Here's the thing, people really, REALLY need to stop saying that they are experiencing lag and assuming that because they do everyone does and it's an iOS wide issue for all.
I have to clarify that I am not an iOS 9 user yet. I think I started my iOS experience since 3.x or so. All the way up to iOS 7 I was no hesitater to upgrade my idevices whenever a public update was released. While there were ups and downs with all those updates, my general impression was that I did the right thing except for iOS 7. From there, I started to wait for a while before upgrading because believe it or not, quality of every release starting with 7 was NOT on par with previous ones. If you search for the forum you can definitely find a lot of thread asking how iOS 7, 8, 9 is holding up on people's devices.

Yes, a person can only represent himself only. But when you look at the data statistically, you would have an conclusion. The best example recently was that the star rating for Yosemite was only 3.5 while El Capitan is 4.5. You can pick up any review lower than 3 star of Yosemite and say the same thing I quoted here. But that doesn't change the fact that these days people are becoming more and more cautious when upgrading their idevices.

I'm always cautious when upgrading firmware on every device especially my computer. It's a risk no doubt. But with that caution I reflect one-nanosecond and dive in and do it.:D

Major LOL at people implying iOS 6 on an iPhone 5 was faster than iOS 9 is on a 6S. Get real.
For people who disagree with him, he is right in a way. If you do real speed test like a boot test, opening apps, encoding videos, open multiple safari pages, etc, yeah the 6S crush the iPhone 5, iOS 6 or not. However if you talk about overall smoothness of the OS (animations, stuttering) then yeah the iPhone 5 on iOS 6 is definetly better than the 6S on iOS 9.

There are those who obsess over stutter. I don't. iOS 9 is a huge leap from iOS 8. It may not be as stutter free as iOS 6 but where there is stutter is not in any critical place, imo. It did take Apple two operating system cycles to get here, but they are now on a solid foundation.

iOS 9 on iPhone 5 is much better than iOS 7 on iPhone 4 (where there is a similar relationship between hardware and software release dates). For that I am glad. iPhone 5 is probably the first iPhone which will get a full 4 years with the latest iOS releases without taking a significant hit.

I agree.

Safari is night and day compared to iOS 8. On my 6+, Safari would crash multiple times a day. On iOS 9, no crashes. That alone is worth the upgrade to me.

Looks like you haven't tried any of the betas. That's why Apple provided the Feedback Assistant app with beta versions.

So you're saying I didn't submit my feedback? I did submit feedback about it, but that didn't change anything. I was talking about how most people on this forum couldn't care less about performance issues in the beta because it was a BETA and how it would definitely be fixed in the final version when the beta stuff wasn't running in the background. Now I know they were full of crap.

True.
From 6S onwards it would be very difficult for Apple to bring down the performance with every year's iOS update. It's becoming like Windows or Mac hardware. If Apple do bring down these mighty devices by iOS 12 or 13, people will see straight through their bull$$$t.

I wonder for how long can Apple force convince us to buy new iDevice every year?

Btw, my 5S and Air 2 stutter. AIR 2 stutters on iOS 9.0.2. Come freakkking on!! Devices far less powerful than Air 2 can handle Windows 10 animations without stuttering. Apple has clearly not done enough with their promises.

I can take the lag frankly, especially when Apple does its job well to make the lag feel like not the lag. And you always have the safe confines of better hardware to offset any lag from previous generation. But what I can never accept is the terrible terrible stutter! I mean what the f is Craig Federighi doing? How can the Apple engineers be so careless with coding? iOS 8.0 that I can remember of didn't have the stutter! After that sadly, it's been pretty downhill! iOS 9 without doubt is their least polished release till date!

Btw I forgot to mention. In every update's release notes Apple fixes things which no one had complained about and blatantly ignores the core issues like stutter, lag, etc.

For example, people were shouting from rooftop that Weather App in iOS 8 stuttered right from 8.0 to 8.4.1.
Apple fixed it in iOS 9. Took them 1 year. A simple point update would have been better to fix it and shut up the complainers forever. Btw, Safari keyboard stutter on Air 1 was never fixed, even in iOS 9.

Leads us only to believe that they just don't care enough. iOS is slowly getting too big and unmanageable for their own good.

Not sure if everyone experiences this but on my 6 there is a stutter every time I scroll down my recent calls menu

I don't know where it all went wrong. But I think Apple has messed up their smooth scrolling code.

iOS lags like hell when scrolling, especially media rich apps.

Now, even El Capitan Lags when scrolling in safari. It's a joke. and I have 32GB of RAM, so it's not lack of RAM.

VERY LAGGY on iPad 4th gen. I want a new one now but they didn't release a new Air 3 this year. Guess I have to wait another year.

Then why do I feel like I traded one set of bugs for a different set of bugs?

Weather app? There is a reason I installed BeWeather. The default weather app never seems to get my area right. Has been that way since 6.x

With smart coding you can pretty much mitigate or even erase the unpleasantness that lag brings.. However stutter is something so ugly, it completely brings down the user experience by causing breaks in your work flow.

Saw this on my 6 Plus but haven't seen it on the 6S Plus.

Why do I feel like many of these issues are because the OS was optimized to work best with >1 GB of RAM?
Doubt thats the case as on my Air 2 for the first time ever since I bought it last December I saw it lag when I unlocked it and when I open a folder and it zooms in.iOS 9 just was developed for the S series and the iPad Pro with not much attention being devoted to even slightly older products

Yep, pretty much hate using twitter apps now since the scrolling is so bad even on my iPhone 6S. My iPad air 2 is just abysmal on iOS 9. Yet my iPhone 5 on iOS 8.4.1 is scrolling through twitter at a smooth 60 FPS no stutter. Does Apple see anything wrong with this? Im not an Android user, I cant tolerate it, LOL.
