night for about an hour (on very low brightness I might add), and it used about a quarter of my battery. Does that seem normal?

I don't use a textured screen protector, I like the amount of tooth the iPP screen has compared to say the iPhone.

And no that seems to be a lot of battery use. While using the Pencil, I don't typically see battery drain any faster than when using the iPad with a finger (with the exception of Astropad)
