iHeartRadio finally adds Sign In With Apple.

They had promised they’d add it since last year. It was listed in our wiki as a Top Outstanding App, now moved to the available list.

Let’s see how many of those in the Top Outstanding List will be cleared out in the next 4 days between now and the deadline. 🤞🏼

BUNZ Trader now has Sign In with Apple.

I’d been asking them for this for quite a while. I previously had signed in through Facebook but since I deleted that, I couldn’t use their app. Good to see it implemented.

So, it turns out BUNZ is one of those apps that I had too much history (including BUNZ currency) to delete and restart fresh. My BUNZ account was tied into Facebook. Luckily, I was able to merge the account and then delete my Facebook link again.

1-Sign in to BUNZ with Facebook then Sign out.
2- Sign in With Apple, ensuring that my Apple ID email is the same one used by Facebook. Check that you’re account is working.
3-Unlink Facebook from BUNZ from within Facebook’s settings in privacy > logged in with Facebook.

My BUNZ account was preserved and now I can Sign In with Apple.

With this I am now down to 200 entries in iCloud Keychain. Still have some outstanding deletion requests though. I finally got my original Expedia deleted though!

it is a lot of work to remove old accounts and create new ones using SIWA. I do not think many people will go through this effort.
Isn't there going to be an update with iOS14 that lets you merge existing accounts with SIWA?

I deleted most of my app accounts and started new ones. I detailed it back some pages in the thread.

What I found was that we overestimate our attachment to the history of old accounts. The vast majority has nothing worth keeping.

And because Sign In With Apple is just as easy to “register” a new account as it is to sign in, I also find myself culling accounts on apps I started with Sign In With Apple.

I think the most “work” I had was moving my Soundcloud and TED talks to new accounts. I had liked songs and artists I followed in SoundCloud and in TED I had liked talks and had added a bunch of talks to my watch list. I manually copied that “history” to new anonymous accounts in something like 5 minutes.

Yeah I really wanted to use both of them but not without Sign In with Apple.

This is funny. VSCO updated their app without Sign In With Apple the day before the deadline! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Eventually, they’ll have to add it, unless they’re stalling because they’re planning to extricate social media logins entirely. I can’t see another explanation. Sign In With Apple is not complicated code to implement. Moving all social accounts to an internal system, on the other hand is a complex undertaking.

There is and there are a bunch of apps that already make this possible but don’t you think that defeats the purpose? The privacy feature of Sign In With Apple is annulled if an app knows your original email and can now associate that with your Apple ID.

I mean, I’m not being paranoid about my hiding but I’d rather not have apps track me around the web using my email as the common denominator, or worse, tying me to my Facebook account which knows way too much about me already.

Ultimately, I’m fine with an app knowing who I am but when they take my data outside of the app that I signed up for, then they’ve crossed a line. Sign In With Apple permits you to remain in islands of information within each app and website.

Anylist has decided to remove social logins and give's a very lengthy explanation:

They make a few good points.
That was good of them to explain in detail. But regarding the unique issues of SIWA that they presented, I thought the only really valid (but maybe still solvable) ones were regarding when the company needs to look up a person’s account, either for support purposes or to connect to someone else for sharing purposes—and potentially SIWA’s immature state and inadequate documentation, if those are confirmed.
Regarding looking up a person’s account for support purposes, maybe there could be a SIWA-like button implemented into the app’s contact support page that displays the relay email address and maybe copies it to the clipboard, or something along those lines. I don’t know how difficult that would be to make though.
Regarding other people wanting to share, like they said in the blog post, the user will either mistakenly create a new account—which I think they’ll only do if they weren’t very familiar with the app in the first place, so making a new account isn’t much of a negative consequence—or they’ll opt to connect the SIWA account to their email, which is their choice. Some types of apps aren’t as functional without email addresses, like in this case. Though it would be ideal to let the user decide how much functionality they want to opt into at the price of privacy, it’s up to the developer whether or not they want to implement that choice. Anylist had the free choice to disable all social sign ins and I don’t judge them for deciding to do that.

Most of these are terrible excuses, making the assumption that their users are idiots. People have one Apple ID and that connects them to all their app accounts. That’s far more straightforward than signing up with email accounts for each app.

The only point that makes sense is that if you’re sending invites to friends emails and that’s supposed to connect to their app, then the email must be known. But this is easy to sort out. Ask for the user’s real email during onboarding. Tell them that it’s essential to make the app work. This just sounds like this developer is either too strict and incapable of thinking flexibly or they’re determined to keep you connected to a known account so that they can track you for data harvesting.

VSCO, Uber and Duolingo all updated their apps today without adding Sign In With Apple, the day before it becomes mandatory. I guess they can ride out the next month or so without having to add it — until they need to update their app. They’re all just stalling the inevitable.

Has anyone had any luck with migrating existing eBay accounts over to SIWA?

For example, I have an eBay account with Email & Password login, which I'd like to retain and migrate over to SIWA. I can link my account to SIWA, however would I still be able to log in with Email & Password after doing this? (I hope not, otherwise I'd have to start a fresh account!)

eBay simply added Sign In With Apple as one of your login options. You could still log in with a password. This is why I just deleted my long-standing account. I haven’t started a new one though, as they still require an email. I might just use a burner account if Apple doesn’t close the loophole and prevent eBay and Pinterest from removing the anonymous email option.

Thank you, that's disappointing to hear so it looks like I'll be requesting deletion of my account and then creating a new account if there's something I'm desperate for in the future 👍🏻

It'll be interesting to see how widespread the adoption of the migration tool in iOS 14 will be. Unfortunately, I doubt it'll be high 😭

When eBay or Pinterest asks you for your email address after registering via SIWA, is there any way you can just copy paste the Apple provided relay email address?

I considered that but when you Sign Up with Apple, the usual card pops up, but without the anonymous email relay option. They then ask you for your email before proceeding. This seems like a loophole, though I'm not entirely sure Apple expected it.

Ah I see, so there wouldn't really be much point privacy wise.. I am new to SIWA and I am still pretty confused by how it all works. I've only used it with Just Eat app, I'm pretty confused as to how you'd sign in on the website if you signed up using SIWA on the app as well lol.

This is it. It’s June 30. After today, every app* in your App Store updates will add Sign In With Apple if they offer Facebook, Google or other social sign ins and haven’t already updated.

Note that apps that don’t yet comply won’t be removed from the App Store. They just won’t be able to push updates to their app until they comply with the iOS 13 SDK, which includes the mandatory Sign In With Apple.

*There are a few exceptions or loopholes. Since the Hey controversy, Apple says that they will not hold up an app’s updates for important bugs, specially security bug updates, over rule compliance. There’s some discretion given to App Store reviewers over what would qualify as important bug updates.

Apps like Pinterest and eBay found a loophole and prevent you from hiding your email with Apple‘s relay system. It’s possible more apps will do this.

Then, of course apps can remove all social sign ins to avoid adding Sign In With Apple. It’ll be interesting to see in the coming days.

That's the magic of Apple's leverage. Even though they can't control how websites are built and can't force them to offer sign in with Apple on their websites, with apps adding Sign In With Apple, they must also offer it on their website so that their app users can log in.

A growing list of websites have Sign In With Apple. When you hit Sign In With Apple on a website, if it's on an iPhone or iPad, it'll sign in just like an app. If it's on a Mac, you'll be asked to sign in to your Apple ID on that Mac if you're not already. If you're on Windows or Android, there's a specific code that you can generate to log you in.

Ultimately, Sign In With Apple works best within the Apple ecosystem. If you're a Windows PC and Android household, maybe Sign In With Apple is not the right thing for you.
