I for one hope to see the Slingmedia player come to the iPhone very soon. Some have labeled the iPhone 3G as the God phone. Well without the slingplayer app, my iphone 3g is just.....well... The new white 3G iphone.

I also E-mailed Steve Jobs - to get it straight from him if this will be possible or not. I will let you know if I get a responce.

Can more than one computer and/or iphone access the feed from slingbox???? Please I need help
Well, currently the (unjailbroken) iPhone cannot connect to a Slingbox, so there is no confirmation on that. But with the way that other devices access Slingbox, several are able to connect to it, but only one can connect at a time, but I may be mistaken.

You are not mistaken, a Slingbox will only accept 1 active connection at once. If you connect from another device or computer, it will kill the current connection to it.

my brother has a web app on his phone called remotebuddy ( i think this is the name) and it has a button for slingbox, but it will not work as of yet. not sure if this will work on a jailbroken iphone?

anyone tried this?

I don't think it has anything to do with Apple TV, you can hookup the AppleTV to a slingbox and "sling" the contents of Apple TV. I believe it was mentioned on the setup guide of my slingbox.

Knowing AT&T and Apple, they're having fits over the legalese of it. Various networks, MLB and NFL (as I recall) all tried grinding Sling Media into the ground and none succeeded but they made damn sure Sling Media played by the rules. That's why you can only connect a single client to a box. Anyway, my bet would be that Apple especially, being so unbelievably paranoid, want to be certain that no one can come after them because of Slingplayer. If I had to make a second guess, it would be that they're trying to find the sneakiest way to exploit Slingplayer. A Slingplayer data plan or some bs like that. Anything for that extra nickle and dime, you know.

All that having been said, who really knows if it'll ever show up and, if so, when? No one here, that's for certain. But I bought the cable company baseball package for the expressed purpose of watching it with my phone when I'm out. Unfortunately, I had a Sprint then and a pda that let me use Slingplayer. So I've replaced the iPhone with a Tilt and put the iPhone in a desk drawer until the day Slingplayer becomes available. The iPhone lacks quite a bit but a working Slingplayer that doesn't smack of Apple/AT&T nickle-and-diming would go a LONG LONG WAY in making it my full time phone again and perhaps evening LIKING Apple/AT&T.

AT&T wont have any issue with sling, Other smart phones can sling just fine with AT&T plan
s. I saw in this post I think that Slingmedia is looking to hire someone with the skills to make an apple store sling app. I will try to find the link and post again. So if any of you all know someone who could do this let them know so we can get this before the year is up.

Ok here is the link to the Job posting - Thanks to Mac Rumours member Seattle

I bought my slingbox just so I could watch my live TV on my iphone. I knew before buying it that there was not an app. but I figured that it was just a matter of time before this happens. Now that I have my sling box and 3G iPhone, I am searching the internet and sling's website for any info on sling app and 3G iphone.:D

The wait is killing me.

Someone give me some hope ,(yes I am talking to you sling media):D

IMHO, The only way we'll ever see a Slingplayer for the iphone is if the release of this new Android phone builds up some nice momentum and gives apple some good competition - then MAYBE Apple will stop being greedy and step up to the plate. If they don't however and the Dream is actually as strong as its claims, I'll be the first to make the switch (problem solved!). I'm not even trying to be particular anymore, I just want ANY media/mobile TV app - but again, it's not looking too promising right now. I too am one of those people that held off on buying a first gen iphone simply because it didn't have 3G and therefore couldn't stream my Sling - then, once the 3G was released I grabbed one quick, only to be left scratching my head with dissapointment. And I can't stand the constant blind Apple fan comments of, "you knew what the phone could do before you purchased it"! No, I think it's pretty safe to say, especially for first time iphone owners, that we only expected it to do what just about every other "smart" phone out there could do, and I think our expectations were pretty justified. The only thing worse than the iphone's narcoleptic 3G service, lack of features and its prison like restrictions, are the overly fanatic, blind-worshiping, puppet like Apple fans that would love nothing more than to follow Steve Jobs right into his bed.

Preach it Brotha !!!! I am still going to pray for the sling app, FOr as I stated in another post a few up, sling is hiring an enginer to help finish development of its app for the app store. Help me pray church, Help me Pray:D

Forget about AppleTV... Apple doesn't want SlingPlayer to cut into their iTunes revenue. Which is what AppleTV and the iPhone help to boost.

WOW, There is absolutely nothing "humble" about that post. Don't sugar coat it. Tell us how you really feel! LOL! :D I love my iPhone, but I too am upset with the lack of features.

People wake up. Sling is not comming, its not comming. Aple will not allow a software that will compete with itunes.

Apple would still get 30% of the price of the app, and if you look at what Sling charges for the mobile version for windows based smart phones, It is $29.99, and say that Itunes app store sells a million apps over its life time, just if, Apple has a proffit of $8,990,000.00:cool:

Thats alot of revenue just to throw away

Sling would not waste time and money, to hire someone to finish developing an app to put on the app store. I am sure that Apple and Sling have had talks to make sure rules were not broken. once they finished talking, Apple may have said show me a finished product and we will make sure it will work, and put it on the app store.

Sling is now hiring for an enginer to finish this app, so How can you say that?

Media has pushed it, getting it into the consumers minds. so Apple would make a poor choice not to put sling app onto the app store.

They are trying to compete as a smart phone, I love my iphone, but almost 97% of all other smart phones can use sling. Apple will catch up and make this the best phone in the world:D go :apple:

also note: Pandora radio app competes with itunes as you can specify an artist and have it play. you dont have to buy from itunes. Shazam - you can hum the song and it will find it and you can play it on your phone no download required.

those 2 apps compete with itunes

That's true, but for every slingplayer app that's downloaded, that's only a one time revenue for Apple. However, if the SlingPlayer were not available, there would be more opportunities for revenue that Apple would be missing out on.

its also only one time revenue for sling. IMO Apple would have more opportunities for revenue having the sling app on the app store.

Example: you are on a buisness trip, and you are slinging a movie from your house. You are watching a movie and something comes up and you cannot finish the movie, keep in mind you dont have tivo or DVR. Your other option is to go onto Itunes and find that movie and download it. Or you hear a song on one of the many music channels that are now offered on cable. you want that song. Pull it up onto itunes. many ways to create revenue. Apple and sling both win.:D

Manchoi44 - What revenue would apple loose out on having the sling app in the app store?

If Sling isn't going to spend money on a development effort, then why did they just recently add the following job posting:

Kid you hear anything back from sling yet?

Don't get me wrong, I aboslutely love the phone too but that's cause I realize it's potential. As it is now, it nits current state, I can only say it's a love hate relationship. My problems lie with Apple and their management. I just really hope that some good competition starts to sprout to make Apple step up to the plate, cause right now the lack of one REAL solid contender and the lack of competition is making Apple really lazy and is allowing them to have their way with us. I'm just paraying that the Dream is truly a dream - Apple would give us everything we've been asking for, and probably do it overnight. It would leave all the die-hard iphone loyalists scratching their heads asking, "why didn't they give this to us before?". I have to agree with the other poster though, until then, Slingbox will most likely never make an appearence (or anything that competes with iTunes for that matter).

Apple has already posted several apps that compete with the Itunes store though.

Pray it will come, may not be this year but I have faith it will come:D
