No, look at his smug face. Nothing would get done under him.

So one can tell that "nothing would get done under him" by the expression in a single still photo. And if a different photo were used, with a different expression, that would suggest different managerial skills?

Quite remarkable perceptive and insight skills.

He looks smug at the actual presentations, not just in the photo. And according to many people at Apple, he was unwilling to work with anybody.

The motion sickness is not caused by those animations. It's caused by the parallax effect by itself. iOS 6 had animations too.

The motion sickness from most people's reports seems to be caused by the opening and closing animations not parallax. Reduce Motion turns off parallax - it has no discernible affect on the animations. And yes, iOS 6 had animations too, but they were noticeably different.

Forstall is the one behind the creation of iOS in the first place. He is a very good software engineer. And his history is goes back all the way with steve jobs from NeXT Computers. And iOS skeumorphic design by him is amazing and doesnt look cheap! While jony ive, well he is a good hardware engineer. See the difference? That is the reason why under steve jobs these two people worked in their own expertise.

What I find funny is that for the last couple of iOS updates tons of people on here were complaining that it was the same old iOS as the previous version. Well, now we have a new iOS with some awesome features (that probably should have been there the whole time) and now people are complaining that it's too new. lol

iOS 7 is great IMO. I haven't found anything that I don't like about it...well except that my Walgreens passbook app isn't working anymore. But that's easily fixed by just typing in my phone number at the check out.

That is purely anecdotal. It might as well be different people who were happy with iOS 6. The ones who are happy with iOS 7 now are not the ones complaining after all.

I think there was a widespread feeling that iOS had started to fall behind, despite that Apple continuously touted it as the most advanced mobile OS. When I see what Android devices are capable of nowadays, it manifests those worries. Although iOS retained some of its advantages over Android, that does not answer the question why we cannot have the best of both worlds, or why iOS cannot be better.

To me it seems that iOS 7 is (partly) the response to this. It shows that Apple is capable of revamping its OS enough to actually split its user base. Some see it as leap forward, others as a sign that Apple is still not taking the competition serious enough. In my opinion, iOS did not need such a radical design update, but just more improvements. Of course, design improvements were overdue, most users probably agree. But we are still dealing with annoyances that have been present since iOS 1 and are now dealing with new ones that have become apparent just because of the redesign too. To me the new design is just different, but not necessarily better. I value performance enhancements and new features a lot more, because they improve my user experience.

I don't know what has happened at Apple since Forstall got the sack. I don't know when Federighi and Ive took over and what they have accomplished aside from the redesign. I have the feeling that Apple lost precious time with the overhaul and the resources could have been used better, notably on bug fixing and more structural improvements. I'm not sure whether I would want to have Forstall back, but I do know that the management shake-up has delayed things. And personally, I was happy with iOS myself, although iOS 6 was indeed a bit of a letdown, not to mention to avoidable Maps debacle.

I think the mistake was to remove Forstall's position, not necessarily Forstall himself. Ive thinks too much as a designer, not as a user like Forstall did.

It's not that simple. Maybe he learned his lesson from being fired and would actually improve and build on iOS 7.

He let iOS stagnate and failed to add needed features - control center for example- letting Android catch up.

God bless him in whatever he does next, but it was time.

I appreciate everything that Forstall did for Apple, but it's clear that he ignored Steve Jobs' advice to Apple- don't focus on "what Steve would have done". Forstall was content with the status quo, and though Apple probably could have gone another year without redesigning iOS, nothing leads me to believe that iOS was ever going to see any significant improvements under Forstall. As polarizing as iOS 7 is, I firmly believe that the backlash would be even worse if iOS 7 looked like iOS 6.

And for those of you that still like to say "Steve Jobs would have never approved of this" to ANYTHING Apple does, I've got news for you. It doesn't matter. With all due respect to the legend, Jobs isn't around to give his input or direction. If Tim Cook focuses on what he thinks Steve would have done, then Apple has BlackBerry's future to look forward to.

Watch the iOS 7 keynote, then go back to watch the iOS 6 keynote. He should be fired.

"Maps!" "Shredder animation in Passbook!" "Colour matching status bar!" "Much slower App Store!" "Sports in Siri!" "Facebook!" .......

Why? Are you a fan of leather stitch and green felt? :p

I'd rather have the old design back than this childish iOS 7. I mean seriously, we look ridiculous with that on our phones.

What makes me laugh is that, let's say android made this design for their phones, you guys would be like "LOL who designed this? A 6 year old?" haha

But hey, if Apple made it, it ought to be the nicest thing in the whole universe :apple:

I can think of another dysfunctional turbo-douche whose overbearing ways, narcissism and inability to play well with others led him to be summarily ejected from Apple... only to mature, learn some valuable lessons and ultimately return to lead the company to amazing new heights.

Never say never.

But at this point, Forstall has not pursued achievement elsewhere. It's not clear how he could have learned any real lessons or become seasoned through serious endeavor as Steve Jobs was through his twelve (!) years wandering in the wilderness. Maybe he has, but if I were Tim Cook I'd want to see evidence of lessons learned.

I didn't vote as I didn't see the " maybe in ten years or so" option. Even if he is ok with "being fired" (and who really believes he is?), it would be a horrible dynamic to put him under Ives, and under Ives he would be. This was a bad breakup and there's nothing to do for it but let him go find somewhere else to take his talents. That is if Apple will let him. I'm beginning to suspect Tim has him shackled in the dungeon, only bringing him out to testify at trials. Sorta like Reek.

iOS 3 and iOS 5 were big updates, iOS 7 is a big visual update but that's about it. I would rather have a big set of new features instead, now we have to wait for iOS 9. iOS 8 will likely just be a polished version of iOS 7.

Maybe it was planned from the start to be one of many new big features in iOS 7 but many were delayed due to the new design. I wouldn't be surprised if an early version of iOS 7 featured a linen Control Center.

You're basically choosing a design from 2007 over 2013.

So you're telling me people were throwing up using the barrel jailbreak tweak in iOS 6 that spun all the icons in animations?

How come no one was reporting motion sickness with that?

----------

I do not suffer motion sickness. Thank you for your concern.

then WHY are you even concerned?

You seem to not want to let go of the idea that Forstall's creativity was exhausted by iOS 6.

It's like cheering for Michael Jordan to come back to the NBA.
