Agree. It's a contemporary look on a contemporary device.

If you want leather and stitching buy a filofax with leather and stitching. If you want green felt, buy a card table, etc, etc.

iBooks still needs sorting out though. If I wanted to see the shadow on the left and the page edges on the right then I would have bought a book. Amazon have done a much nicer job with their Kindle app IMHO - nice and clean.

Since the basis of his removal was the GUI and Ive has done WAAAYY worse; yes rehire him as soon as possible.

The basis of his removal was refusing to apologize for Maps and arguing with co-workers, among many other things that made him not fit to lead iOS anymore.

I would say: Yes. If it would mean getting some actual graphics designers to create aesthetically pleasing app icons!

Jony Ive is not a software designer, Steve had two separate people for a reason.

Unfortunately for you, Jony Ive wasn't designing the software. Head of human interface doesn't necessarily mean that he was designing.

These are the new features of iOS 7 besides the visuals. Together with 1500 new APIs for developers.

Also you can take a look at "iOS version history" page of Wikipedia for the new features:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history#iOS_7.x

Whoever says that iOS 7 doesn't have internal updates doesn't know iOS 7 well enough.

He's the Senior Vice President of Design...

Exactly. Forstall led a smooth, seamless rollout of Apple Maps last year. It isn't as if the CEO had to write a public apology like he did this year...

Oh, wait.

Have you read the interview with him and Craig federighi?

The fact that people's complaints are distiller to the icons only show that he isn't needed.

he took ages to accept jailbreak tweaks to iOS like the roation lock/mute switch everyone asked for and other stuff

Craig incorporated many jailbreak tweaks to iOS 7 in just one release, so back off Scott we're fine here

He let iOS stagnate and failed to add needed features - control center for example- letting Android catch up.

God bless him in whatever he does next, but it was time.

Yes. iOS stagnated under him and Apple still hasn't caught up. Apple maps are inferior to Google maps, Siri is inferior to Google Now and Passbook was poorly implemented/explained. I don't think Cook fired him for no reason.

----------

I didn't vote as I didn't see the " maybe in ten years or so" option. Even if he is ok with "being fired" (and who really believes he is?), it would be a horrible dynamic to put him under Ives, and under Ives he would be. This was a bad breakup and there's nothing to do for it but let him go find somewhere else to take his talents. That is if Apple will let him. I'm beginning to suspect Tim has him shackled in the dungeon, only bringing him out to testify at trials. Sorta like Reek.

Why would he be put under Ive when Federighi is responsible for iOS?

Exactly. Whatever one thinks about iOS 7 I think people can agree that iOS 6 was underwhelming to say the least. I don't think it's a coincidence that control center happened after Forstall was gone. I'm sure like Steve he felt quick access to settings was unnecessary because people shouldn't have to be messing around with settings. I don't know any other reason why in the 6 years he owned iOS we never got something like control center.

Oh wow, the thread got moved after it had been sitting nicely for a few days.
Maybe moving it draws less attention to it?

that's because : " Did Steve Jobs work on iOS 7 ?" is more relevant due to the mere fact of iOS7 reference in the thread title...

edit--
as well as : Does Steve Wozniak hate IOS 7 ?

Only if we want more clutter, hidden buttons, and wasted space on our screens.

If you ask me, wasted space is the biggest problem I have with iOS7, at least on the iPad. On the iPhone it's great. You can tell it was designed from the ground up for smaller screens. On the iPad? It's not terrible, but I always feel like some of the larger screen filling effects and UI elements could put that extra space to better use.

Like the new multitasker. It's a vast improvement over the old setup. But why does it only show three apps at once on the iPad? Apple could set it up so that it looks and acts much more like Expose there.

I think some of the rumor sites said iPhone was the main focus of iOS 7. Would be nice to see a point update next week or when the new iPads are available for sale that made the iPad software more complete. Not expecting it though.
