Last weekend went over to San Antonio to visit my wife’s nephews. I’m really liking that town, it’s hilly and has some lovely neighborhoods. You may know there are a lot of German descendents in Texas. We ran around a downtown district called the King William District, that before WWI was called the Kaiser Wilhelm District. Funny how War changes things.

Of interest, one of the features that really impressed me were electric scooters parked all over the city for rent. They were a $1.00 to rent and something like $.20 a minute. I predict something like this with automated cars is a given for urban environments in the near future.

Last weekend went over to San Antonio...
Lived there for several years, quite a nice place.

Family and I are heading to Amsterdam with a quick one day in Paris this December. Anyone out there have any 'must see' places in or near Amsterdam?

Northern Italy is very pretty!

It was definitely one of the prettiest places I've ever been. Great for a honeymoon or celebrating a similar special occasion, but if you're looking for an 'authentic' travel experience, it's not ideal. We wanted to be somewhere gorgeous, do some light hiking, drink entirely too much wine and/or spritz, and be pampered by a hotel that's waaaay too high end for our reality back home. It checked all those boxes exceptionally well.

But for a regular vacation, I think we'd prefer to be somewhere a little more 'real', if that makes any sense. :)

We have guests visiting and are heading to Galveston, Texas this next week to hit the Schlitterbahn Water Park. It was unusual, but I ended up making a hotel reservation on the phone.

At the end of the call, the agent told me that if I listened to a Hilton resort offer, I’d get 500 points on my Hilton rewards plan, so I said sure. The deal is for 6 days, 5 nights at one of the Hilton resorts for $780, all of the resort fees are waved, plus 5000 points, and includes a car rental for the time there and 24 months to make reservations.

Normally, I’m pretty hesitant about deals like this, but it seems pretty good. Note, this is not a vacation property purchase (time share arrangement) offer, like some of the hotels push, but it does involve a 2 hr presentation about their resorts and purchase options for such things. Airfare is not included. We chose the Hilton Waikalua Resort on the big island of Hawaii. We mostly have been to Ohau (multiple trips) and one visit to Maui. We’ll probably go in the off season. Anyone familiar with Hawaii (the individual island)? Hopefully no eruptions going on. ;)

Schlitterbahn Water Park, Galveston, Texas, a bit pricey, half day rate Entrance admission, 3 kids, 2 seniors, 1 general admission ticket, $170. Three bottled waters, 2 small dipping dots (ice cream) and a bag of chips $30! Robbers!! ;) The best deal was a commemorative slushy cup with free refills for $10. I’m not a Water Park expert, but this Schlitterbahn has an amazing torrid river section of their lazy river, a succession of large waves (for a lazy river ) that propels rafters down stream.
