Yes, many Dell monitors have this limitation.
I bet if you get a DVI to HDMI converter (not displayport) it will work.
No, DVI will not carry audio. Looks to be a common problem with this monitor and Macs, although this person claims it works with the adapter I suggested. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6885696
Yeah, thinking about it some more, that monitor of yours uses a dual-link DVI connector, and converting from HDMI to dual-link DVI is not really possible, so far as I'm aware. You may need to wait for a displayport option. This is another potential project, although I'm wary of hardware from kickstarter...

Really don't know whether it supports it or not. Really strange. I'm not sure but it sounds like it may be OSX that's restricting it?Well, the specific chip that Apple is using in that adapter supports higher resolution over HDMI than Displayport is capable of at the moment for this implementation. You are just in a bit of an edge case where for whatever reason, the HDMI port on your particular monitor is not compatible.
I use the Satechi Travel Router:Does anyone know if there is a global power supply in development somewhere?
Similar to these, but no option to put a plug in it, only a USB-C port and a couple of USB ports.
The one I have on order is 1 metre. That company may have others. When I receive mine I will post here on whether it works with the rMB.I'm looking for a short (less than a foot, preferably about 4" USB - C to USB - A cable. Any suggestions?
Thanks! The one I have on order is 1 metre. That company may have others. When I receive mine I will post here on whether it works with the rMB.
I can confirm that neither the U2711 or the U2713 support >1080p on HDMI. I have the latter at work and it is quite a bummer. Newer monitors, such as the U2515H, have HDMI 1.4, which supports 4k@30Hz and 1440p@60Hz.I never thought of that. The monitor I have is a dell U2711 monitor, I know it supports the higher resolutions through displayport, not sure about HDMI. You can't do HDMI to displayport using the apple adapter as it's not supported. I have tried it, and Applecare confirmed it with me.
Monitors, ports and display standards are a real pain at times.
Yeah it's really dumb. I really want the OWC hub but because it only supports HDMI it's a no go with my monitor. I've ordered the hub+ as it has Mini DisplayPort and it will do for now.I can confirm that neither the U2711 or the U2713 support >1080p on HDMI. I have the latter at work and it is quite a bummer. anyone tried this one?
It says usb c charging port so this probably means no data transfer and you have to connect the short cable to the rMB.
I'd liked the option to use it the other way around as well.
Cheap Chinese junk. Just read the latest Amazon reviews on this thing. I will pass.
http://www.amazon.com/IVSO-2-Ports-...l_formats&filterByStar=all_stars&pageNumber=1
No, those reviews are for the other models in that listing. No one has gotten this 'exact' version yet. Mine is set to arrive today (I bought this first day it was released in China (actually a pre-order) sent via ePacket, so i'm one of the first to get one. That's why I say those Amazon reviews are for an older model (read carefully those Amazon reviews).
Having said ALL that, it probably doesn't work, or works poorly LOL. Not very optimistic given the track records.
Anyway, these are rather expensive now, and i'm thinking there's some indication that they could have improved something. I'll know in a few hours and report back.
Interested to hear. I have my doubts as well but you'll never know before you know you know.
Nice if you could try it both ways to see if the usb c port is for both charging and data transfer. Then I'm in.
They would probably tout USB-C port data+charge but they only say charge.
I think this at best, is a first (decent) step (assuming it works, which it probably doesn't LOL) towards a complete solution.
Lets just get it to charge first right? If it does that i'll not (get real mad).
(actually, this thing is now in my mail box, apparently. Now all I need to do is get up enough strength to (stand up and walk a few inches )
UPDATE:
$30US out the window? Yes. Junk. It 'seems' to at least work for some things as a USB adapter, but it's charging is horrible: on and off- constantly. There's other problems also.
This standard is anything but standard.

So in other words exactly what was stated by the Amazon reviewers I linked to above..
Oh and by the way - these issues have nothing to do with USB-C standard itself, but rather its poor implementation and probably low-quality components used in this $30 hub. Apple Digital A/V USB-C adapter has been criticized for costing $79 dollars, but the thing "just works". That's why I bought 2 of them, and staying away from this cheap Chinese junk.
When more reputable companies (Belkin, OWC, etc) release their USB-C docks - I may have to take another look.
The snail mail took a while! I just received the USB-C to USB-A cable. I have plugged the rMB into my Satechi Travel Router which seems to be rated for 2A and the rMB is staying fully charged while I play a movie. So it looks like I now have several choices for cables and non-Apple chargers. The one I have on order is 1 metre. That company may have others.
