This is worth noting. I really wish Apple would focus on the speed of interactions with the phone. Having to tap or swipe several times before it responds really messes with the flow.

It started with iOS 7.0, which is brutal. The animations wouldn't let you do anything until they were settled, and then another 1/2 second. Some people claimed they didn't notice, but 6 months later when 7.1 came out and gave back some of the speed, it was quite evident how bad 7.0 was.

Funny thing... I remember back in the day there used to be charts showing the response time of the touchscreens used in the flagship phones. Apple's were always the best, though these were measured in tens of milliseconds. Now, the phone goes unresponsive for 1000 ms at a time, and many people seem unconcerned.

I suspect that I just use the phone more quickly than most. Muscle memory lives long!

I remember buying the iPhone 5 and the thing was literally impossible to lag on iOS 6. Everything flew.

I'm the type of a person that's extremely sensitive to lag and fps drops. I have been known to drop game settings to medium or low just to have that 60 fps, and sadly iOS 9 has made my 6+ almost unusable. There's 500-1000ms delay on virtually every app launch, keyboard stutters etc. it's ridiculous that 1 year old phone could become this bad with the new OS. Feels almost as bad as some of the android 'updates'

Interesting. I have zero lag in comparison to iOS 8, on my 5S. Nor on my iPad Air. Haven't run into any issues at all actually.

I've been trawling through the forums trying to find an answer as to why my iPad Air 2 is so laggy on iOS9. I found a post that suggested using "reset all settings", so I tried it, and hey presto, it was buttery smooth. I proceeded to put all my settings back to normal by setting my wallpaper to dynamic, as it was before, and there it was, the lag was back. Changed back to a static wallpaper on my home screen, and again buttery smooth.

Could the other people with lag be using a dynamic wallpaper like me?

Made no difference on iOS8, but dynamic wallpaper kills performance for me.

There is definitely lag on both of my devices. My iPhone 6 plus isn't so bad, but my iPad Air, the lag can get annoying. I did turn "reduce motion" on and that seem to have helped a little, but its not buttery smooth like some people keep saying here. hope 9.1 fixes these issues. So much for Metal helping bring this smooth performance that Apple kept bragging about.

I'll chime in: both my iPad Mini 3 and iPhone 6+ lags like crazy. Opening ANY apps, built-in or 3rd party takes longer. Swiping the notification center takes longer. Double-tapping the Home button takes longer to bring the app list. And so on..

Reboot, turn off, etc. doesn't do jack...

I did both upgrade with OTA from 8.4 to 9.0. I have done upgrades before and NEVER seen this kind of lag or stutter.

I haven't tried wiping the iPhone and do a restore yet, because I am pondering if restoring the iPhone will bring the lag back. I mean, whatever caused the lag will probably get backed up too, wouldn't it?

BTW, those that experienced the lagging as, did you upgrade via OTA or iTunes?

My 5s seems to running pretty smooth w/ iOS 9; nothing major to report. My iPad 4th gen has some lag especially when I go into the app switcher. Also, I have a bug that sometimes when I change the volume the little animation doesn't come onto the screen showing my volume go up or down.

This is ridiculous. I am getting lag in safari, in the app switcher, and the control center. When I tried to quit all my apps, and hard restart, all previously closed apps re appeared in the appswitcher when my phone came back on. I tried the same thing again, except this time I waited about 2 minutes after quitting all the apps to restart- but the same thing happened again when my phone came back on again. Some of you will claim my phone is still "indexing", but it's been about 5 hours since I installed iOS 9. And I have 8/16 GB free on my iPhone, so it couldn't have had much to "index" anyway. This is pathetic @apple. iOS 8.0, and 7.0 were just as much of a disappointment. You'd think that after 2 years, and even an extended (public) beta which resulted in even more feedback, Apple would've managed to release a smooth, stable version of iOS. Especially after Craig Federihi stood on stage at WWDC and talked about great performance improvements we would be seeing in iOS 9. Also, you can sit and recommend that I do a clean install, but I shouldn't have to lose everything just for a lag free OS. I'm seriously disappointed in Apple, because mediocrity seems to be a new pattern they're following

Absolutely no lag or anything negative to report here, but hey, why not just assume everybody is experiencing exactly the same issues as yourself. You know what they say when you assume things. Apple have done a great job in my book.

I bet you installed from a backup? Ever thought there might be something in the backup that is giving you issues?

If you really want to test it out, do a clean install, not from a backup, then make a report.

Apps were crashing for me, thought I would do a restart. The freezing and lag are back after the restart. I'll try a clean install and see how it goes.

My iPod touch 6g is mostly smooth on iOS 9, but spotlight search stutters really badly. I've tried rebooting it but that did nothing so I guess I'll just wait until 9.1 to see if that fixes it.

So I haven't noticed too much lag but there definitely is some. When pulling down from the home screen to get the search bar you see some stutter and also when you double click the home button and get the card menu up. When you scroll through those cards especially the home menu card I definitely see some lag. Wonder if I should revert back to 8.4 - is there a way to revert back?

Really now? Have you read any other forum topics or tech blogs or articles before regarding technology? For instance, just recent. Some folks with iPhone 6 and iOS 9 cant run WhatsApp app and others with exact same device and iOS can. Its a crap shoot whether or not it will work. Purely based on the developer getting it updated to support iOS 9. So yes, identical devices with identical software CAN behave differently. Nothing new there. Not just Apple just ask Windows 10 insiders.

I read tech forums and tech blogs all the time. In fact I have written for one on a few occasions.

If one iPhone 6 cannot run an app another iPhone 6 can (assuming locations are the same etc.), it's defective. End of conversation. Two FULLY FUNCTIONING versions of the same iOS device, with the same software and state, will run near enough identical. Near enough, at least, when it comes to smoothness/lag.

iOS 9: iPhone 5 - lag free.
iOS 9.1 Beta 1: iPhone 6 - lag free, iPad Air - Multitasking scrolling is choppy. Going to restore it.

The fact that you are so vehemently trash-talking other users and Apple hardware and software is worrying to me. I think you need to seek the help, say, from an Apple Genius. You have to start somewhere.

If what I have said is 'trash-talking' to you, you need to get out more.
