Yeap thats what i do on most videos.... but sometimes i need to use handbrake to convert that takes ages on some mkvs....

I've completely quit converting by using Air Video HD. Install the helper program on your Mac, use an iOS device as the remote, and it handles any file type and streams it perfectly to the ATV on the fly.

The little USB-C adapter project has came a long way and it has turned into a crowdfunding project.

We understand that many of you are not too keen on KickStarter projects due to the uncertainties.
That's why GoHub was launched with a FULLY Functional Prototype (with testing video)

Surely you realize that a working prototype and a video is no guarantee of a successful manufacturing and product launch..
Just take out a business loan for $25K, and take people's money when you have an actual product to sell..

Are there any usb-c Y cables? Will the Owc dock allow Mini DisplayPort?

Well the OWC hub promised for Nov 20 has now a Feb 2016 date. I seriously doubt this will ever materialize.

I guess it's beyond anyones ability to make these. Oh well, at least there's the Apple one, which works very well.

Be nice to have a least 1 other decent option :D

I desperately want a doc, but now willing to spend $119AU on the **** looking Apple one.

I was sick of waiting and I bought the Apple one, and works perfect for me. Maybe with one more USB port would be perfect

Why have none come out yet? Could it be the chips are to hard to make, or is USB-c not as versatile as advertised? Seems strange. Maybe it's lack of computers that support it.

Has anyone found a reliable hub yet? All I really need is two USB3 inputs and a USB-C to charge at the same time. The one I ordered can't just ejects drives when power and 2 USB3s are plugged in.

I guess the OWC one is going to be reliable but that thing is huge and I only need this while travelling so would like a smaller simple 2-3 USB 3 and power throughput. I need to attach a CF memory card reader and a portable Seagate 2TB HD while power is supplied via USB -C. This is for photography on the road.

Anyone have something like this that actually works??

Thanks

How about the Apple adapter plus this?

Edit: I guess that is just USB 2.0. There must be something similar that is 3.0 though!
Edit 2: Not easily it appears. I carry the Anker usb 3.0 hub with Ethernet adapter. It's small but not tiny. Fine for me because when I actually need to use it I'm not on the go as I'd generally set up my workspace for a few hours at least. Still, the fact that there are NO tiny usb 3.0 hubs probably is an indicator of why there are no usb-c hubs with multiple 3.0 ports, plus power, let alone plus video, etc.

For transferring between a HDD and Compact Flash, I'd think USB 2 should be more than sufficient. I don't think the usb bus is going to be the bottleneck.

Likely the market is too small. So far there is one Mac with USB-C, and it is even by design not meant to be a cable clutter.

I have a system that works for my needs but may not match your requirements...

I use my MacBook (1.3Ghz and 512SSD) during travel for Lightroom processing. Specifically, I wanted to be able to import from my CF cards (and SD as needed) and make a backup at the same time. This workflow exists in Lightroom as an automatic function where it will import into the local drive while simultaneously making a copy to another directory or drive. I use a Lexar Pro USB 3.0 Dual Slot Reader, a StarTech SATA to USB 3.0 adapter, a Samsung 512GB SSD, an Anker Ultra Slim 4 port USB 3.0 hub, and a cheap USB-C to USB-A converter (less than $10USD on Amazon, Ebay, etc.).

Yes, it is a bit of a rat's nest, but it all works just using the power from the USB-C port of the Macbook. I've tried 2 hubs this way and the results are the same:

Macbook at 100% charge at start of process
Import 1431 raw files from Nikon D810 (about 60GB on the Lexar 64GB 1333x Compactflash card)
Average read speed is about 80MB/s
Average write speed to external Samsung SSD is about 230MB/s
Total time is about 15 minutes
MacBook at 92% charge at end of process

I then eject everything and plug in the Macbook to its charger. I have also used the Apple USB-C AV Multipart Adapter instead of the cheap USB-C to USB-A converter. Same results but the laptop maintains its charge since it can be plugged in. It's just more of a rat's nest then...

I'm looking for exactly the same thing, for exactly the same purpose. I haven't found anything yet. Anyone else has nay ides?

There isn't anything. Closest you are going to get is the Apple adapter and a stand-alone usb hub.

Seems this is the way to go...wish I hadn't spent the money on the simple Apple adaptor as now I need the more complicated one and a USB3 hub....uggghhh

And now I can't even find that multi-port adaptor on the Apple site....I think my local store has some but why has it been removed? Even the simple one isn't listed in the accessories section and only can find it by buying a Macbook....??

Amazing!!!!

I'm still testing this out, but I may have found the best Macbook doc available at this time - and it's from Microsoft!

Here it is...

It's $99 from the MS store, so I bought one. It comes with a power supply and USB-C cable. It has three USB 2.0 ports (with they were 3.0), an HDMI port, and a Display Port. Don't know what version of HDMI or DP it supports?

Anyhow, I just plugged my 12" rMB into it, and it;s flawlessly driving a HD display, via the HDMI port. Now to scramble and see if I have a Displayport adapter sitting around, to see if it will drive my 2560 displays. also wondering whether it will support two displays?

It does appear to be charging, via the USC-C power adapter, though I'm not sure of the charging rate or voltage? More testing to be done, but this is a nice start.

Wow, I had ben hoping this would work! I have been waiting for them to be released in the UK so I can pick one up.
I am also hoping it can drive 2 displays so please let us know how you get on.

What wattage is the PSU they supply with it? I imagine it will be at least 30w as it has to charge the phone and drive 3 USB ports

I'll need to do some digging to see if I can find a full-sized DisplayPort adapter, in order to test two displays. I'm also curious as to whether it will support 2560x1440, and not just HD? Sadly, most of the cables I have around here are mini-D, so that has to wait.

Regarding the charging capabilities, it's pretty weak. looks like we're dealing with 5vx3A, so about half the wattage of the Apple charger. Having said that, it's looks like enough juice to keep things topped off, or provide a slow charge. While tempted, I'm going to do a bit more research before trying to plug my Apple charger into the dock... ???

Now, here's the really weird thing - while this dock appears to work with the rMB, it does not like my new XPS-13? I get a blue light, when plugging in my rMB, but a red light with my XPS. The display doesn't work, and it doesn't appear to be charging? perhaps MS did something to intentionally limit their doc, on Windows platforms? Strange??? This isn't a deal-breaker for us, as we have two rMBs in the house. also, this little critter makes a great travel device... very small and light. But it sure would be nice if it worked with both the rMB and the XPS.
