PS. The message you found while booting is "normal" it's just a warning.
I till think the problem liies on OpenGL.framework which depends on
the ApplicationServices.framework which then relies on the sub-framework
CoreGraphics.framework.

OK, I’ll let it go for now. Thanks.

Still trying to figure out Quartz Extreme support and hardware Core Image support.

Cloned my G5 installation of 10A190 to my FW drive and it has booted up on my PB 5,9. Finder is still a hot mess and has only mounted one external and the one internal drive of the several that OF saw. Interesting that although I had renamed the cloned volume the boot selector screen only saw its original name.

Here comes the Fresh Install (tm) dmg for 10A190.

I like the cat, and the original Macintosh ´84 team would have also I´m sure. As long as it has no C19-mask nowadays ;-)
Thanks @Edgecrusherr !

Hi!

Thanks for this! Just discovered this topic yesteday! Already swapped to hard disk from the Mac Pro to the PPC G5 DC 2,3GHz!

What to do with that DMG for 10A190? Is an install disk or do I just need to clone it on the G5?

Thanks again!!

Hey guys,

- Despite instructions yesterday, all attempts ended up in KP's. Fortunately @Project Alice was able to send me an installed/bootable DMG which was proven working on his machines. When I cloned via CCC to my DP 2.0 G5, I still get KP's, though they look different this time. I'm starting to think maybe it's my Radeon 9800 Pro GPU causing this? I cloned to an eMac G4 and it gave the same KP, too.

Note: I'm booting this 10.6 disk clone off an external 500GB FW400 disk from a 3,1 in target disk mode

3 Attachments:
- Verboose boot picture on DP 2.0 G5 03 w/R9800P booting into Project Alice's 10A190 image
- Non-verbose KP on Project Alice's disk image - doesn't show error just "restart"
- 3rd image is the same disk image, but functioning, on a DP 2.0 G5 that he has.

What am I missing?

Oh hi Mark.

This appears to be 10A190. Have you also tested 10A96 on this?
I have not tested 10A96 on it. I actually erased 10A96 and installed 10A190 over it.
Hi Project,

For the 6800 is the Geforce kext being loaded?
If not then the problem might be in the Info.plist product ids not recognizing the
ones from the 6800 or even inside the binary itself.
In many cases to install a "hackintosh" product ids had to be "injected" so the kexts
would recognize them properly. Maybe for Geforces that can be the case because
if the 6600 works than the code is there ( it's the same family ) so I think
it just need some tinkering.

PS. Can you post your 6880 PID and VID so I can take a look?

Best regards,
voidRunner
I'm pretty sure the kext is loaded. PID is 2262 VID is 25b0

For God's sake, will someone PLEASE move this to the PowerPC forum now?? URL links are not good enough!

This is the most active and motivated state I've ever seen any enthusiast community engage into! Such an event that beholds most everyone chipping in to help achieve the literal holy grail of the platform should NOT be hidden away to a comparatively inactive subforum!

I agree!

I have successfully installed 10A190 on a G5 11.2 with 6600, soon i will try the Fx-4500. From my point of view, it is a clear performance improvement over Leopard, but it needs a lot of refinement. Memory footprint was reduced in comparison to Leopard, so maybe that is the reason?

Also, will OpenCL be supported on PPC hardware?
Can we with OpenCL use graphics cards as a video encoder and watch YouTube fluently under OS X?

Hi guys,

Just to let you know I've made the first build usin Xcode 3.2 :D
I've built Nocture for PPC 10.6 with the 10.6 SDK ;-)

Best regards,

So finally a dark theme for PPC!

Hey everyone, I can't really contribute programming wise, so I thought I'd contribute art wise.

I made some custom icons and a wallpaper for this. It's based on the 10.6 beta art from the time, plus a few other sources. I shifted things a little purple to match the more purple wallpaper and box of 10.5, so it's a hybrid of both systems. I made a version of the PPC logo with it too. Also, the snow leopard has an eye patch, not because it's promoting piracy, but because it's a "patched" system (get it??).

