Expedia just added Sign In With Apple.

2762218D-4D41-4E18-A6C9-D45483D1CC57.png

One more off the Top Outstanding Apps list with a couple of weeks until the deadline.

my partner works as a manager for Expedia groups, and he says Expedia may not integrate SIWA, as of talk in their office so far.

I guess that solves that question.

I added WestJet to “Top Outstanding Apps” after noticing this:

Facebook is trying to track me on the WestJet website? WTF? Widespread Sign In With Apple can’t come soon enough. So great to see Apple catch Facebook’s attempt and give users an opt out.

UPDATE: WestJet actually removed Facebook Sign in from their app. It's still an option on their site. It looks like they have no intention of providing Sign In With Apple. Moved to "Removed Social Sign Ins" list.

Yeah, Apple needs to close that loophole. Only a few apps that I’ve seen have taken advantage of it.

Let’s see what Apple announces next week for iOS 14. It’s WWDC and we’ll be a week away from the deadline for developers to implement SIWA so I’m sure it’ll be mentioned.

I am seeing the same behavior from eBay as well, I cannot hide my email there.
Aditionally I cannot see SIWA on Expedia yet, must be a staged rollout... I now need to figure out how to delete my account.

Kickstarter now has Sign In With Apple
8903C255-82CF-4318-AC6F-9D7EEB530F89.jpeg

But like several apps that I’ve noticed, they haven’t added Sign In With Apple on their webpage.

3F0C0078-3B40-4633-9AB8-660D307C591C.png
This forces Sign In With Apple users to remain in the iOS app, preventing them from accessing the service on a Mac. I guess this is one way app developers can encourage users to give them their email or sign up through Facebook.

I hope to see Sign In With Apple move to focus on the web next. They won’t necessarily have to make it mandatory as the critical mass of users in apps will eventually spread to the web as users start asking these services to provide a way to sign in on the web.

But better support for Sign In With Apple on the web is needed. @arn has said that implementing it on MacRumors has been challenging because MacRumors doesn’t have an app. Let’s see if that’s addressed at WWDC and in iOS 14 and macOS 10.16.

I’ve added a section for Sign In With Apple on the web. I’m going to need everyone’s help with that one since it’s been time consuming enough to maintain an app list. If you find any sites that support Sign In With Apple, please add it to the wiki.

Notably, Pinterest, Yelp, Kickstarter and Groupon have only added Sign In With Apple in their iOS app and haven’t given users a way to sign in on the web.

Also, I changed the main list from bullet points to a numbered list to keep track of the number of apps we’ve found that supports it. Over 240 so far!

Update: I skimmed our apps list and cross referenced some of the ones that have websites and have so far come up with this list.

Websites with Sign In With Apple:
  • Adobe
  • Buzzfeed
  • Chick-Fil-A
  • Coursera
  • DoorDash
  • Dropbox
  • eBay
  • Etsy
  • Evite
  • Expedia
  • Fiverr
  • Giphy
  • Houzz
  • IFTTT
  • IMDb
  • JustEat
  • Kayak
  • Medium
  • New York Times
  • Nintendo
  • SkipTheDishes
  • Squarespace
  • Strava
  • TED
  • Trip.com
  • Trivago
  • UPS
  • Wordpress
Sign In With Apple app but not on the web:
  • Calm
  • Groupon
  • Grubhub
  • Happn
  • HotelTonight
  • Instacart
  • Kickstarter
  • Monster
  • MyFitnessPal
  • Pinterest
  • Trulia
  • Wish
  • Yelp

It’s great to see a pretty large list of websites that are offering Sign In With Apple without the mandatory requirement that applies to apps.

But it’s also kind of surprising to see the number of apps that haven’t bothered to give their own users a way of signing in on the web.

I just noticed one downside of going all Sign In With Apple and abandoning Facebook. Some sites that have Facebook sign in, require it so that you can comment. If you Sign In with Apple, you lose the ability to comment on those sites.

Disqus seems to have become more commonplace these days though it’s still very often that Facebook is used as a commenting system. Unfortunately, Disqus doesn’t have Sign In With Apple either and given that they don’t have an app, it’s unlikely that they’ll add it.
There really needs to be an open source commenting system that uses Sign In With Apple on iOS and Google’s sign in on Android.

My mistake. JustEat redirected me to SkipTheDishes here in Canada — which does have Sign In With Apple. I removed it from the list

Shame they havent implemented it here, as I now can’t sign in on the web. It’s on the app though!

Send them a support request. That’s ultimately how Sign In With Apple is going to spread on the web where it isn’t mandatory. If apps have Sign In With Apple because it’s mandatory but not on the web, when their clients start asking for ways to sign in on the web, they’ll just have to add it.

I just did that for Calm and Kickstarter.

10 days to go! There’s been a bit of a lull in updates from major apps these past few days. The quiet before the storm?

What apps are you still missing?

For me, I’m waiting anxiously on Quora because like Pinterest, it constantly comes up in Google search results and I refuse to set up a known account.

Apps that I use that are still outstanding: OpenTable, Pizza Pizza, Duolingo and Cineplex.

Looking back though, it’s amazing how dozens of apps that I use, now have Sign In With Apple, though when I started this thread, it was just one or two.

Ah, back from the lull. Here are a couple of big ones.

B&O is one of the nicest implementations of sign ins, though I’d rather see that F gone and just the major operating systems instead.

Deezer and B&O are also on the web:

It’s encouraging to see web implementation of Sign In With Apple given that unlike apps on the App Store, the web isn’t mandatory, yet developers have been adding it.

OpenTable and VSCO updated their apps, without Sign In With Apple just before the deadline. Looks like they don't plan on adding it any time soon.

1 week to go before Sign In With Apple becomes mandatory with each app update.
