With Technology always progressing. What form of unlocking would you now prefer?

Here’s the problem with your post, there is no such thing as ‘perfection’ with biometric security. It didn’t exist with touch ID, it didn’t exist with iris scanning with Samsung, it doesn’t exist with Face ID, and it won’t exist for any future biometric security. That’s called technology ‘as-we-know-it’, and it’s progressive where becomes more refined I’ve the course of time, but it won’t be perfected either.

Yes, Face ID is a first GEN product, but given it doesn’t always unlock successfully in every situation ideally, it still is a much stronger form of biometric security over touch ID in terms of security purposes.

Here’s the problem with your post. I didn’t say biometric security is perfect. Or could be perfect. Nothing is.

I said “maybe Apple with perfect FaceID technology” meaning that it will work quickly and more reliably than what it is now. Because it obviously hasn’t been optimized; people still report problems and misreads. And if/when they do that, there isn’t much reason to try to incorporate an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the screen. In a consumer device, anyway.

Realistically, I think it’s difficult to perfect biometric security, because there is so many differentials and variables with millions of iPhone users will never have the same experience depending of which biometric security leads the future, which right now is Face ID, but as you can see, it’s not perfect, and even has the opportunity to be duplicated if somebody has identical twin or a strong family resemblance. I still think face ID with the 3-D facial mapping is the most secure, but even after millions of dollars invested with research and development from Apple, even they can’t guarantee ‘perfection’.

Add more salt to the wound...add PCMag to the conspiracy:

"But that's the thing—you have to hit the screen at the exact right spot. Hitting it off-center results in rejected touches. There's no visual guideline to do so when the screen is off, and no physical guide (like the ridge of a physical sensor) at all. The sensor is less accurate with a wet finger, and not usable at all with a dirty or goopy finger.

The fingerprint sensing area is a small spot near the bottom of the phone. There's no physical guide to it, and you do have to press that spot precisely. An off-center touch won't work, and too quick a tap will result in a message saying, "Keep your finger on the sensor a little longer." A definite press of the pad of your finger is the best bet."

Until they work out how to make the radius bigger of where you are able to place your finger Samsung should put a visual indicator on the screen so you know where to place your finger.

They have always on screen display options because they use oled so shouldn’t be a problem.

Ultrasonic or something better than a notch.

Two things that are not mutually exclusive in your post. The notch has nothing to do with Face ID’s performance, that’s merely a cosmetic feature that Apple is using on the iPhone, [Face ID versus ultrasonic] are two things that are comparable, because they are biometric related.

If bringing back TouchID would lower the price of the entry level iPhone then I am for it. It could even be in-display or on the back or integrated into power button, as long as there is a way to access biometric authentication.
I don't use animoji or portrait effects of the front camera. For me, the front camera is mainly used for work related video conferencing so I don't see much value in fancy effects offered.. I would rather have lower entry price and be part of iOS ecosystem.
Maybe, Apple can offer one model without FaceID if they really want to appeal to more customers who are holding out on upgrading.

Thing is, Apple does offer most cost effective phones with TouchID.

The iPhone 8/Plus are still great phones.

It does on any iPhone these days, no notch, no FaceID. Screen > all when is about smartphones, and the notch is not the best cosmetic feature even for FaceID.

Tomi03, well......uhhhh....hmmmmm......how do i say this politely? Thanks for proving my point? :)

The ultrasonic feature its better than a notch, more screen is always better. Is that what are you saying?, because your sarcasm is lame

I was talking about feature request for future iPhones with the new gesture-based UI.. so that would be like XR with no FaceID, smaller notch for the front camera and TouchID either in-display or integrated into the power button or back.

You know what is lame? Pinholes to one side!! Notifications are pushed. LOL. Dumbest idea ever.

I love the result of the poll, the gap keeps getting wider and wider. :)

well, read the overwhelming negative reviews on the ultrasonic FPS...in my post on the 1st page....and you can see why the poll gap is widening! Apple did good on this one. They chose the right biometric feature.

I read the reviews you posted it about the ultrasonic fps. Brutal.
I wouldn’t pay 1000 for a phone with a crappy FPS and no 3D Face ID, that’s just sad.

Yeah no idea, somebody mentioned me but I think it was just baiting, which is against forum rules.

They aren’t going to admit it’s a failure until the note 10 or galaxy s11 comes out. Then you will hear them claim that the FPS sucks and that justifies them purchasing another galaxy. And don’t forget, come September they all get iPhones....but it’s horrible of course.

At this point It’s pretty derivative.

I don't know why didn't they just keep the FP scanner on the back. They wouldn't lose anything that way. Don't fix what ain't broken.

I remember the one with Note8, it worked nice most of the time. The placement was very weird, but with muscle memory, your finger learn where it is, and it is not much of a problem. They fixed this later on S9 and Note 9 by relocating it to more reachable position.

But, what I remember is that it worked well.

You should have seen it when the note 7 was blowing up .

Most of the regulars deleted all their posts calling it fake and that it was really iPhones that were catching fire and not the note 7. It was hilarious before they deleted everything.

Yeah someone reported me overnight and copt a warning for commenting on a battery test video, all i said was they are good when new but go down after months of use, which everyone know is true.
