I don't think it's hate, deferent people like deferent devices and deferent OP
whats good that we have a chose, if you like the X it's ok go buy it if you like
the 8 or S8 go and buy it.
what I like about this forum is to read the deferent people ideas, hope the manufacturers reading it too

My only real complaint is price. When compared to similar devices from competitors, there's just too much of a markup. I bought one, use it daily, and overall enjoy using it, but If I'm honest with myself I should've kept the 6s plus. My wife has an 8; neither of use thinks this thing is $350 better than the phone she has.

You’re right. The consumer just needs to purchase what they like and everybody has a different concept of what they find appealing to them with a smart phone. Rather be hardware, software etc. we all have different choices, it’s just some of our choices don’t make sense to others of what we like, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

The thing is, there’s no other device on the market at present that you can compare with the iPhone X. The display and face detection technology alone is worth the extra money. But again, that’s a personal opinion / choice. “Worth” is always relative.

Is a BMW 5 Series worth $20,000 more than a Honda Accord which is the same size and moves the same amount of passengers on the same roads from Point A to Point B?

The answer is in the brand image, the product styling, and the functional details. To many, the X is worth every penny of the $350 difference in that context.

I think the better analogy is whether a 5 Series GT (an abomination) should command a premium over a 5 Series Saloon, both have the same engine, suspension yet some pay more for the GT, form over function.

I accept of course that some have money to burn.

That’s a very good analogy as like the iPhone X, I don’t see many 5 Series GT’s on the roads in Britain, it’s a rare product. Every salesman owns a 5 Series though it seems. I don’t think the X is as ugly as that car though, but it’s a premium version of another phone with added features and styling that a lot of people don’t think warrants a higher price.

An iPhone is an iPhone in the vast majority of people’s eyes and unless the person is a mobile phone enthusiast, it’s not going to make any difference to anybody else what model you have.

The X is a brand new, completely modern phone design. The 6/7/8 are very old, very tired phone designs.

The comparison is valid from a design standpoint.

Should we call it hate everytime says the iPhone 8 and 8+ are old devices? Not everyone needs to like what you choose as your phone. Its not hate, just a difference of opinion. Does it bother you when someone chooses a different model car, jeans, or watch than yourself? Of course not, so just enjoy your new phone and let others voice their opinions equally. The world would be a boring place if we all had the same thoughts.

The difference is that non X owners are flooding these threads with the same comments over and over again. I don't jump into every 8 or 8 Plus thread and comment that I think the design is dated....

I dunno, maybe non owners should not flood every X thread with hate and negativity? Just a thought...

Point taken, but this thread is asking people why the hate so it's naturally going to get different opinions.

I think every iPhone, no matter what model it is, will have its upsides and downsides. The iPhone X is no exception, it’s a great phone, but it’s not without its flaws and imperfections. But that’s how all technology is in general. I think iPhone X is a great device, but there are plenty of improvements that need to be refined with Face ID, display improvements, ect.

I like the phone, but ultimately, I don't feel that much more productive or premium than the 6S I upgraded from.

It's definitely a flawed product... that no one here will admit (FaceID is not "flawless", the notch is a questionable design choice whether or not you "like" it or have gotten used to it). Overall, it doesn't feel fully baked.

There’s a couple of issues with the X for sure. It’s an okay phone but it’s not the paradigm shift the original iPhone represented.

iPhone 8 = $700 ($300 difference)
iPhone 8 Plus = $800 ($200 difference)
Galaxy S9 = $800-$850 (rumored) ($150-$200 difference)
Galaxy S9+ = $900-$950 (rumored) ($100-$50 difference)
Galaxy Note 8 = $950 ($50 difference)
iPhone X = $999

I don't see the X as being that far from the new normal as far as major brand flagships and pricing goes. I do think the X is $100 overpriced though. I think $899 is about right for it and if it were priced there maybe there would be less hate.
