To be fair, TOS had "stupid social reflections of today" and is often lauded for doing so

It is how topics are handled. The original series gets a slight pass as it was something new and yes, awkward at times with some cringe. Discovery was a not exactly subtle nor did it add value to the series and story arcs.

Good call there. I was more along the lines of the fact we are being assimilated into drones that think the same thoughts and do the same things and crush* everything that is contrary to the "hive."

Wow! I finally watched it. TOS fans would love it.

So this is being made as a test to see if they can maybe start a whole new series of TOS?

I would definitely watch it. Just as long as they don't "starwars" it.

Agreed if they don't "starwars" it and for me an addition, don't go sledgehammer woke.

Doubt it.

We already kinda have that with SNW. Ethan Peck's a pretty good Spock but their pick for the Kirk we've seen is lousy, so far. :( Chris Pine nailed it by that was the Kelvin timeline/JJ-verse. And Pine, probably too old now to do a TOS reboot.

The "765874" productions look to me to be "technology demonstrators" for advanced AI video generation and actor replacement processes.

I expect there will come a time when this technology is advanced enough and can be produced quickly enough that you could use it to create a new series or movie with the TOS actor's images, but would fans really support (or even accept) such a thing?

There are various ways to use AI that would be capable of putting shows together without the actor in person. Just for fun, here is an odd use of AI that is well...fun.

One could merely get others to play a role and then do as seen in the video above (in the near future)

answers a bunch of questions. Do NOT read until you've watched.

I have been re-watching Star Trek Enterprise, and it just does not get enough love. There are some great episodes: Shuttle Pod One, The Andorran Incident, Fusion, Cogenitor, etc.. The cast is excellent. It has become my favorite Trek series, and it seems to be rediscovered by fans in streaming.....which is great.

BTW - I think Jolene Blalock does not get enough credit for her performance. Playing a Vulcan is difficult. It is hard to play an unemotional character that people care about. I think she did a great job....especially considering she was young and transitioning from modeling to acting. Sometimes I wonder if she was discounted because of her beauty.

As with many things, nostalgia has been kind to Enterprise. It certainly has it's high moments, but it also continues to have it's low ones. And I think making Archer a "stoic hero" was a mistake when you had an actor with the charm of Scott Bakula playing the role.

The fourth season under Manny Coto was, IMO, a major increase in overall quality of the stories, but of course he got the showrunner job under the condition that this would be the final season.

Jolene Blalock is under-rated. She is a major TOS fan and looked to Spock and Sarek as models for her own performance. It is unfortunate that her treatment somewhat soured her on the franchise.

I was so happy to see her return in Star Trek: Lower Decks last week.

The "unification" works for me because its NOT made with contempt for the franchise or the audience.
To me, that's all that matters. I'd love seeing more of Kirk & Spock doing anything, so long as it respects their characters and the TOS universe they've existed in for 60 years. The need to turn heroes into anti-heroes to make them "relatable" has needlessly and irrevocably destroyed a lot of what people liked in various shows/movies. We already have 8 other failed shows that have otherwise nothing to do with Star Trek but using its brand names. More of that isn't a solution to anything.

It should still be colorful, adventurous, optimistic, and humorous, the mix worked then and would still make it unique now. But it should be written about ideas weighty & complex enough to keep the fans of those characters, now in our 40s-80s, pondering them all week til the next ep, just like what made it successful in the 60s. A TOS show featuring an aging Spock & Kirk in the mature half of their careers and lives SHOULD be over the heads of kids at this point. ...who aren't TOS watchers anyway bc they have a 3-second attention span.

But why would anyone respect the punters who whine about the content of the episodes being too challenging or upsetting for their provincial worldview? Star Trek has always reflected current trends in social progress since day 1, if you can't handle that, what did you think you were watching, phaser battles? These have to be the same people crying about just now paying attention to the lyrics of Rage Against the Machine and Pink Floyd. Ridiculous.
