Usually Apple stores have stock on the same day product arrives for home delivery. But I'd advise getting there way early.
Think they will let people in? Last time I went to apple store they only allowed people inside who had a appointment due to covid.

You’ll have to reserve online first then get a collection slot.

True. You'll have make an appointment to "shop for an iPad Pro."
Wow. I didn't know you had to make an appointment to shop. I mean, it does make sense... given that pre-COVID Apple Stores normally are packed, it's best to limit who's inside. I haven't been to an Apple Store in over two years and that was to fix a cracked iPhone.

You need to go online once the iPad's are release. Check which configuration you need then check "pick up in store". Choose your store and it'll tell you if they have availability. If they do you need to reserve it and pick a time to collect. Sometimes it's hard going. You need to check daily. It took me over a week to be able to secure my M1 MacBook Pro 1TB and 16GB RAM. You just need to keep checking as more and more become available every day.

I had the 11 inch iPad Pro 2018 64gb, never really filled that or I managed it ok by deleting unused apps and films etc. I have ordered the iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2021 128gb but now I’m kinda regretting it and want the 256gb.

I only went for the lower one because I always regret buying the higher. But now I’m regretting buying the longer.

I think no matter which one you get you always want more. I use cloud storage for mostly everything like photos and save films on there and download loads if I do travel.

I went to Mexico in 2019 and took my 64gb. I think I downloaded some films from Netflix and some tv shows on iPlayer to watch and it did ok.
I suppose 128gb is better than what I had and always have the option to use cloud storage or a usb c memory stick if needed.

Someone just tell me I made the right decision in getting 128gb and don’t make me spend more money haha! Also I bought the white MKB so I think I have spent enough. And probably will get a smart folio too, either in the green or orange. Someone help me decide which colour too!!!

128GB will be fine. Don't forget that when you do travel and go away you'll only need one or two movies (how many do you need?!) I think that every hotel in the modern world now has WiFI so you won't need the cellular iPad. With the 128GB you can always plan ahead and download what you need for when you'll need it. Hope then helps.

I suppose you are right. I only really use my iPad at home, always on WiFi and have access to to streaming films etc. If I do need to download films etc then I just have to choose a few, it’s nice to have a good choice on a long flight or when you want to chill.
Like I said, usb stick could be useful if I was desperate.

I have to disagree. I've learned from experience that it's a real drag to be counting gigabytes all the time, or worse, having to remember to carry around an additional drive for your portable device. Especially when, as in this case, it's only $100 difference to get twice as much storage.

Take it from me, the peace of mind you get (as well as the convenience) is totally worth it.

However I’m getting double the storage from my previous iPad. 64gb to 128gb.

64gb was fine, just needed to removed films etc when I watched them etc.

Well, in that case you made the right choice. At least now with 128gb you won't have to be removing stuff to make room anymore. Needing to ration what you have creates feelings of lack.

Having more than you need is MUCH better, it creates a feeling of abundance.

Just wondering what most people are ordering the new M1 iPad for? What sort of usage?

If just for regular "iPad stuff" and just want the nicer screen etc, then I understand ordering with 256 or 512gb or even less, I have been working with a 64gb 2018 model and it does just fine for that sort of casual usage. However, if you plan to take advantage of what it seems Apple obviously has planned for pro or semi-pro apps to run on it then a minimum of 1tb seems the way to go.

Anyways, just wondering, it for sure will be a damn fine tablet for watching Netflix vids.

Personally, some light sketching, some Twitter, Using chrome Remote Desktop at work to remote into my thick bulky tough book that’s connected to our plant control network For troubleshooting plc’s, YouTube video watching, and the other 50% of the time to browse macrumors lol nothing that needs an m1 chip or 16gb of ram. But I had the extra cash so why not ya know.

Just regular iPad stuff. I've wanted to get the extra storage for a long time, though, plus I've been getting more out of memory crashes on the 2017 Pro with 4GB RAM.

