From the official apple website: https://www.apple.com/ipados/

iPadOS (13.0 ?) is settled to be officially released on September 30th.

While Catalina is planned in October, when I suppose they also release iPadOS 13.1

Hence it is unrelated to the iOS 13.0 GM release, since they are two "different" OSes, moreover Sidecar is an exclusive feature only of iPads and Catalina Macs.

iPadOS will be 13.1.

Both iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 are to be released Sept. 30. iOS 13.0 will come next week. There will be no iPadOS 13.0 release.

Not sure, iOS 13.0 from the official website: https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-13/

is already scheduled for September 19th.
Yes, that's iOS 13.0. Like I said, next week. iOS 13.1 is coming Sept. 30.

Developers have stated the iPadOS coming Sept. 30 is going to be 13.1, with no 13.0 release. Could be wrong, but that's what basically everyone says.

It should be noted that the iOS 13.0 GM is already available, and that's what I'm running on my iPhone. There is no iPadOS 13.0 GM available at all.

My guess it that iPadOS GM will arrive next week, and it will be a version after 13.1 beta 3.

Just a curiosity about your iPhone, how do you downgraded from iOS 13.1 beta 3 (17A5837a) to iOS 13.0 GM Seed (17A577) ?

It has been automatically prompted by the "beta OTA update" or you skipped the "OTA update to iOS 13.1 beta" earlier ?

There is no GM iOS 13.0 OTA update. You must update from the IPSW.

I did skip the OTA update to iOS 13.1 though, and stayed with iOS 13.0 beta 8. That way there was no data loss when I went to iOS 13.0 GM. The reason I did this is because I was convinced there would be an iOS 13.0 release. It turns out I was right on that. (Many people were adamant there would be no iOS 13.0 release.)

I also left my iPad Pro on iPadOS 13.0 beta 8 because I was convinced there would be an iPadOS 13.0 release. It turns out I'm likely wrong on that. When I found out iPadOS would come out Sept. 30, I immediately updated to iPadOS 13.1 beta 3.

iPadOS 13.1 final released today, I noticed because after removed my beta profile from iPad, I have been prompted by apple OTA to download it (over my iPadOS 13.1 beta 4) : 2,77 Gb

Haven't updated yet to Catalina beta 9, but I guess my previous beta 8 Sidecar patched should still work.

I have:

- MacBook Pro 2016 running Catalina beta 8
- iPad Air 2 running iPadOS 13.1 released yesterday

I have followed the steps here so I have:

1) Disabled SIP
2) Terminal: sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder
3) Terminal: open /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SideCarCore.framework/Versions/A/
4) In the opened folder replaced SidecarCore with beta 8 version from the post linked above
5) Connected iPad to MacBook with USB-C to Lightning cable

But for some reason, it doesn't work (I'm getting timed out error). First, it complained that I don't have 2-way authentication enabled on both devices. I checked (it was on) and tried again and then faced timed out error. After a fresh reboot it connects for a few seconds (nothing happens on iPad) and then I get the timed out error. So I guess I'm stuck with Duet? ?

My patched file for Sidecar on iPad Air 2 (and mini 4) works only wired, through lightning to usb cable .

Moreover for making a wired Sidecar connection add these steps:

- plug the lightning cable from iPadOS device to a Catalina mac, then open the device from Catalina Finder and click "Trust", after from iPadOS device tap "Allow".

I forgot to mention that I trusted the Mac but thanks for pointing out! Has someone been successful with official iPadOS release and iPad Air 2 / mini 4? Maybe something is changed there?

I've got a 2013 Mac Pro on 10.14 currently plus an 11" Pro on 13.1.
I believe when I upgrade to Catalina that sidebar isn't supported as my mac is too old.
Is it likely sidecar will work in the final release if i follow the steps above (disable SIP, terminal commands, replace files) at an acceptable level?

I'm mainly wanting to use my ipad as a second monitor for viewing premiere pro / lightroom / photoshop images as i'm editing them (IE: get a more color accurate display of what i'm working with) so i don't mind a second of lag as it's more a 'double check the colours' rather than a realtime interaction.

Thanks,

Here is an updated fix to make Sidecar work again between iPadOS 13.1 (final release) and Catalina Beta 9 (probably also on the next Catalina GM seed) with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 only in wired mode (using a lightning cable to usb).

The improved patched file is totally safe and will work on any iPadOS device and any Catalina supported Mac.

