As things currently stand - FaceID.

I honestly like Android as an OS more than iOS and keep bouncing back and forth. (iPhone 6s Plus -> Pixel 2 -> iPhone XS Max -> Pixel 3XL -> iPhone XS Max -> Galaxy S10 -> iPhone XS Max)

In case you can't tell... I WANT to use an Android phone. I just can't find one that hardware wise fits the billing. iOS is just too restrictive for my wants/needs, but oh well. With my iPhone XS Max activated, I sit.

The S10's fingerprint scanner is a pain. Works most of the time, but when it doesn't it really gets me frustrated. It is also very slow compared to normal captive fingerprint scanners. And why oh why will Samsung not drop the damn curved displays? Accidental touches drive me crazy and it is impossible to get a screen protector on without either bubbles or dirt accumulating along the curved edge.

Please, please Apple. Let things loose a bit. Open up some API's for signal information. Let us install system wide tweaks. Widgets on the homescreens. Not being stuck into rows and rows of apps - let me move them where I want! Give us Dark mode (iOS 13?). And finally - add an Always on Display as an option.

Apple has the hardware down.. they just need to loosen some of the controls on iOS. How is the main OS layout the same as 10 years ago? :(

Have you considered the S10e? no curved screen and the side mounted finger print reader is meant to be very good on it.

Yeah. Still thinking about it too. Going to make sure I go to a store and play with one for a bit first though. I'm tired of returning/reselling phones this year. Ha.

This YouTube review is very positive about it. I'm happy with my XR but I'm tempted myself -

Yeah I had watched that. Definitely tempting. I'll probably wait a few weeks at least and see if it goes on sale.

Or who knows... Maybe when I return the regular S10 this afternoon, I'll scoop one up if they have any in stock, ha.

If you had bothered to watch the review, he's talking about the S10e, which doesn't have an in screen finger print reader but a side mounted one.

Same difference. MK rarely spends time on the device. Basically all his reviews are first impression type.

For all the temptation, just get it dude. Experience what you have been missing out! I am sure Android is a fine platform.

I wonder what the user feedback is like with the fingerprint reader right on the side versus under the display? Which one would be more accurate or reliable in that sense? Anyone have feedback on this?

Ultrasonic FPS is more secure. Optical FPS (10e and iPhone TouchID) can be faked fairly easily (see video below). I applaud Samsung using ultrasonic FPS because it is better than optical FPS........but in terms of usability and fluidity, FaceID still better. (And this is why FaceID is more secure than TouchID except in identical twin cases.)

I like the way like you always state your opinion as fact. It's better to you, ok we get it!

I mean, I agree with you - I prefer FaceID too. But that's all it is: a preference. Usability is better for me. There are no "hard facts" in this particular discussion. Different strokes for different folks.

Look at source of those reviews. Hardcore Android editors who are well versed in these things, especially when it comes to Android devices.

Usability...there isn’t much there that is better than FaceID. I can’t think of one situation that clearly favors Samsung’s biometric.

Laying on table is about the only thing.......but you have to look at it because sensor area is quite small. So that is not different than slightly leaning over to unlock with FaceID.

FaceID mainly because Ultrasonic ID, was designed for 2 reasons.

#1. To increase profits since you can’t use a tempered glass protector so more cracked screens.
#2. Many teens use their phones with cracked screens Ultrasoic ID is useless if your display is cracked.
Also Ultrasonic ID is more secure it looks for bloodflow bouncing ultrasonic soundwaves back from your fingers fluids.

From a marketing and business perspective FaceID will be everywhere.

You ever drive and have to look at your phone ...? I'd rather not take my eyes off the road for the unlocking

And you don’t have to with Samsung? Lol

A glance with FaceID is better than looking around for screen area to put your finger with Samsung.

Oh yeah, Android Police and Android Authority are all conspiring against Samsung. Add TheVerge and Android Central too I guess. Lol

Oh add CNET to the conspiracy rank too:

“The ultrasonic fingerprint reader in the other Galaxy S10 phones is supposed to be a huge advantage. It's meant to be faster, more secure and work through water and grease. But the Galaxy S10 Plus' in-screen fingerprint scanner hasn't lived up to the promise. Fingerprint recognition is hit or miss, and it takes a beat to unlock the phone. There are definitely limitations for wet and greasy fingers, and that's after two software updates. (Hopefully a future update will fix this.)”

TheVerge is NOT Apple fanboy. Lol. They rarely find anything good to say about Apple. Heck they trashed AirPods.......only a year later apologized for it after realizing it was so damn popular and best on market.
