After tested it on iPad, I don't really like the new Safari either. There's no refresh button so yeah, if you want to refresh when you are on a bottom of a page, you have to go all the way up, extremely stupid move indeed. Also I don't like the new address bar that is not in the center and is now on the current tab. Its just more confusing and cluttered to mix tabs and address bar on the same bar. It will be a pain when multiple tabs are open.

Also on iPad, I can't find the way to bring the tab view by tapping the icon? Can't find it anywhere and also, I don't know the gesture to easily switch between tabs like shown for the iPhone on the WWDC video...

Yeah I agree! I actually liked the balance between simplicity & practicality of the previous Safari app. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it comes to mind!

Perhaps they could automatically centre the currently open tab which would keep the address bar in the centre, but this could be quite frustrating as well with lots of tabs open. Honestly I would rather just keep the old way + fine tuning and added features.

I like the gestures to switch between tabs by swiping. However my understanding is this is only on iPhone, hence why you can’t find it on iPad (or maybe I’m mistaken?).

The web version of Instagram won’t load for me in the new Safari on iPad, it goes into a login loop and tries to open the iPad Instagram app which is terrible, but otherwise I do like the new safari, it’s going to take some getting used to having the address bar at the bottom on the phone though. It definitely loads pages faster for me so far.
I have had this intermittent problem on iOS 14 and one of my friends has the same on Android. This is Facebook's fault, not iOS.

The new Safari takes some time to get used to, but the changes make a lot of sense.

Even the address/search bar moving around depending on location of tab?
That seems like it could be frustrating when switching between many tabs.

They ruined the bookmarks tab on iOS 15. Should have remained in the lower right as all previous years. Now it's in the upper left and requires the additional step of taping the address bar. Unbelievable.

Pull down to refresh is great but not being able to tap the refresh button (with one step) is extremely stupid in my opinion. Most often I want to refresh when at the bottom of the page. (I.e. See a new post on a thread etc)

Is the refresh button hidden on the iPad as well?

I’m not on the beta, so obviously I haven’t tried out the new Safari but I do have quite a few concerns about usability and visibility of controls, especially for those who are less tech savvy than me.

Screens are getting bigger and devices more sophisticated yet it seems everything gets hidden away with each update. The iPad should become more like a computer (whilst retaining its ease of use) instead of hiding every single function under one button/share sheet.

Simple but practical becomes so simple it actually becomes complicated!

reload requiring two steps is so odd. It is the same way on the Mac now.

Is there any performance improvements with web apps/games like MyVEGAS on Facebook? Not sure what the game uses maybe JavaScript?

MyVEGAS is different on the web from the iOS app.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I think I came across a bug.
When typing into the URL bar from an existing site tab. If the site has a popup it will pull you out of the url typing and back to the site.

In this case it was a news site with the typical video popup

overall I still don't really like this new safari.

I wasn't a fan at first, but I am liking it now. Has grouped tabs always been a thing on Macs? I think it's really good for separating work/personal work spaces.

Can you not still just tap the Status bar to jump to the top? Additional question for someone who still has an iPhone 8, does that still work on Notched devices?

It makes a lot of sense to me personally. It's not moving around arbitrarily; it's integrated with the tab. If I want to change the address of the current tab, I just click on the tab.

It's obviously a very love/hate kind of design though and takes getting used to. Kind of like Safari 4 with the tabs above the address bar. That only lasted one version. I could certainly see the next Safari reverting back if enough people really hate it.

Ah, Tabs on top! The last time Apple did something funky with tabs. I remember this being launched to much fanfare before being quietly ditched in the next version.

I don’t like it on iPad, they combined everything into menus. More tapping to get anything done. The tabs which are now the sites address bar look silly at the top and are harder to navigate in my opinion. The current safari on 14.6 is much easier to use, better looking, and doesn’t crash. Sometimes it’s better to leave what’s working alone.

On the iPad.. Safari takes some getting used to. I like the new keyboard shortcut, but what has been omitted is the lack of a back and forward shortcut. Unless I’m missing something.

But for the most part, I’m enjoying the new experience.

I really don’t understand the need to combine tabs and adress bar on the same bar (especially on ipad) when all of this will disappear when you scroll down a web page. Like you said, even the simplest things to do are now more complicated on ipad. They even don’t include the gestures to easily switch between tabs on ipad…

My muscle memory keeps wanting to reach for the top to enter a URL, but I think it’s for the best that the address bar is at the bottom now.

They are there, but i still like the trackpad gesture better (two finger swipe).
