I've been doing some drawing and painting over the last few years, mostly small canvases.
I was a happy iPad Air owner for a long time, used it every day. I also got 53's pencil but I still felt limited drawing on the iPad, the accuracy was lacking too much for me.

When the Pro and the pencil were announced I was intrigued but I was pretty sure I didn't want a bigger iPad. I liked the size of the Air. The idea of a bigger canvas to draw on didn't change that, I have always been more into small work.

So when rumors started about the next 9.7" iPad being a Pro with pencil support I was getting eager. I had been frustrated with one thing on the Air, I had the 32gb version and with the photo editing and such I wanted to do it wasn't enough, I always ran out of space. I had almost gotten the 16gb, imagine! Thankfully it was out of stock everywhere at the time. So I had been eyeing the 128gb models but if I was going to upgrade I wanted something more out of it.

I ordered the Pro 9.7 as soon as it became available here (pre order on the 29th, delivery April 4).

And now here's my first attempt in procreate. I had the app already but hadn't really given it a good try before.

Yeah the smaller size of the 9.7 appealed to me as well for how I tend to work. Ps nice Flickr feed!

Tried to do a landscape and kinda failed, but figured I'd share anyway. Need to experiment more with techniques for rock and vegetation.

View attachment 625939 View from my living room watching a hotel get built. First time doing just a line drawing in Procreate and found it really fun! Just going for it and not worrying about straight lines feels strangely liberating...

Personally I enjoy seeing a bit of wobble in lines, some rough edges brush strokes, etc in art. :) It makes it feel more organic and alive!

Also hope you cope with construction better than me. I had to deal with 10 months of excavation jackhammers starting at 7am for a condo being built across from me last year. *shudders*

This is actually the very first thing I did with Procreate and the Apple Pencil. Terrible haha. But I'm just learning the coloring/painting side of things. Will need to watch some videos. Much better at the sketching part.

Nice start!

I love how easy procreate makes it to save a speed paint video. I'm learning tons from watching them (still have a ways to go to actually emulate them though!)

Love seeing everyone's creations. Quick question about Procreate: can you import an image to trace?

You definitely can! I tend to import images to keep as reference in the corner of the canvas, and move that layer around as needed to keep it out of my way while painting. I wish there was a special way of marking a layer as reference though, so say it could be placed outside the drawing canvas and just generally more easily manipulated.

I appreciate you showing the first picture of your cat FairyCatinPink, Because it shows me a little of how you do your layers. Incredible work as usual. Do you ever make videos of you artwork. I'd love to see your process of how you get those beautiful pics. If you wouldn't mind that is. It can help me learn some new techniques as well as others who may want to learn. I understand if you don't want to though. Great piece, as are all yours.

Thank you :)

I have a video of recording my process for one of my past work, if you don't mind. I've heard that keep recording mode "on" on Procreate use memories, so lately I haven't been using that function.

This video is about 3.5min time lapse, it starts at the moment I'm done very base drawing. After 1.5min there is some "nothing happening" like moment, but if you look carefully, drawing hairs and since those lines are tiny, it's kinda tough to see where that's happening on that time lapse video.

Finished one is this.
This one was my 4th cats eyes series of drawing, so still rough but I do same way/same process now as well.

I had an iPad Air 2 and tried out MANY styli, but ended up sending them back.. Adonit, Pencil 53, Wacom ICS 1 and 2 and so on.. I didn't like any of these! Back to the days when the 12.9" iPad was introduced I always thought that it's WAY too big and too expensive.. So I've waited for the 9.7" with the Apple pencil support.. The 9.7" Pro was introduced and costs 869€ for a 128GB Wifi version, so I ended up buying the 12.9" Pro with 128 GB + Cellular for 900€. And well, I love the big Pro, I love it's size, I barely use my Macbook pro 13 now.

This is my 3rd drawing on the new Pro. I love the pencil!!!

Today's drawing inspired by the rogue one trailer. The likeness / proportions are terrible though :( I may need to bone up on proportion and stuff.

I'd hate to hear what you'd have to say about my stuff if you are dogging yours like that, lol my skills are way below that level, I'm just in this thread to enjoy artwork from people who can actually draw. You sir, are one of them.

Thanks for the kind remarks :)

im hard on myself as a drive to improve, and there are tons of artists where I'm like "how the heck can anyone get that good?!"

I will say just in the week I've had the iPad I think I've made some progress in a hobby I hadn't done much with for some time. Nothing helps quite like doing, and the iPad is a great facilitator and motivator!