It works also with the iPad 5th-6th gen (the non-Pro and non-Air edition), non-HEVC GPU Catalina supported Mac, moreover applying the patch doesn't affect the others "HEVC capable GPU Catalina Mac" and modern iPad Pro that are Sidecar natively supported.

Requirements to apply the patch:

- either iPadOS 13.1 and Catalina must be logged into the same iCloud account (with two-factor authentication)
- SIP disabled (booting with CMD+R from Recovery Terminal typing "csrutil disable")
- sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder (from a Catalina Terminal to overwrite the file to patch)
open /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SideCarCore.framework/Versions/A/
- the plugged iPadOS device must be Trusted from Catalina Finder (click Trust) and Authorised from the iPad (tap Authorize).

other tips:

- to use the virtualised "Sidebar" on iPadOS, from Catalina Mac open the little ipad blue icon (or the Airplay icon) on finder top-right menu and select "Use as Separate Display"
- while to use the virtualised "Touch Bar" select "Mirror as Sidecar display"

For reference and other details here is my original post: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/side-car-has-anyone-got-it-working.2184104/post-27561537

This is getting very frustrating ...
I have a macbook ( early 2016 ) and an ipad ( 5th generation ) and i've installed every public beta an both devices. Didn't work on any of them.
Now i'm on version 13.1 on ipad and 10.15 beta on the macbook, but it still doesnt work.
Also logged out / in from icloud account and restarted both devices about a hundred times.
It neither works over wifi nor with cable.

i got the sidecar icon in preferences, but i dont see the ipad in the display-list or under sidecar.

Anyone got any tips?

Try my patched file, I posted before, it will 99% work and this time it covers any Catalina supported Mac with any iPadOS devices.

only show black screen in iPad Pro 9.7..
seems no luck in iMac10,1..haha

The reason is simple, the iPad Pro has the usb-type-c (thunderbolt 3 port), so it requires an usb-type-c input on the Mac or at least an USB 3.0 XHCI bus, that your iMac10,1 doesn't have (only an USB 2.0 host), moreover my Sidecar patch is mainly for Catalina supported Mac.

The same applies to an iPad with lightning-cable, that is USB 3.0 compliant, so in few words you can't Sidecar wired through USB without an USB 3.0 port on the Mac.

Just tested and my previous Sidecar beta 9 patch still continue to work properly on Catalina beta 10 .

I guess I found the requirement to make sidecar work in "wireless mode", (not sure about Bluetooth 5.0 or 4.0) but it's required an internal AirPort Wifi 802.11ac also known as "WiFi 5" , while 802.11n is "WiFi 4".

While for Sidecar in "wired mode" is required an "USB 3.0 XHCI internal bus" and a good quality cable.

Just tried your Sidecar beta 9 patch with Catalina beta 10 on an iMac8,1 and iPad Mini4 running iPadOS 13.1.2.

With the patch applied, the iMac recognises the iPad, but Sidecar only produces a blank black screen. The iMac has neither Wifi 802.11ac nor USB 2.0.

Without investing in a new Airport card, it looks as if Sidecar is not going to work properly. Thanks for your continued support.

But as you noticed earlier, the Sidecar patch worked on iMac late 2012 in "wired-mode" because it has an internal USB 3.0 port, but not in "wireless mode" because it has only the Wifi 802.11n .

And I repeat, nonetheless the streaming quality, the Sidecar patch is mainly for Catalina official supported Mac and iPadOS devices.

edit:
Moreover Sidecar requires an "AirPlay Display Mirroring" capable GPU that all the pre-2011 mac don't have.

@jackluke
Thanks for your observations.
I have two fairly old iMacs, 8.1 and 13,1. It's interesting to see how far these can go in supporting the latest releases from Apple. I had intended to replace the older machine with a new 2019 iMac, but was very disappointed with the product offering. No visual improvement compared with the 2012 model and only limited changes compared with the 2008 machine.

Not completely (rather no) because apple dropped from support all the iPad without official iPencil support.

Even if your 2018 MBP is HEVC capable, your limitation is in the iPad mini 4 hardware (very similar to the iPad Air 2).

But you can have it working again because for chance, during the Catalina beta 2 (around June), I catched a glitch by apple, and so if you use my "SidecarCore beta 9 patched file", you'll have a working Sidecar on your setup, but you should first update Catalina to the latest beta 11 and iPadOS to 13.1.2 and apply these preliminary steps:

- Boot from Recovery with CMD+R , open a recovery Terminal and type exactly: csrutil disable ; reboot

Then follow these tips to replace the file: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/side-car-has-anyone-got-it-working.2184104/post-27807001
