Supposedly, this will open on May 27, 2024: https://arstechnica.com/culture/202...estored-star-trek-1701-d-bridge-opens-in-may/ ("The restored Star Trek Enterprise-D bridge goes on display in May
The bridge is going on display at Sci-Fi World Musem in Santa Monica, California.")

I haven't followed the saga of its restoration. I'll need to hear if it's legit and worth visiting before make the ~330 mile trek there...
Terry Matalas posted this:

The person there posted a pointer to this crazy story about it from the LA Times:
"Santa Monica sci-fi museum controversy: A child porn conviction, delays and angry 'Star Trek' fans" :O

Variety: In another casting coup, the upcoming Paramount+ series "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" has cast Emmy winner and multiple Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti in a recurring guest role as the first season's main villain, who has a sinister connection to the past of one of the (yet to be cast) cadets.

They are getting some A-list actors for this show.

The return of Nicholas Locarno?

Further, could this also fuel some after story involving Boothby?

After some recent events, including a trip where I think well more than half of the people on the subway did nothing but stare at their phones, it brought to mind the TNG episode, "The Game," which was eerily prescient about how absorbed people can be with their devices.

To jog memories, it was one of two episodes a young Ashley Judd appeared on, and, Wesley wasn't terribly annoying. :D

On that note, there's an FB page https://www.facebook.com/EveryTNGFrameInOrder that literally does just that with subtitles on. So frames of TNG eps show up in my feed. "The Game" was quite awhile ago and some of the frames w/subtitles taken out of context from that ep were pretty funny.

Here are a few in kinda random order:

Someone posted
"Modern Trailer for Star Trek Generations, originally released in 1994." in a Picard FB group. I'd not seen it before but it's apparently 3 years old. It's quite well done.

Finished Season Two of Star Trek: Prodigy. Such a great show. Can't believe Paramount was willing to bury it. I hope Netflix pick it up for a third season.

Of all the Comic Con announcements, the one I was looking forward to the most was Lower Decks. The SNW thing felt cringe to me, but it's an out of context clip so I'm counting on there being more than that. I was not all that impressed with the Section 31 trailer. I hope there is more to it than that, but I'm not sure what audience that is for.

- I've only watched it once but I have mixed feelings about it.

I wonder how many announcements Paramount is holding back for the huge convention not far away: https://www.creationent.com/cal/cemission_lv.html. The guest list at https://www.creationent.com/cal/cemission_lv_guests.html is huge!

For fans of the TOS ep The Doomsday Machine, I recently learned of
posted in 2013! They spoke to the writer of the ep (Norman Spinrad) and https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Eddie_Paskey (who'd been in 57 eps).

I hadn't known of some of the last minute changes like originally, it was supposed to be Curt Decker but that got changed to Matt because Curt and Kirk sounded too much alike. At 4:48, they mentioned in that script, there's supposed to be a whining sound as the ship's pulled into the machine but the sound they chose not to use the sound effect. So, the crew was reacting to the sound (per the script) that never happened.

I knew of his as Vic Fontaine: https://variety.com/2024/film/news/james-darren-gidget-moondoggie-star-trek-1236127756/ (James Darren, Teen Idol Actor in ‘Gidget,’ Singer and Director, Dies at 88).

Also, we are safe (?), from the Bell Riots, I guess: https://www.space.com/star-trek-deep-space-nine-bell-riots.

"Paramount is also serving up an appetizing entertainment sampler platter for Star Trek Day, with the premiere episodes of many "Star Trek" series and "Short Treks" available to view for free from Sept. 7-13. The episodes can be tapped into on Paramount+'s partner platforms Amazon, Apple and Roku, its official YouTube page, Pluto TV and the Paramount+ free content hub (U.S. only).

Here's the complete lineup:

"Star Trek: The Original Series," "The Cage"
"Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Encounter at Farpoint, Part I & II"
"Star Trek: Voyager," "Caretaker, Part I & II"
"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "The Emissary, Part I & II"
"Star Trek: Enterprise," "Broken Bow Part I & II"
"Star Trek: The Animated Series," "Beyond the Farthest Star"
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," "Strange New Worlds"
"Star Trek: Lower Decks," "Second Contact"
"Star Trek: Discovery," "The Vulcan Hello"
"Star Trek: Picard," "Remembrance"
"Star Trek: Short Treks" – "The Girl Who Made the Stars," "The Trouble with Edward," "Ask Not," "Runaway," and "Ephraim and Dot""

The Short Treks went with Disco and I believe those who watched Disco outside the US when it was on Netflix there didn't have access to Short Treks. They were on Paramount+.

"Sept 17 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's brain-chip startup Neuralink said on Tuesday its experimental implant aimed at restoring vision received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's "breakthrough device" designation.
The FDA's breakthrough tag is given to certain medical devices that provide treatment or diagnosis of life-threatening conditions. It is aimed at speeding up development and review of devices currently under development.

The experimental device, known as Blindsight, "will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see," Musk said, opens new tab in a post on X.
Neuralink did not immediately respond to a request seeking details about when it expects the Blindsight device to move into human trials. The FDA also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Founded in 2016 by Musk and a group of engineers, Neuralink is building a brain chip interface that can be implanted within the skull, which it says could eventually help disabled patients to move and communicate again, and also restore vision."

One step closer to Geordi's visor

I'm always well behind on trek news, but Fanhome, who seems to have taken over from Eaglemoss making new ships have shown off more about what's coming over the next 6 months. Costs a fortune and I can't say I'm interested in anything except the new Stargazer so far (though 'dat ass' kind-of makes it look like a mini-van) But I dunno, maybe someone is interested in Picard!
