Mine does and Apple is going to replace it. Also had a scuff above the charging port out of the box and a yellowish screen.

Yep, mine does this too unfortunately. :/ Oh well, everything else about the unit seems fine though so I'm reluctant to swap it over this but we'll see what plays out.

Is anyone else's Iphone 7 plus creaking? Noticed it when pressing next to the home button.
Took it out the case and if you grab the top and bottom it will creak with slight movement or the smallest twist.
They all do it I checked out 6 units at the store.... no point it's something to do with the way it's made

That's interesting. Thanks for the update. I noticed in the ifixit tear down that the phone is hinged differently in the 7. Opens on the left side? Maybe that has something to do with it.

My iPhone 7 Plus was delivered today.

Just upgraded to iOS 10.0.1. In doing so, the back of the phone got very hot and I got the hissing sound recently reported over the processor.

Is this a defect or a quirk of the A10 Fusion?

Has anyone contacted Apple or replaced their iPhone 7 Plus because of it?

It's an audible CPU utilization feature. Without looking at your phone you can now easily tell if your phone is busy working or lazily idling.

You should have separated out the options for yes. Some can hear it under normal conditions and others only hear it if they put their ear up to their phone in a quiet room.

A hiss is a Hiss is Hiss. if such a condition did not occur under ANY condition before then A hiss in any ONE condition makes it an issue

Have had my 7 plus for a day now and I couldn't notice any noise, even when running multiple apps and downloading my music at the same time. Absolutely love it.

How do we know its not just the "seashell effect"? Wind/air reflecting against your phone into your ear? :p

If you can't hear it unless you put the back of your phone against your ear, I don't think it's that big of an issue..

Not everyone has the same hearing sensivity. Some will hear it at a distance while others might need to be closer but either way the hissing is present when it shouldn't occur on low power electronics if properly designed.

What if Apple hid a little fan in the 7, and the "cosmetic" speaker grille is the air intake/output? :p

ps. I'm just joking. :)

I have a theory for why the iPhone 7 hisses under load. A resistor works by using all the extra energy to produce very quiet audio. It is usually a ringing sound but it can be different. It usually does this when the CPU is being us a lot. The CPU might underclock itself when it isn't under load. When it is, it maxes out the clock speed and uses more energy but is drawing slightly more than it needs. So how does it avoid being fried? Thats where the resistor comes in. It helps keep the phone from overheating and ruining your brand new phone.

Now why don't they just lower the amount of power? It doesn't really work that way. They can't determine the exact amount it will need very easily so they get the lowest working amount of energy and the CPU and resistor take care of the unused energy. You might be thinking, "if the cpu can take care of it then why do they need a resistor?" If they removed the resistor than the cpu would overheat. Why? The reason the CPU heats up is because it is getting rid of unused energy. Too much can cause the internals to reach melting point and no more CPU.

Looking at iFixit's teardown, you see they don't label the resistor. Why the heck would they need to? Literally every electronic has one and people rarely need to replace a resistor because they rarely fail. Even when they do, there is very little way of telling what type of resistor it is. Using the wrong type can either fry the CPU because it gets to hot, or cause it to have trouble running because the resistor is getting rid of too much.

This hissing noise is not new either. There are reports of previous iPhones and probably even androids hissing. It is because of that resistor. It could even be multiple resistors. And if people are more concerned with this hissing than not having a headphone jack, Apple did a great job this year.

iPhone 6 had bendgate and that was a real problem because it bent so easily at one point. The 6s had chipgate and that really wasn't a big deal because it wouldn't make much of a difference. If the iPhone 7's hissgate is all we can come up with, the iPhone 7 is a really good phone. Hissgate is literally no big deal because it is very hard to hear and isn't ruining anything. In fact, it's helping your phone.

I can't shoot a 4K video or any video in a quiet room without hearing the hissing noise during playback.

And that's good how?

I LOVE my jet black 256gb 7+ .... but c'mon, I've owned every iPhone since the original in 2007 and have never heard of hissing or anything like I do on this phone.

It's a problem. Period.
