This is actually why i never got the gear fit, dont really want to have something like a smart watch/band and locked to a specific set of devices/OS, totally understand and yeah if apple added an S pen alternative that would be huge in my book but i dont think whe going to see it i dont think it fits on the whole design they have going on with the iphone.

I understand that but I do like my gear and I use it alot when out and about when I can't be bothered to get my big phone out. I find it hard to see the big phone coming out this year. I see too many issues production wise.

I can't see ever leaving the note line.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised too if they added a stylus type accessory that came directly with the phone. It's just too "nerd" for their image. I think they'd rather break their backs working to make everything a stylus would do just as easy with a finger. At least that's the angle their PR department will spin :D

i was hoping for more. the biggest change i see is addition of third party keyboard. the app extensibility sounds interesting. hopefully we can add more than just pictures when composing email. though still no real file manager.

T9 dialing. neither windows nor ios have it! why!!!! this is a basic functionality that ALL phones should have.

not sure if i like the widgets being restricted to notification area. notification area should be small bits of information. widgets will take up more space in the area. i can see a lot of scrolling....

LOl......I don't see anyway in h*** they will ever release a phone with a stylus! :D It would be a PR nightmare for them........

The last 3 WWDCs have all been features that Apple is copying from Android.

Is it surprising? No, Android has been ahead of iOS in terms of features, usability, and stability for years.

It it disappointing? In one sense, yes. Apple, who is a huge, rich powerhouse with billions of dollars at their whim is holding huge press conferences to show off the latest and greatest.... which ends up barely bringing their offerings in line with that of the market leader. ...and yes, the fact that they are suing every competitor that they can find does say a lot about the mindset in management.

Those of you who profess your dislike of Android and refuse to acknowledge iOS's stagnance in the realm of innovation this many years in have more loyalty than objectivity or intellectual honesty. Try not to take it too personally when others criticize your inability to recognize mediocrity.

At the end of the day, it is good that Apple is making an effort of shoring up iOS's shortcomings. It seems that the wiser voices inside Cupertino are starting to prevail. Implementation of Android's features, soon a larger device, and the purchase of Beats... Apple will never come out and say it (they make snide jokes instead), but they sure are acting like they are afraid that they have lost their cool.

Good.... maybe after they are done playing catch-up they will come out with some new stuff that lights a fire under MS and Google's butts.

I frequent other forums as many of you guys do and there's a lot of positive feedback over at wpcentral regarding iOS8. Many of them give credit to Apple upping the ante.

I'd not disagree but by the same token, I still stand by my words and that its not something that will draw me back

I was hoping they open Control center to devs as welll
Oh this they need to do, really they just have to. That thing is such a wasted opportunity otherwise. At least let the user choose between a bunch of functions...for me a insta toggle for wifi hotspot, please!

Seriously the last 4 -5 pages are just you guys bickering ... It's an embarrassment.

Apologies - I'm not a fan of having my posts twisted and misrepresented.

I would trust most here would know who's making sense and who's not, but.....sometimes I feel its better to be straightforward.

I tried not to "bicker" - simply to make simple, concise statements of fact.

Anyhow, nothing to fear now ;)

I may have missed it Maflynn, but what WOULD draw you back?

Genuinely curious.

I've been switching back from ios and android for the past few years. Currently on the 5s and was thinking about switching back to android but sticking with it since the IOS8 announcement.

IOS is playing "catchup" to a lot of features that android and windows have. The involvement of third party API helps a lot and some inclusive ios features look promising. Seriously thinking of giving up my jailbreak for it.

After doing the Android thing for a year or so I'm tempted. I'm going to take a good hard look at the iPhone 6 and iOS 8, but now that the gap has closed a bit between the two (Swiftkey, slightly larger screen, rounded edges) I'm considering switch back. It doesn't hurt that I'll probably be switching my work laptop from a PC to a Macbook in the near future and some of the integration features looks REALLY appealing in an office environment.

This is the first version of iOS I have been excited about since iOS 4 which launched 4 years ago if that says anything. Apple really added some polish and it has even surpassed Android in some ways I think.

I tend to appreciate what all platforms have to offer, and if foxxcon is right and they are making a 4.7 inch iPhone, I may have just found my new phone. Like I said, first time apple has made me excited for something in quite a while.

