My Dad, swears by windows, yet the most common words out of his mouth computer related are "I hate computers".
To be fair, he knows what he's doing, working with computers since the days of punch card programming, sys admin with his own companies, and he messes around with linux sometimes, trouble is, OS X and linux don't have decent business accounting and payroll software, and without that he wont think about switching. Fair enough. He does seem to be starting to appriciate them a bit more, but I doubt he'll ever switch.
My minions at work like to wind me up about macs a lot. They are pretty hardcore gamers so windows is their platform of choice. I've heard all sorts of crap about macs from them, "macs are really good, if all you do is blog". COnsidering they are very computer savvy, and we work in an IT enironment I've had things like, "that USB key wont work", windows to mac.
Although since showing them my macbook they have both admitted quietly to me about "thinking about buying a MBP" :)

I've heard "Doesn't Microsoft make the iPod?" recently, when will people learn?

I also guessed that Apple would put the GeForce 8 series cards in the MacBook Pro, and a Microsoft fan said that it wouldn't happen for 3 years.

I've heard "Doesn't Microsoft make the iPod?" recently, when will people learn?

That's up there with "Doesn't Microsoft own Apple?" Alas,,, And if you flip an iPod over, and show them the logo and other information, you'll probably get the classic, "Well, that doesn't prove anything!" response.

You could fire back with "windows is great, if all you do is play games". I've used that one, and it really causes them to get their shorts in a knot.

the worst are the techs in the it dept

they hate macs with a passion...,

I'm sure they do. Ditto where I am, except for the certified apple tech. You must remember that their jobs and livelihoods depend on all the support that windows requires.

Does your place have "totally managed desktops"? This is actually a euphemism for "It's totally locked down, we don't trust you". IT types love the totally managed desktop model, it keeps them busy, and in BMW's, for years. IT management types love to say that "the totally managed desktop is for the convenience of our employees". Uh-huh. Of course, everyone likes job security.

And 'round and 'round we go,,,

about those IT people:

(I don't know who said that, btw)

please dont brand ALL IT people as "mac haters"

for 2 1/2 years I worked in ITS for an educational institute with a Novell network and Windows desktops. while a lot of techos might be "mac haters" don't brand everyone that way. i'm constantly suprised by how many ppl @ my current work are mac people at home (work is all ms/dell environment, with java developers for business web apps)

For the majority of our users, Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 (or higher) or Firefox version 2 (or higher) is required on your Windows® based PC and any pop up blockers must be turned off. Apple OS X® users can also use the new Web mail platform with the Firefox Web browser.

From my ISP. Yep, they don't just p*ss me off with their slow internet service and high prices, they also think I use "Apple OS X".

Some people seem to be really bothered when they see me using a mac. I've heard things like: "Why do you use Macs? They are so different." I rarely validate those types of statements with a response, usually just a simple laugh or smirk.

I find what PC user's say about Windows to be funnier, because I often find myself knowing more about their stuff than they do. The other day I overheard an older customer at Best Buy ask the person who was selling her an overpowered computer(for her needs) "What's the difference between the different versions of Vista?"

The sales person didn't know, she had to ask another salesman. And then they ended up getting her to upgrade all the way to ultimate because, as the salesman conjectured, sometimes you do documents so you need business, but if you also look at photos you should get home premium, and you should just get Ultimate in case you start doing online gaming.(The customer was probably 65 and was totally sold on the logic, even though she said she probably wouldn't game, she wanted to be safe).

generally i find pc users to have no idea about anything. but mac users tend to be more down to earth and friendly, and able to understand things easier, and make friends easier. a lot of windows users hu say that "macs cant play games" are often the the idiots that are completely stereotypical windoze users. i hate them they get on my nerves so much.

us mac guys have to stick together!!! FIGHT THIS!!!!!

just remember: a switcher a day helps to keep the enemy away

me: "But still, Mac's are better quality and run Mac OS X"
him: "But you can run Mac OS X on a Dell too."
me: "No, they don't... Where'd you hear that?"
him: "I dunno I just know you can."

Ah man, that's just classic. There is nothing for frustrating that people using straight up wrong information to make points.

I always get the same couple bitchy comments from PCers: Macs can't play any games, macs can't open and use office documents, macs can't connect with PCs (and all their friends have PCs!), and macs cost to much.

The thing that gets me the most though is when Mac people complain when I send them a word document. C'mon guys... It's called OpenOffice and it's free.

This story is about stupid questions in general, although the young lady in question was a pc user, she was in fact trying to send a fax.

So my friend Jenny (Godmother to my eldest!) was on her first day at a new publishing company and one of the first tasks given to her was to go and send a fax. Easy enough. However 20 minutes later when Jenny still hadn't returned, her slightly worried boss set off to find her. There she was by the fax machine as expected. With a confused look on her face Jen looks at her boss and says "Sorry this is taking so long, I think the fax machine is broken. I keep putting the sheet of paper in the top but it keeps just coming back out the bottom."

She actually thought that fax machines somehow teleported the physical paper down the phone lines...

BWAHAHAHAHAH! ROTFL!

