I’d be willing to bet that apps supporting said larger memory models and M1 (and future) CPU’s will have corresponding increased subscription requirements - higher than current charges. Possibly significatly higher.
Agree those APP will cost not free for example the LiDAR camera some charge monthly fees,

I decided to buy a 1 TB version and will return my 256GB version after reading some reviews. Rationale:

1) Seems like watching HDR movies on this will be incredible - I will probably end up downloading and keeping more HDR content, so 256GB may be low

2) I intend on keeping this thing for five years. With the M1 chip and 16GB RAM, and with the hardware where it is today with slim bezels, I don’t see any changes that would really require an upgrade for a long time. The only hardware change I would really spring For would be a second camera for video calls in landscape mode, and who knows if they ever do that. For a five year hold, I may as well get the extra storage

An. Probably should have gotten 1tb but they are gone now and I am picking up my 512. Have had my 2018 iPad and its at 250gb so 512 should be more than adequate. And I have no need for the 16 gig ram. So I guess I made the right choice but it ain’t future proof. Then again, nothing is.

How easy is it to put all your iTunes movies onto a portable hard drive? I’m thinking of getting the Samsung T7 1TB but have never had one before so don’t know?

I am waiting to see what, if anything, is announced next month to see if the 16 GB could be utilized or not. That will drive which model I pick up.

Purchased from or redeemed on iTunes store? As far as I know, it's not possible. Just one of the hassles of DRM.

Mind, the only way to do this would be to download the iTunes movie on PC or Mac and copy to portable drive and even then, I don't believe they'll play on the iPad.

The iPad won't let you copy direct-downloaded iTunes videos to external storage.

Still crickets on Amazon but I was able to order a 12.9 1TB Cellular at 5AM on Apple for in-store pickup after work (4 more hours ???). SG instead of Silver though.

Note, DRM-free videos playback just fine from external storage.

I played a 1:1 4K UHD Blu-ray MKV rip of Avengers: Endgame on my iPad Air 4 with Infuse Pro app and it worked great. Granted, iPadOS corrupted the exFAT partition on the external drive but I expect it'll be fine if you reformat your drive to APFS.

128GB will be fine. Don't forget that when you do travel and go away you'll only need one or two movies (how many do you need?!) I think that every hotel in the modern world now has WiFI so you won't need the cellular iPad. With the 128GB you can always plan ahead and download what you need for when you'll need it. Hope then helps.
This is always subjective ... I have a 512gb iPad and just placed an order for the 1TB 11". I often go on long drive. with the family (12-15 hour drives) and kids will watch a bunch of them, plus you never really know what your in the mood for. Also I do a lot of international travel, and honestly their movie selection is pretty terrible with the exception of the few newer releases, and the screen is terrible at that .... I do agree however, that for most people 128 works, its what I buy my kids and parents for their use ...

The only reason to go to the 1TB is the extra RAM 16 ver, 8

That is quite the pricey undertaking in foreign countries especially for streaming over mobile data.
I 2019 i took a trip from the USA to slovakia verizon charge me $10 per day for use my iPhone as i use it in the USA ,in any case as I understand the 5G that come with the USA IPAD pro will not have the same 5G as the international one