The one thing that would tempt me back to iOS is the one thing Apple will never do - Be less proprietary and understand that not everyone has the full Apple "stack" of products

For example, iMessage and Facetime should be available on Windows and Android; media purchased from iTunes should be playable on an Android device or an alternative TV box ; iCloud photos should work with Windows phones and Android devices, etc, etc

As things stand at the moment, I get the impression that unless you are completely invested in the Apple ecosystem you're not getting the full experience from their products

I understand a more "open" Apple is never going to happen so I guess I'll never go back to iOS :)

I echo many of these sentiments.

I'm not full on Apple and I likely never will be, so I don't really get the continuity features - which were very slick and nice. Probably the biggest thing to come out of iOS8.

iCloud drive seems interesting and like something I've been waiting for, but again I'd rather substitute Dropbox or OneDrive with the same functionality. iCloud just doesn't work as well cross platform.

I suppose Apple could just make a consumer grade tower with upgradable, standard parts (and a regular consumer grade desktop gpu, no mobile, no integrated, no workstation cards).. then I could get onboard Mac...Call it the iMac killer :p

Some cool features but I'm not so heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem anymore so I guess most of it will pass be by.

I'll always have a Mac, but hardly use my iPad 2 anymore (which would no doubt get even slower with iOS8), and am quite content with my Android phone.

I thought for a moment that Eyebrows would introduce a Swype/SwiftKey like keyboard instead of predictive input though (I'm sure that murmur from the crowd was because they thought the same).

Also I like the integration between products, specifically answering calls on my laptop. Wonder if/when there'll be a workaround for Yosemite/Android.

Definitely into iOS 8. All reasons for me to jailbreak are gone now, certainly by introducing instant reply. The only thing left to go the JB way is the theming part. It's not going to be an easy decision though, as the icons are still so damn ugly in iOS 8, according to me. Especially the photo app icon... I wish they would've updated some icons, but well, that's like admitting they were wrong in iOS 7.

Any reason why Apple does not allow buying apps on web like playstore and appstore. I would like to buy Splashtop 2 now. I can't do it until I go back to my ipad (home). I can access browser (office, phone) most of the time.

I have to admit, iOS8 does look like a huge improvement.

My biggest problem is that so much of it looks, to me, like they're just doing what Android has done for a while.

Well yeah......but they never give you close to the full enchilada. They give you a few things to entise you thinking they are making strides. Then when Google comes out with their new OS, it pulls even further away from iOS because it takes them a year to bring out something new.

I agree with the guy above. Ive gotton rid of a couple of Apple products and only have a first gen iPod that i use sparingly and a Macbook Pro so ill never get the full intregration. I use my Yoga 11S most of the time and my Nexus 5 and my phone is the biggest thing i use of them all.

I just cant go back to Apple as far as the phone is concerned. They still have a ways to go before that happens and with Google pushing ahead, it probably never will. However, i never say never. When i feel i wont have to jailbreak the iPhone is when ill consider it.

Gotta say, one thing Apple should do is get rid of those dots and go back to the small vertical lines to show the strength of the signal . It takes up too much space and also get rid of the network name up there too. You know what network you are on. It takes up too much space as well.
Now i say that so you can see notification icons better and get more of them but i dont know if iOS allows that many as Android does. I just think it is ridiculous to have the network name up there.

I am personally glad these companies are continually improving and pushing ahead, they all drive each other which is good for consumers.

They're leaving that to the creators of such keyboards to then put up on the app store for use system wide.

But the fall, we'll see all the major keyboards on the iOS store I would think. Too big a market (500 million iPhones, 200 million iPads, 100 million iPod touches) to pass up.

I'm all for this, but not so they can replace it with more clutter.

De-clutter the bar, cool. But then don't add a bunch of little icons that don't mean anything to me.

My biggest problem is that so much of it looks, to me, like they're just doing what Android has done for a while.

Look at the implementations of some of the features - and also realize that what you see as "copying Android" is simply Apple adopting a more open philosophy. One that Android has at its core, and many OSes have had before it.

Really not about "copying Android features" - more about being open like an Android, or webOS etc.

They're trusting their users (and devs) with more. I think we're all happy about that.

If you have Apple products, no need to even toggle anything.

It just works ;):p

But seriously - I wanted to go back to an LTE iPad because setting up the hotspot was too inconvenient. With the continuity features and the fact that my iPad will just "know" my phone is there to connect to is freaking awesome and will likely save me $130+tax.

.

Im not talking about cluttter. Im talking abut things that are more useful than showing your network that you dont need to see.