Icons are in PSD, so feel free to edit and make your own. Quality is a little rough due to sources I could find online, but should me more than enough on older PPC Macs. All you have to do is copy/paste icons into the icon field under the Info panel of a disk image or files/folders.

Preview attached, but link included to the ZIP file uploaded to my Google drive.

Thanks again to everyone working on this!

I fully agree, this is focused on PowerPC hardware so the correct place should be a sticky thread in the section for that purpose !

Hi Project,

The Geforce 6600 from Apple all have VID 10de are you sure about
25b0 because the Ids the NVDANV40Hal detected are all from VID 10de
so I'm not sure how your Leopard is detecting it.

The kexts that need to load for it to work are:

Geforce
NVDANV40Hal
NVDAResman

That's what it says.

I'll have to reboot into Leopard to see what it reads it as. My installation has all of the Leopard Geforce kexts installed.

Also I've manage to install MacPorts 2.6.2. I had to compile it from the source as the SL version was erroring out in the installer, and the Leopard version complained that it can't be installed on 10.6.

Hello everyone¡¡¡ , I am new to this forum, but I share with you this passion of ppc and being able to install 10.6 seems like a dream to me. A few years ago I tried but was unsuccessful.

I have been reading you and this forum seems like a treasure to me, I wish I could contribute.

I have several ppc machines and I would like to be useful and be able to test with them.

Hi Project,

Those are from your LCD screen ;-)
Then Geforce ones are a few lines above 10de and 0040.
And yes you are right that is a supported model in the new kexts also.
That is indeed weird.
Can you check if the kexts are loaded ( In System Profiles under extensions )?

Best regards,
voidRunner

Omfg. I'm an idiot lol

Both NVDANV40Hal, and NVDAResman are loaded but Geforce is not.

I just reinstalled the Geforce.kext that was in 10A190 and it still isn't loading.

Hi Project,

Can you post your ioreg ( ex. ioreg > ioreg.txt )
and your system.log and install.log ( inside /var/logs )
so I can take a look at them ?

Best regards,

Hey peeps - just caught up on the last 3 pages of the threads.... great to see all the progress! Some updates from my digging, which hope are useful:

Managed to re-download 10a190 and 10a222 properly this time.

Kexts
Have managed to compared which kexts have been removed in each build since 10a96 - as working on the assumption that PPC stuff would be being stripped rather than actively patched or added up:

Between 10a96 and 10a190:

Tools
It's great to see people using Pacifist and BatchMOD - as well as deleting the extensions cache files - this brings back old memories of using these to do 10.5 on G4 upgraded PMs....

Also great to see that terminal command to dig deep on the reporting architectures of all libraries and files in the installs.
This will really help fine-tune the merging of all the components likely needed to achieve what I reckon will be the final mish-mash SL PPC build we'll end up with (maybe a mishmash of all of them up util the point PPC was properly stripped).

Finder
The 10a222 Finder build seems to be non PPC:
finder: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures: [x86_64:Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64] [i386]
finder (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64
finder (for architecture i386): Mach-O executable i386

However the 10a190 build still includes PPC:
finder: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures: [x86_64:Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64] [ppc_7400]
finder (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64
finder (for architecture i386): Mach-O executable i386
finder (for architecture ppc7400): Mach-O executable ppc_7400

Request
May I make a special request? I'd love to complete the legacy of the 10.5 on PowerMac 8500/Beige G3 work by getting a SL 10.6 image to boot on one of these computers. I still have them - but they are not setup and i've got quite a busy life with 3 kids, work, etc right now. Would anyone mind holding off testing or getting this to work on this super-early hardware so I could complete that legacy myself, as a specific piece of work to add to this otherwise very collaborative effort? What do @Larsvonhier @Project Alice @B S Magnet think?

Hi Project,

You need to run that command from terminal ( ioreg > ioreg.txt ) it will
generate the ioreg.txt inside the folder
where you run it :)

Best regards