How long to you plan on keeping your new 12.9" for? Is this a consideration in your decision to get the 1TB Pro? I know you say the higher configuration models deprecate more so are you planning on keeping for a few years?

Yes, it's a consideration. I expect this to last me minimum 3 years. I'm sure that will be no trouble at all. Based on my current 2017 Pro, I'm guessing it can likely last me quite a bit longer (assuming I don't get upgraditis). :p

Mind, I don't like to deal with hassles of reselling and trade-in values are usually awful so I keep my iPads as long as they serve my needs. When I upgrade, I sometimes keep the old device as backup for betas and stuff, or sometimes give them away to family.

It's an all in one of sorts for myself.

I use it to draw on & write with. I also consume media on it. I'm looking forward to the new screen, as on my 2018 I have a Paperlike matte screen protector, which means you aren't appreciating the full picture. I don't plan on a screen protector like that on this one, instead going to try a magnetic screen protector to take on & off. I still have my 2018 that I am too fond of, so I may stick to drawing on that for now.

I've gone the 1TB route since they offered it, and I want the increased RAM for extra layers in art programs.

I actually have the original 12.9 iPP, because the person I wanted to give it to, passed on it to just stay on Mac exclusively. So the original 12.9 has become a portfolio display of sorts, as I don't think I can get much money for it now.

As I've said in the past, I always save up for 2 years to get the latest iPP, but last year I passed on the 2020 because I saw nothing better than the 2018. So I've saved a little more than I need for a 2021 to a new screen & M1.

Same. I passed last year since I found the 2020 model disappointing. The price of even 1TB becomes quite manageable if you just sock away a little at a time. $50/paycheck over a 2 year period comes out to $2400-2600. That's enough for either 1TB 12.9 with accessories or 2TB 12.9. Or heck, 1TB 12.9 + base Air 4/Pro 11.

I ordered the 1TB unit for one reason only: because I am a software developer, and I have had my prototype app crash on the 6GB iPad Pro 2020 due to lack of memory. Now, I understand my app can't depend on the user having 16GB of RAM, but I won't need to be at that point for a long time, for now it will speed up development to not have go worry about memory. Just sucks that to get that I had to get all that storage I'll never come close to using no matter what gets announced at WWDC.

I also considered it future-proofing, I'm not planning on replacing this new iPad Pro for a long time, if ever (I'll likely replace it with Apple's AR device whenever that hits the market).

That's how I've done it.

When I walked into the Apple store to get my ordered 2018 1TB 12.9 iPP the person asked what model I was getting, and joked "big Balla". I just deadpanned, "Nope, just a cheap @-- who saved a little each check for a new one." Other people get new phones, I get new iPad Pros every 2 years.

I went from 2015 to 2018 to 2021, saving for each in between. I plan for two years, seem to go for 3 years, and then don't get rid of the previous one. The 2015 one I still have no issues with.

When you factor in the iPP, Apple Care, a case & tax, it comes out to just about the as much as saving over 2 years. With an extra year of savings, I've thought about if a "real" iMac comes out in the fall, otherwise ready for a new iPP in 2023 sooner than usual.

Yeah, iPad's my priority as well. Only upgraded the iPhone from the 7 to the SE2 last year. Considering PWM gives me migraines, I expect to use the SE2 for a long while.

I used to upgrade iPads every year (~$1200 annual budget) but with the price jump in 2018, I'm stretching it to every 1.5-2 years (alternating between 10-11" and 13").

Thankfully, I'm quite content with my Windows PCs so no need to spend $$$$ on Macs. :) I've tried it with the M1 MBA but as much as I liked the hardware, MacOS is not for me.

I’ve made peace with my decision to wait for the M3 16GB 1TB variant next year. Why because at WWDC Apple will show the XDR M1 iPad Pro running BigSur. And by next year the M2 chips will be old news for A May 2022 iPad Pro release.
My advice is to wait later because the next version will be even better. Just keep repeating this step every year
