Thank you very much for the update. SpiderWeb version 2.2.2/60.9.0 for Mac OS X 10.6 32-bit (release 01/13/21) installs and runs flawlessly. In fact, SpiderWeb works so well that it is now my favorite browser under Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I use only two add-ons in SpiderWeb: uBlock0-libre-1.16.4.8 and the recommended GitHub Web Components Polyfill by JustOff. Unfortunately, the latter add-on can only be installed up to version 1.1.6. SpiderWeb refuses to update to the newer version 1.1.7 because it is incompatible with SpiderWeb 60.9.0. I can’t judge if version 1.1.7 brings significant advantages, I can only say that version 1.1.6 works fine so far.

Unfortunately, the included themes can no longer be used, because since the update SpiderWeb notes that they are no longer compatible. In itself, however, this is not a big problem, because the Basic Theme not only looks good, it also works best with SpiderWeb, but it is of course a pity.

1. Take the .xpi file of the Theme you want to use, open it in a zip application (I use BetterZip)
2. Do not unpack, but in the window that opens select the file called install.rdf
3. Using the contextual menu, open it in a text editor (I use TextWrangler)
4. Add this where it belongs:
Code:
<!-- SpiderWeb -->
            <em:targetApplication>
            <Description>
                <em:id>{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}</em:id>
                <em:minVersion>0.0*</em:minVersion>
                <em:maxVersion>60.*</em:maxVersion>
            </Description>
        </em:targetApplication>
(or if it's already there, edit 2.* or whatever, to 60.*)

5. Save (1st time)
6. Close window in zip application --> Save (2nd time)
7. In SpiderWeb/Add-ons Manager, remove the old Theme
8. Open new tab, drag the modified .xpi file to it
9. In Add-ons Manager select your newly installed Theme, restart SW
10. Enjoy.

Btw, this procedure can be applied to lots of Extensions that at first try don't work in SW, so you might be able to do that with your Polyfill.

Thank you very much for your reply, RobJos. I will have to try that out soon. :cool:

Ok, so it seems maybe i did start updating spiderweb for 10.6 at some point and must have forgot i did so. Oops. This did cause the version to change which broke some themes and extensions from installing. Thanks for pointing it out. I've fixed all the themes and extensions and uploaded the whole archive again. Also included the newer polyfill 1.1.7 with it. Just download the whole spiderweb-2.2.2-mac.zip again from the same link to get all the fixed add-ons/themes.

Cheers

Thank you very much for fixing the themes and extensions and uploading the whole archive again. Great idea to add the Polyfill add-on to the download package. This way you get the whole archive with all installable items presented clearly and very user-friendly in just one folder in the Finder. I have already installed the Polyfill add-on, I will have a look at the themes later. :)

For those not following the new early intel macs thread, there is yet another browser available for 10.6.
@wicknix: Nice to see that you're busy with SnL, but for those of us with way too little time at hand, could you explain briefly what the advantage might be going over to your SnowMonkey as opposed to using Arctic Fox + SpiderWeb (and a Linux VM for those sites that are stubbornly “modern”)?

Thx for the link to the new thread, looks like lots of good stuff will come out of there.

No real advantage. It's basically spiderweb with a few extra bells and whistles. Like composer. Built from the same backend source so it won't render any better or worse either. User preference mostly.

Cheers

I think I'll pass then, done with developing websites in this lifetime. But if you do bring improvements to SnowMonkey on the browser side that you don't implement in SW, may I ask you to let us know?

Good opportunity to ask: is there a chance that we'll see this, the ipfs:// protocol that Brave has just adopted implemented someday in SpiderWeb?

if I right click and select down '..save link as' it saves a file named view.. which takes me thru the same as clicking on download.

Ive tried it with Interweb and ArticFox. Not sure how to get it to download.

Gave up trying to post on the site.. always have probs proving Im not a robot...GRRRR!

Hi,

I've been using ArcticFox as my default browser for years with InterWeb aside to get bad sites.

I've to switch more often, so I'm trying to use InterWeb only, to see and I found a problem with google pages (I know google is often the guilty with our maintained fox browsers).

The menu bar of main google page in AF in the upper right corner :

Capture d’écran 2021-04-15 à 12.49.38.jpg

The (black)menu bar of main Google page in IW in the upper left corner :

Capture d’écran 2021-04-15 à 12.49.57.jpg

For now it's just a different interface...

But, if I want play.google, I get this with AF

Capture d’écran 2021-04-15 à 12.50.54.jpg

And that with IW, the main black menu bar upside overrides all the play.google menu and impossible to do something like "Search".

Capture d’écran 2021-04-15 à 12.50.26.jpg

For information this is the same with SpiderWeb.

I tried to proceed with about:config and modified the useragent values, including "general.useragent.override.google.com" the same that in AF ( without any effect.

Any idea to progress ?

Thanks for your help.

So, this targets the 10.6 SDK, but is it built as an Universal or, better yet, a PowerPC binary? It would be interesting to see attempts of running this on the PPC 10.6 alphas of Snow Leopard.

I don't know play.google alternatives to update paid android applications or others.

Some developpers have their site, f-droid, etc. but it's hard to avoid google.

Now, I've a problem to see odysee.com videos that YT censures, I got a message error since a 4 days. Every browsers I know under 10.6 give the same error.

Anyway I keep 10.6.

I don't often come across stuff posted on odysee, but Sebaro's ViewTube and SaveTube let me download about any videos from anywhere, if not with AF then with SF. Yes, we definitely keep 10.6, but I wouldn't be able to manage without my Linux installation + Pale Moon & the latest Firefox.

The play.google page is not a big deal as AF do the job. I'm just a little surprise about the way SW and IW manage that page.

My main problem, now, is odysee, the only alternative I know for censored YT videos. Some are available via faceB of creators pages, but not all.

I'll try SeaMonkey.

Edit : Actually, you meant SnowMonkey I guess ;)

Odd that it displays correctly in AF though which is an older code base than SW and IW.
My assumption would be that AF lacks some feature which causes the Google Play website to use a polyfill or at least a different code path. On IW it uses the newer feature but it doesn't work quite right for whatever reason.

For my odysee problem I mailed their assistance and wait for a solution.
Hope this can be of some help. On this page the embedded video is hosted on Odysee — the good Québecoise there had to move some of her stuff to it because, like so many others, she was getting censored out of YouTube. In SW, after telling NoScript! to temporarily accept all scripts, there was no problem watching it. But as I always download all videos, in this case both SaveTube+ and DownThemAll only could fetch a useless 330-byte .mp4 instead of the ≈36Mb file (finally managed to get it in YouTube, not censored yet). Same result from the Odysee platform itself. In AF, maybe because I use NoScript! in a different way, I couldn't get anything to work, and (rather unusual) AF ended up crashing.