Recent story:

Just the other day, I was drinking a beer at a local bar with my GF when suddently I hear from the back one guy saying: "Macs are for faggots"...

Jesus, I almost grabbed the bottle, broke it, and stab the little biggot in the forehead...

For one reason, I HATE PREJUDICE. And especially didn't like the way he said the "F" word.

However, instead of stooping down to his level, I approached him and asked:

"What so wrong about Macs that makes you feel that hate?", he goes: "Hmm, I don't know, it's just that, if there's already Windows, why do people need to use other things? just to be different?".

WTF??

Whoa, that means that... if the black t-shirt came first, you better not be wearing yellow or that makes you a "*insert racist/xenophobic/homophobic term here*"...
Why is the human being so advanced and so DUMB at the same time???

If you can't guess, when he answered me I made my "you're so ignorant" facial expression and got out laughing.

Me: (After knocking up a quick animated DVD presentation in iMovie based on a club flyer in front of an Events Managed I'd designed to be splashed across some plasma screens at a venue) Will this do?
Events guy: Wow, that's amazing, how did you do that?
Me: So it's a mix of junky house, old skool and rare groove then? do your DJs use laptops, vinyl or CDs mostly?
Events guy: ...bit of everything
Me: (after spending about 20 minutes grabbing an old funk mp3 from itunes, making a bass loop in recycle then added some house beats and organ in Logic Express) Check this out, it's cool...
Events guy: *****, that's incredible, you should 'put that out'. Is that really expensive that laptop?
Me: No it's just a 5 year old half-knackered iBook.
Event guy: (here's the dumb bit) So are Macs, like, better?

That sounds about right for Best Buy, or any of the Big-Box outfits. Low-wage, high-turnover, minimal training. You know the drill. The standard model for the way they do business. However, I understand that even veteran Windows users are confused by all the different flavors of Vista. And you can only do a "Clean install" with the five hundred dollar "Vista Ultimate"? Yikes.

The fact that there are consumer ISP's out there, who still treat Mac users as second-class, is highly disturbing.

I used to work part-time at an Apple Reseller here in Malaysia during my summer breaks. You can't believe the kinds of things people ask

Customer: So, what can you do with this... this.... Mac? *while jabbing repeatedly at the iMac flyers*
Me: *Shows him the iLife suite, along with MS Office*
Customer: Oh, so it's like a computer is it?
Me: *Counts to 10, takes deep breath, puts on a smile* Yes sir, it is a computer:D

Oh and most common misconception
*Macs are ONLY good for graphics*

I've left the computer profession after sixteen professional years in it (and four years before that while I was still in high school). And on the list of reasons why was having to support moronic, non-self-sufficient, common-sense-lacking asshat non-enthusiasts. Now, this particular "line item" is a straw on the back of a camel, mind you, but it just added to the stress and burn-out.

I used to be nice (or, at least, diplomatic) about it, but these days when I'm out and about with my 15" PB G4 and someone tries to share with me (read: justify) their belief in the superiority of Windows, I basically tell them I really don't care to waste my time on their opinion, and frankly to go f*** themself.

It tends to end the conversation post-haste.

Show him the GMA 950 in the mini. :D

Kidding, it's not really bad, but trying to use Flight Simulator X (Seriously, am i the only one who sees this as a rip off of OS X?) on it is a nightmare.

Alright i went and did some onsite service for a really winner this weekend.

#1
Them: If we get a new monitor won't the it make everything go much faster
Me: No, not at all. The monitor is just like a TV. The box on the floor is what controls how fast your computer is.

#2
Them: Is that a Mac? (pointing to my MacBook)
Me: yes it is
Them: Aren't Macs slow?
Me: No, they are actually very fast now now a days.

#3 After fixing the router and wireless
Them: So why did it break?
Me: I have no idea.
Them: You don't?
Me: Nope, i wasn't here when it broke and it could of been a thousand things, but its working now.

#4 This is as i am finishing up the job (1 hour)
Them: Let me get you some money
Me: Do you want an invoice?
Them: O, why, how much is it?
Me: $50
Them: OMG thats so much money.
Me: Its y standard hourly rate
Them: O you do this as a business?
Me: Yes?
Them: could you take $30, you only charged me 25 last time
Me: Last time I was only here for 30 minutes, so this time it will cost $50
Them: How about $40
Me: Well i can charge you 40 but you can never call me here again
Them: Its just that i had no idea it would be so expensive
Me: Feel free to call best buy, circuit city and see if you can get a better deal.
Them: Here's $40
Me: Thank you and goodbye

That was after them telling me abotu their trip to Italy and how her son is getting an iPhone for his birthday. I hate them.

I'd handle things differently but then again i don't fix computers for a living.

Two things to say, tell them the going rate for an hours work at best buy. That usually gets me my money...

If that doesn't work then just say to them, it's $50 or if you want i'll put it back in the state it was in and you can call best buy or circuit city to fix it for you.

Then again, i'm a man of principle (and stubborn) so i'd just return it back to it's broken state and bid them adieu without taking any money for that.

"You can't run Office!" - multiple sources
"You can't play games!" - multiple sources
"You can't upgrade them." - multiple sources, including IT guys
