I checked that indeed on older machines the three kexts
AppleADBButtons
AppleADBKeyboard
AppleADBMouse

are needed and not supplied by 10.6 any more. As they do no harm on other systems (and don´t even load at boot time), they can be patched onto the system regardless of machine type. @0403979 might include it in that way in his patcher scripts soon.

For those on standby: Is there still interest in a fresh installed ready-to-run image? I could create one for i.e. the 10A190 build that takes up where user credentials are entered. If languages are kept to English and only Gutenprint as printer drivers included, size could be kept down at around 5+ GB.

Hi guys,

While testing TenFourFox and foxPEP I found a curious thing
about our distorted images already mentioned in this thread:

Spoiler: It only happens with jpeg images !!!

For some reason the coding inside TFF if failing to apply the scalling effects
most probabliy due to some "altivec" functions in our SL not working properly
( Not your fault Cameron ).

It's not related to QE/CI I think because my quad G5 fully accelerated has
the same problems.

Maybe some code was removed or changed in snow leopard.

Can we relay this to Cameron?? Maybe he can take a look at it for one of the next
FPR's?

PS. if you want to test this and have an avatar which is "weird" looking just convert
it to png and re-upload

Best regards,
voidRunner

Hi Lars,

I know this might be "more work" than it's worth bu maybe 2 images
1 with and 1 without.
Then you choose what you want to download.

Compressing might also help. I compressesed the SL Server ISO and it shrunk from 7.11Gb to 5.8Gb
I'm sure with the HD image it can be cut down too.

Have you tried removing Intel code with Monolingual?

Best regards,
voidRunner

Already contacted him. His hint was also about Altivec, but the cross check with using the G3 build of TFF did (at least on 10A96) not prove it: Still artefacts in jpeg decompression, despite no Altivec usage.
Could you try this also?
Another note: Ken burns effect in zooming pictures works in screensaver!

Monolingual is always one of the first things I run on any system ;-)

And we have liftoff on SnowLeopardRebirth courtesy of @SourceSunTom ;-)

I've not finished putting everything in place but it's looking like this.
One snag I've found is that SArtfile.bin is not usable directly ( I think something
is missing as the sizes are very different ).
Putting in the rest right now :D

PS. @SouceSunTom this is your work so let me know if this is ok with you.

Fresh & modern.
Sometimes it kind of pays off to have old machines ready to ship ;-)

(Explanation: I recently shipped a MB1,1 to Tom so he could adapt his Leopard Rebirth to 10.6, he‘ll be on it soon and already made some progress on the „dry dock“)

If you could create for QUAD G5 with Ati x1900 it will be great :)

Ok, I‘ll set it up in the most general way for all machines. Tweaking with optimized kexts (i. e. to be found for x1900, if available at all) will have to be done individually then.
The ultimate goal could be some kind of universal installer/patcher/post-patcher tool, perhaps by @0403979
We just need to find out more and more, but are on a good way now, thanks to the participants here.

Great. the x1900xt is available card for the MacPro 1.1PCIe and its working from 10.4.7 , 10.5 and 10.6 etc.
So i think kext will be available.

Very much yes, just stumbled into the thread from an external tip-off.

I’ve got several PPC machines id like to test on, a DC G5, and older DP G5, and one of every generation of PM G4 from Yikes through to MDD, as well as one of every Alu PB in 12 and 15in.

A ready to clone DMG would be ace if possible, but if not I’ll try and put some time aside to build from ISO myself at some point, currently got 6 Mac Pro’s in bits on an aftermarket fan replacement project though so might not be for a week or two!

Hi Lars,

We really need to get this or at least a reference ( visible all the time ) in
the PowerPC subforum I suspect that as @amedias a lot of PPC enthusiasts
have not seen this development and that it is "bursting" with promise.

Hi all,

We can add another gem to or SL PPC list of running Apps:

COREPLAYER !!!

One caveat dough right now it still needs a full QE/CI machine ;-)

There is no PPC kext for that post Leopard in any of the SL builds that I have seen. The Leopard 10.5.8 kext loads under 10A190 but QE doesn't work and CI is software only according to System Profiler.

Hi @weckart,

I forgot to mention his to you earlier.
I read something on a blog post regarding ATI kexts depending on AppleNDRV.kext
which has stuff only for ATI inside.

Search for AppleNDRV.
I've tried copying it from leopard to see if ot would make any difference for the 9700
but unfortunately no change.
But because SL Server also has kexts for the X1000 and X2000 maybe using the
one from Leopard might work.

The X1900XT only loads ATIX1000.kext in Leopard on mine from what I can see. The SL kexts for this are all Intel only. I have a 2005 A1177 with PCIe graphics. This same Leopard kext loads under 10A190 but changes nothing according to SysProf.

I am also having problems installing 10A190 on my 17" DLSD on an external FW drive. If I patch it manually, I can only get through the first stage of installation but it kernel panics on reboot. If I use Julian's script I get an unbootable volume. I have other bootable volumes on that FW drive, so I know that it is not the problem.

Hi @weckart,

I meant that although not for PPC the kexts are there so on an Intel machine
they should work.
That's why I thought that trying the Leopard ones ( both the x1000 and AppleNDRV )
it could work.
Not sure if this is what you did.

PS. Are there older versions of SL DPs that might still have these kexts PPC/Intel flavor?

Best regards,
voidRunner

I had already put all of the Leopard ATI kexts in 10A190 as none of the 101190 ones would load hoping for some GPU voodoo but it didn't help. I'll check for AppleNDRV.kext.

The only early builds we have up to now are 10A96 and 10A190. Nothing earlier.

[edit] Swapped the AppleNDRV bundles with those from Leopard. No issues in booting up but still no change.

Hey I've been following this thread for a few days, am trying to cram in as much info as possible; excuse me if I repeat questions from earlier on in this thread. I'm Mark from LEM (fb group) by the way!

I'm getting an identical KP on my DP 2.0 03 G5, the SL boot volume is an external FW drive. Are you saying this KP is happening because it's attempting to boot off a FW target disk? Attached is the KP I had.

I've been able to follow instructions closely up until this point. Thanks for any help given.
